[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Quick question. I guess it is okay to make a nandroid backup of my current stock rom after i get sprecovery flashed. I was just curious about something going wrong with installing the update.zip to gain root?

Also, a while back i think i gained root with universal androot and the su icon appeared but doesn't work b/c i did an ota. What happens to the icon after i reroot? Do I need to uninstall su?

Tried 7zip, I now have a sbf file but when 7zip gets done it says that the file is broken and I did try downloading the file again.

You don't need to extract anything FROM the SBF.

You can, but it's pointless to do so.

You'll replace it with the new version.

Alright, thanks to everyone for instructions. Went w/o a hitch. Pretty nervous, scared something would not work. Installed on mac running parallels with xp running. I actually hit up on the dpad early not wanting to miss it, releasing it and then seeing it "boot" and hitting dpad up again, but still worked. Tried dropcap and yes i have permission. Thanks again...

Once you have rooted?

Have you tried reapplying the "root" update.zip?

Ok, so I've rooted and used your referral sign up for drop box and installed it on my phone. So how do I get the free memory???

Can't get permission. I have droid 1. Keeps saying sysem/bin/su

Please more info. And if it REALLY is saying sysem/bin/su there is something wrong. What you have given is a portion of an error message at best; it would contain /system/bin/su.

:rofl3:
Shameless beg: <snip> I run the Dropbox client on my main PC, and then also run the free Dropbox app on my Droid. That way everything I stick in my Dropbox folder on my PC is automagically available on my Droid, and I can also sync files from my Droid back the other way as well. If you have Dropbox questions, shoot me a PM. <snip>

Dropbox doesn't give you more memory, it gives you online storage, like a hard drive.

I followed this guide to the letter, and everything appeared to be going fine, all the screens matched up to the guide etc. However, I still don't have root. When I try to run SetCPU, it still isn't able to ask for permission.

Anyone have any idea why the procedure would complete correctly and yet not work?

And what does it say when u try to install the update.zip?

I went back in and tried to install the update.zip (deprecated) and it said the following:

-- Install from sd card...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:update.zip install blocked
Installation aborted.

And the the progress bar slowly moved to about 1/4 and seems to have stopped there.

*Edit: Oops, I forgot to first select "allow update.zip" before the install. After I allowed it, it installed as normal, saw the message from MotoCache saying to enjoy root. Rebooted phone. Still can't use SetCPU, still no root. :(
