I got it worked out. I got the update.zip installed but I had to reflash SPRecovery which allowed me to be able to reboot into recovery again

I ran into trouble with my USB port on my older Laptop, but when I rocked it out on my Home system it went flawlessly.
Very comprehensive indeed.

Yeah, don't ask people that question; there are enough threads dedicated to the subject that we don't need to have this one get taken over by the discussion. However, to answer your question, the best custom ROM is the one you like best.

Not really a cop-out answer as for every fifteen people who answer the question you'll get twelve different answers. Some phones don't like some ROMs and some people don't like other ROMs for various reasons. So go dig, experiment, and have fun.
