I just got off the phone with Verizon Customer Service at 8:10pm Central Time. They told me that they have "no set date on the Froyo release for the Motorola DROID." Don't know what customer service agent with the a crystal ball anyone else is talking too.
Well that customer service agent is a fail because verizon officially confirmed that it was coming this week and on the Motorola forum a motorola employee confirmed it also Here...
Motorola can tell you what ever they want. Unfortunately Motorola does not have a say when the DROID will get it's update. That is exclusively in Verizon's purview.

We all know Verizon customer reps have to look everything up on their handy computers, they even have to look up the procedures to go to the bathroom. so i am sure yours was just too lazy to look it up. as i said before time will tell.

Actually they do, since they do the distribution. Motorola and Verizon have a business relationship, Motorola makes the phones for Verizon and Verizon sells them. They coordinate at every level, from design to quality control to software to make sure that the phones function and function properly on their network. Motorola is responsible for the software, and working with VZW to make sure it works on the Droid according to Verizon's specifications.
I believe Motorola contracts with an HP subsidiary that does OTA updates... Bitfone was the name of the company, and the problem w/2.1 had to with a problem with Bitfone's distribution backbone. So, it's not Verizon that does the update push, they just give the okay to Motorola, who then pushes it out via Bitfone.
I am sure the OTA starts this week, midnight tonight? I don't know. But, it will be here.
Just got a call back from a top tier tech, tomorrow it will begin rolling out. She said I should be happy as it is a major update that will speed up the phone quite a bit.
