[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Let's make absolutely sure you're in SPRecovery. Does it say patched by sir psycosis at the top?

If so, try downloading the file again, enabling USB mass storage, and copying it to the root of the SD card and trying to install it again. You'll have to disable USB mass storage, but if at this point you STILL can't get it to install we'll have to try something.

Finally got it!

Decided i was too frustrated last night to continue trying...got up this am, read your message and re-did everything and it worked!

I know now what i was getting wrong...[i think]...after RSD did what is does, i was disconnecting the USB. This time, i didn't and when i got to the gold droid guy, everything installed just fine. Didn't get the 'blocked-aborted message.'

:) Thank you so much...your patience kept me going.

Now I am off to see what my phone can really do.

Happy to help! My signature has a link that can get you started. And cookies. Now that you're rooted I can officially welcome you to the Dark Side -- and it's true. We do have cookies. :D

Back on topic -- anyone having issues, feel free to post! We'll try to get you rooted ASAP. :)

So this works on the 2.2.1 Update? By brother has the Original Droid and has never Rooted it. I used this method when I rooted mine and it worked but that was a lot of updates ago.

IDK I have 2.2 FRG22D.

I haven't updated to the 2.2.1 yet. :icon_eek:

So what are you asking?

The first error you gave is an sdcard problem. Just reseat the card.

The second one is a RSDLite issue. It looks like it isn't recognizing your device. Try a different USB port. Do you have the correct drivers?

i have a 64 bit driver.(just found out) and i was trying to use the 32bit. maybe that was the problem? anyways what will resetting my sd card do to my internal storage? my apps and so on

Two questions. 1) are you allowing the update before you installing the update? 2) have you tried downloading the file again to make sure it's not corrupted?

i just reinstalled everything it asked me to, only now i used 64bit drivers, now instead of that other message its giving me this

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
installment aborted.

it would give me a little loading progress but wouldnt do anything after a second of attempting it

also i checked out the FAQ this issue falls under and i changed it from update.zip.zip to update.zip
was i supposed to put that on my phone via drag&drop or through the bootloader

rooted. thanks everyone for your help.

I think it may be failing for 32gig sdcards. I placed the update.zip on my old 16gig sdcard and it worked like a champ! Thanks guys!

Nice! dancedroid

First post. I can't say that I am a total noob, but this is definitely my first foray into doing anything with my phone that it was not able to do when I got it. I mainly wanted to use it as a wireless tether while on business travel.

I have to say that this post is the most well written on the subject that I have seen. Props to MotoCache for a great writeup and easy to follow. Matter of fact, I am using my desktop tethered to my Droid to post this as a first run.

Good stuff.

Im also getting:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.

--MOUNT OPTIONS--
Mount /system
Mount /data
Unmount /cache
Mount /sdcard
Enable USB Mass Storage
-------------------------

Well reading the op, I went to mount/sdcard, but keep having the same problem. I go back to the mount options screen and it automatic changes itself back to mount/sdcard from unmount. Any way to keep it from undoing what i did. I have redownloaded, reflash, and keep having the same trouble.
