SBF to root and to unroot

I tried flash the 2.0.1 sbf for the second time (previous was a month before or so) and it showed up as a fail on RSD, but my droid booted up fine, everything seems okay..I should be fine right?

Sometimes it does say fail, yet worked. If it upgrades to 2.1 fine then I'd say you are good to go.

Well i did it. :-) Ran the Rooted 2.1 and it worked fine. I am now rooted and everything is working fine. I just need to fine a kernel i like to install so i can overclock.

Thanks for the words of encouragement and help. The instructions and videos were great tools to help with the process.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This post finally gave me the courage to go ahead and move beyond stock. Of course now I am hooked. I got SPRecovery set up, and did a back up like you suggested. Then I threw a custom ROM on. Spent some time re-installing my apps from the market. My question is this: If I go to change from my current ROM to another ROM, is there any way to save some of my data? I have lists made up, and a book catalog program installed. When I put on the ROM, the apps came through, but the information that I had in the apps wasn't transferred. Am I just missing something obvious? Thanks for any help you can throw my way, and again, I can't thank you enough for the guide in this post. It's a GREAT forum.

Never mind. I think I figured it out on my own. When in doubt, RTFM right? Anyway, thanks again.

If you searched the market for "backup" there are a couple of apps. I use Titanium Backup and there is Backup Pro too. There may be others, I haven't looked in a while.

Glad you made it safely to the rooted side of things!

Alright.....did everything by the numbers. In RSD lite I always get a fail. With SPR. I have the right driver, dpad up , phone shows up in RSD. When I hit start almost as fast it says fail?....Have I missed something?

For installing SPR? Try to download it again. Try renaming it to just 123.sbr, make sure you aren't renaming it to 123.sbr.sbr due to not seeing known file extensions, place the sbr file in the root of your C drive. I only suggest the last option because I've seen others suggest that. No idea why that would make a difference.

Your start button shows up, so I don't think the rename or new location for the file is going to be the fix. You may have gotten a corrupted download somehow though. The start button wouldn't show up if the file extension is not SBR so the that probably isn't it. In this case 123.sbr.sbr would most likely still work ok.

Make sure you are running the tool as admin, though I'd think you'd get a different error if you were not. Anyone know what it does say if you are not admin and try to run it?

Lastly, if you have another computer, try that one.

Thanks I will try it. I have a back up computer i will down load everything onto also and try it from there ....thank you

Used another computer....flashed fine. When I get to the wipe screen do I select yes to all user data? before install?

I have a Motorola Droid running on 2.1

Do I just follow box option #4 to root my phone or do I have to downgrade to 2.0.1 first?

If all i have to do is follow box option #4, will I be able to install things like bugless beast and themes?

Thanks.

You have to do box 1-2-3-4 and then you will have a rooted 2.1 phone. I did same thing and from that i have gone crazy trying different Rom's (after buying Rom Manager in Market). I am currently running Bugless Beast and love it.
