rubiX Focused 1.6

Does the orginal file manager not work with 1.6? I've read through this thread but didn't see anything on it. I've tried installing the apk I had filemanager.apk (2.2). When I try and install it just tells me application not installed. I've also try placing it directly into system/app with no luck. I liked that app because of the smb support.

If you put it in /system/app, make sure you set the permissions the same as the other files in that dir, and it might work (??)

Sorry for the noob question, but I've gotta ask since I haven't seen it mentioned here.

While I'm on Rubix Focused 1.6, and lets say moto releases an update. Not just a bug fix release, like an android 2.3 release.

The ota update won't work?

I'll have to nandroid or sbf back to stock to receive the update?

Since bootloader is locked, there's no chance of getting the new kernel via a custom rom like Rubix?

Am I correct in this?

Thanks!

Drod, Great work, keep it up.

Nah, good questions!
--If there were fixes made available from Moto/VZW that were compelling enough to actually go back to stock, you will need to .sbf back.. unless you nandroid, and I believe unroot (?).. easier just to .sbf

--Bootloader, correct. Currently, not happening. Only kernel updates coming for the DroidX will be from Moto/VZW. **growl**. :S
I know there are some that say they're working on it.. but I believe what they're attempting, is to hijack the bootscripts, to load a kernel in another location... Not happening anytime soon.. and probably would suffer from other issues along with it.. only time (lots of it) will tell.

Regarding OTA.. Rumors are that there may be one coming with fixes for OTA2.2 stuff as early as this month (yay for rumors.. bleh). If you're going to run a ROM, there's likely no point in rushing to update, and then reload to a ROM anyway... but at the very least, I'd wait until it's confirmed that the new update can be rooted, etc. before updating...
Personally, I'd rather stay on an older version that's open.. than a new version that's restricted to only moto/vzw (and BLUR! :( ....

HTH!

Sephtin, Yeah, that helped a lot. Confirmed all my suspicions. Thanks

Text size

I love focused. Is there any way to include The option to make text size larger Like in the stock version?

there is an option to make text larger or smaller, which ever youd like

How? Spare Parts? It doesn't stick.

spare parts yupp, as far as it not sticking i dunno...

maybe sephtin can shed some light when he comes around

Well, can give it a shot.. ;)

I personally have not tried changing fonts in Focused... but from someone that has, and reported back:

Would love to hear confirmation if this works (or not). ;)

It might have something to do with Spare Parts being packaged with the ROM rather than a standalone app, similar to how ADW is. I installed the market version of ADW and removed the packaged version, so I guess I can do the same with Spare Parts and perhaps that will make it stick. No changes I make to Spare Parts stick at all as is.

I've tried that, no luck... I wish Root Explorer could connect to smb.

Contemplating...

Is there a compelling reason to upgrade from Focused 1.0? I ask because I just got my Focused1.0 with Blur Camera, Incognito and OC/UV values working just right. I had trouble flashing the camera and theme over Focused1.0 and doing it in the right order so that it all stuck. The blur camera always seemed to FC or just disappear. But now I have it all working. So is there anything in 1.6 that is great enough to upgrade and go through all the trouble of getting things exactly right again?

I have changed fonts on my X with 1.6 without a problem. I use font changer and change fonts almost daily.
