Ahhhh... I see.
I just learned something new today!

Pretty much. SPRecovery forces you to allow any update.zip installation, including (and especially) OTA updates.Sorry I should be more clear when I say rooted only I mean Super User permissions only no custom recovery installed (SP recovery/ClockworkMod) I think the custom recovery's block the OTA from be installed I'm not 100% sure about that tho.
so...what should i do guys? thanks for all the advice by the way, but im still a bit unsure as to what i should do. should i just wait to get the update notification, and if i don't by a certain time, then i should get the 2.2 root?
What you should do depends entirely on what you want to get. If you merely want the stock 2.2 update then you should unroot with the 2.0.1 SBF file, manually apply the 2.1 update.zip (the phone will install it for you, IIRC), and wait for the 2.2 update to roll out. If you want it NOW, you should flash in the leaked FRG01A file and run it. There's no point in risking not getting it because OTAs are blocked because of a root you don't really use.so...what should i do guys? thanks for all the advice by the way, but im still a bit unsure as to what i should do. should i just wait to get the update notification, and if i don't by a certain time, then i should get the 2.2 root?

JimmyD, it would depend entirely on how one rooted in the first place. If you used ADB to push some files and a modified update.zip as some people have done then no, the OTA is not blocked and when it installs it'll kill root access. If you "cheated" and installed SPRecovery so you could flash in Pete's "stock" 2.1 w/root ROM, then it's blocked. Any custom ROM will have OTA updates blocked as a matter of course to prevent having the phone think it's not up to date and update stock over the ROM. It gets confusing.
And no harm no foul. We all miss posts from time to time.
By the way, if I'm ever wrong I welcome people correcting me. We're all in this together and sometimes what we think of as fact turns out to be rumor, conjecture, or misinformation.

The first link has a step-by-step for flashing 2.0.1 back in (and I believe it also installs a stock recovery image if that's been replaced).
Once you've done that, put the second link on your SD card after renaming it update.zip. Your phone should install it at this point. If you have an alternate recovery image you'll have to tell your phone to install the update manually.
I'm not 100% sure of that, though. Come to think of it, if you have a stock recovery image, maybe just resetting the phone to factory default would work... But the problem with any of these methods is you lose all your apps and stored data on the phone.
