SBF to root and to unroot

Sorry tried that also. nothing. I cleared cache, uninstalled and re installed rom manager, rebooted and even performed a nandroid restore "Don't know if I did good or not here"

If you did the nandroid restore after the fix permissions usning rom manager then you will have to do it again. Sometimes you have to do it 2 or 3 times for it to take

bump. need help. Anything i try to do ask me for permissions. I just cleared all data and cache twice using sprecovery, re installed apps and same thing.

Can I try to unroot or reload sbf file with rsdlite?

Just to possibly help someone else having issues.

I had to name the file "update" only, if done correctly it will show as a package in Astro instead of a folder.

My phone also FC and reboots when accessing "Accounts and Sync" in settings.

True, if your computer is not set up to see file extensions then you would end up with update.zip.zip even though you aren't seeing the last .zip

If you look at your docs and don't see .zip, .txt, etc then you aren't seeing those extensions.

Glad you kept your posts in the same thread. It makes it easier to see the history of what you've gone through. You've hit a few bumps in the road but if you look over your posts in this thread you can definitely see the progress you've made. RSD Lite wasn't seeing your phone but then it did. Did you do anything special to fix it that others would learn from?

Rom Manager seems to be giving a bunch of people issues lately. You've lost root access with it. I don't know which rom you are trying to install but I would go back and get SPRecovery working again. Make a nandroid folder on the root of your card.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/49671-stock-2-1-2-2-froyo-step-step-installation.html post 13 has great instructions.

Basically just take the downloaded froyo file and drop it into the nandroid folder. Then use sprecovery to install it. Piece of cake and Sprecovery won't make you reinstall, flash back and forth, get you stuck at the M logo, or post a thread saying you think you might have bricked your phone.

just giving credit where its due.

i recently had to file a warranty claim with motorola. the phone i was returning was rooted (no bearing on the warranty claim; complete hardware issue- they suspect connections were loose inside, the screen kept going in and out). i dont consider myself a beginner when it comes to tweaking the droid, but i certainly dont consider myself an expert either. using this guide and with the help of a full nandroid backup from my old droid, it took less than thirty minutes to revert my old droid back to stock and have my new droid running exactly how i wanted it.

thanks for putting forth the effort to come up with these kinds of walk-thrus!

Ok so I put the update.zip in the root of the sdcard. I named it right, when i checked its properties it was update.zip, not update.zip.zip. well I just wiped my phone and im trying to root now, so i hit install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated) on sprrecovery and it says

"Finding update package
E: cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(no such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD: update.zip
Installation aborted."

What do I do now!?

dumb noob questions

Thanks for the concise instructions. I am a humble noob interested in root and modifications to my droid. I have read your instructions and many others, and want to be very careful before i do anything. I have a stock 2.1 droid, purchased in Nov. 2009. I have made a nandroid backup. I have not yet installed the simple root ESE81 update 2 file. It sounds like i wnat to use something like the bugless beast latest updates, but i am not certain how to do that. The things that attract me to that are tethering (is it both usb and wireless) getting rid of certain unwanted apps, helix launcher, custom screens, overclockig better battery mgmt, etc. Is the latest BB the right thing> And where do i get it>

I throw myself upon your mercy and expertise!

See my previous post about naming the file "update" only, no .zip or anything else. It should show on the sd card as a package not a file name.

If you flashed SPRecovery properly you should now be able to hold X while powering on the phone and enter recovery mode to create a nandroid backup, flash ROMs and kernels etc. There is no indication that I know of on the phone otherwise.

okay sweet thanks alot! i just rebooted my phone and now the little android guy was on the screen instead so i know it worked.

my next question is....now that i flashed my phone with that the next step is saying i should create a simple nandroid backup. would it be better to use the simple nandroid backup that this guide tells you how to make or the advanced one that this video tells you how to make?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi2cPTaPAtE]YouTube - Motorola DROID - How to Create a Nandroid Backup - Part 1

Hi Folks.. I have been attempting to follow the instructions for my Stock 2.1 Droid.. but alas no luck.. Here's where I think it goes wrong.. When I load up RSD Lite 4.6 (win XP system with newest 4.6 drives from moto) I get an entry in the device row but nothing specific..

And here is what I see in the Device Properties (in RSD Lite)
IMEI/ESN/MEID: N / A
Technology: N / A
Software Version: N / A
Flex Version: N / A
Bootloader Version: v0x002C6C
DRM Version: N / A
AP Die ID: 19200105fe640304000000000400
BP Die ID: 0000000000000000000000000000
AP Public ID: ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
BP Public ID: 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000

File Properties (for my Recovery) (in RSD Lite)
Filename: SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf
Creation Date: 07/14/2010 11:59:14
File size: 6345657
RAM DL Version: N / A
Bootloader Version: N / A
Platform: CDMA OMAP
HAB Type: Signed Production

On Start: Phone Displays "Hacking your Phone -mbm"
Then "Recovery Installed"
After aprox 15-20 secs it reboots ..This reboot takes awhile and the progress Meter on RSD Lite makes it 100% but the "RESULT" area still states "In Process". The Status displays "Please Manually power up this phone" although it is Booted back to the Lock Screen.. Now it has been sitting booted up at the lock screen but the RS Lite is still "IN Process" for like 20 minutes..

I rebooted the PC after installing the drivers.. This is my second or third attempt.. Any ideas? I would think that the RSDLite would have more info on my Device then what is showing eh?

Thanks for any info!
Rob

*** UPDATE***
Well.I tried again..same result..except I took the next step and attempted to do a Backup.. Well I can get into the Nandroid backup screen and perform a full backup (sans the MISC option this time). But last time I did this I could not get a SU prompt on a terminal... Do I not have ROOT at this point?? *** thanks

*** UPDATE -5 Hours later ****

Ok.. Wow.. What a Time Sink this is going to be!. . What Flavor Rom to try...What Tricks.. Lots of Reasons Not to buy a Droid X tomorrow..
One thing though...is it true that the best way to try the ROMS is with the SPR loader (X-Reboot deal) or is there a Click and Browse loader that will allow me not to rename the Rom to update.zip.. ??
Thanks
