[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Please anyone out there, could you tell me where I can get a download such as Easy Root to root my brand new droid x running 2.2? It seems I have to root to recover my apps on my old sdcard using titanium? Please help and thank you furbearingmammal for your help..dick (tilly01)

With the new 2.2 update the only way I'm aware of to root your X is the Droid 2 way.

hello
i know this will sound like a noob question but when i hook my phone ot my computer i dont see the root folder? do i make a new folder and name it "root" ?
i have astro on my phone and it has a root folder in it. so i put the update.zip file on my phone and i tried moving it with copy and paste into the root folder in astro but i cant paste it in the folder??
any help would be appreciated and if not then maybe this is beyond me?

bob

There is no root folder. The root of the SD card in Astro is: Open Astro> sdcard. That's the root of your SD card. From a PC it's the first thing you see when you mount the SD card and open it. Making a root folder only puts whatever files you place there out of reach of SPRecovery.

:welcome: to the forum!

When you open astro you see /sdcard on top. That is the "root" of your sdcard. Also when hooked up to your computer it is the drive that comes up. You will see a lot of folders, but you just want to put it into [driveletter:]\update.zip. hope that helps.

P.S. FBM beat me again.

thanks guys. i got it done and im rooted. im happy to see it didnt wipe my setting or contacts although i used back up pro just in case. i would like to thank moto for this awesome right up that allowed a noob such as myself to do this. once i figured it out it was actualy very easy. it only took like ten min. the second time around. the first time i didnt catch the reboot. now i need to read up and learn about adding kernels
and themes and all that other cool stuff that comes with being rooted.

i need help on rooting mine!!
i always get the "installation aborted" MSG..
i already ensured that the file was not called ".zip.zip".
thanks:)

yea droid1.
this is what shows..
-- install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E:Cant mount/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E:Cant mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.

im running windows xp and it shows file extensions.

From the Frequently Encountered Issues in the OP.

9. The SBF install goes fine, but when I go to apply the update.zip file in SPRecovery I get an error that it can't mount /sdcard (I can't reproduce -- need exact error message).

  1. In SPRecovery, go into "mount options" from the main menu.
  2. Ensure you see "Mount /sdcard". If you see "Umount /sdcard", your SD card is mounted -- choose "Umount /sdcard" to unmount it.
  3. Ensure you see "Enable USB Mass Storage". If you see "Disable USB Mass Storage" your mass storage is enabled, choose "Disable USB Mass Storage" to disable it.
Then try to install the update.zip again.

See if that works.

im still getting the aborted thingy..
i go to mount options and this is what shows..
Mount /system
Mount /data
Unmount /cache
Mount /sdcard
Enable USB Mass Storage
now what do i do?
which ones do i click on?

when i go to mount options it already shows
Mount /sdcard
Enable USB Mass Storage..

the only one that say "unmount" is the Unmount /cache.

i am having the same problem i am thinking.....i am getting the error message also...i have no hidden file extensions as i went in and fixed that in my computer...i know for a fact is says to the exact like it should "update.zip" it still says unable to mount sd card and a few other things which i think someone already just mentioned..what to do, what to do
