SBF to root and to unroot

I dl rsd did the driver thing, then attached phone to comp, held up button, loaded spr onto it. the phone said rebooting. It never acually booted. now its just stuck at the motorola symbol . I loaded on a backup from this site and tried again twice with the same results. help?

edit - i just relized somethn, just bought the phone. last time i check it said firmware 2.0.1 i figured that was 2.1.......I hit update anyway and it said my phone was up to date. any clues on this. im sure this is what caused me the problem with spr. looks like i have the same problem as cadtech. tried the battery thing = fail.

I have a sbf that will work. And I have a 2.1 update and 2.2 update files. I can guide you through the sbf installe process.

EDIT: I was talking about whenever someone needed to get back to stock. The sbf files with recovery do not work. Installed failed several times.

Just for verification, the basic method outlined in the OP will work to root a 2.2 device by flashing in SPRecovery and using that to install a rooted 2.2 ROM, correct? Or did FRG01B/22 update something that blocks the install?

I'm 99% sure it wouldn't have done that, but... Don't want to advise someone poorly.

Yup. You have to trust who you're dealing with when you install them.

If you have recovery on your phone, pull the battery, then boot into recovery mode. Connect the phone to your PC with USB, go to mount options, then enable USB mass Storage. It will mount the sd card that way.

Or you could pull the SD card, put it in a reader, copy the file you want, put it back into your phone, and then reboot into recovery.

What are you trying to flash in? If it's a kernel for overclocking you need to try a different kernel. If it's a ROM you should wipe system and data cache three times then try flashing the ROM again. If it's a theme, wipe like above and flash it again. If all else fails, restore your nandroid backup.

i am trying to flash a new rom in i tried the wiping the data/cache three times and and then installing it but still no luck. i have tried the jrummy remix red and the stock one neither one worked i also tried going back to stock and it will not work either

Okay, go post in the rescue squad section and ask them for help. I'm sure they'll be able to get you right as rain here shortly. Good luck!

While nobody's come out and say it, lots of people have used them, so I'm going to risk what's left of my reputation and say yes.
