SBF to root and to unroot

2.2 to 2.1

I'm truly sorry if this has been asked before in the forum. I poked around and haven't noticed it asked yet but:

I manually updated to 2.2. I'm looking to roll back to 2.1. I understand the instructions to roll back to 2.01 then have 2.1 installed. My question is, since the 2.1 ota update has been pushed out to my phone once before, will they push it out a 2nd time to my phone, or must I manually install the 2.1 update?

Thanks!

not receiving OTA 2.1

I rooted from 2.1 to 2.2 a while back and now i am looking to unroot to receive the official 2.2 update. i used the update.zip method to go back to 2.0.1 but I am not receiving the OTA update for 2.1. under update status it says the phone is up to date... any help would be awesome!

Can anyone plz help? 2.1 firmware update-1 I have followed the directions to a tee. I used RSD lite and i installed the 64-bit drivers (i am running in 64). I am using the sbf file given it passes with 100% only after it says manual reboot then i have to restart w/ boot loader for it to complete. I install update.zip to the root. Hold the X, restore, install, allow, update. Restart. When I go to activate it says welcome to US Cellular even though I use Verizon. It will not let me auto activate. I have gone in and manually activated through the programming menu. I have a triangle up by my signal strenght like u get when the phone is not activated and I no longer recieve 3G data. Has anyone heard of this. This is my second time around with this same problem on two different phones (new one is a warrenty) Is there anyone that can help me with this.

http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/OEM/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip Rename update.zip and install normally. Verizon pulled the 2.1 update because they have a master file that seems to update 2.0.1 phones to 2.2, but it doesn't work for everyone.

What version of Windows are you running? RSDLite doesn't like Vista all that much. Also, are you trying to root or what?

Yes, you can. There's Easy Root (the app in the market will take you to the website to pay for it if your phone can be rooted), but the root might not be perfect. You could push SPRecovery via RSDLite; I've heard many positive reports that it works and very few failures, but you'll want to look into it yourself before continuing, of course.

Thanks for the link... i applied the update and it took me back to 2.1-update1. do you know if i will get the OTA update for 2.2 or will I have to do it manually?

You should get notice of the update and a nag screen prompting you to install. Or you can cut out the wait and install it yourself.

I tried using the altenate method to get back to 2.01 (from SG 6) but when I rebooted, I just get the eye for a few moments and then my phone shuts off.

Anyone know how to fix?

edited to add: had to factory reset and it boots now

Hey Christim, do you know why the ESE81 zip from pete in your OP is ~137 mb instead of ~60 mb? I swore it was never that big...

No idea. Someone else asked that quite a while ago and I was going to look into it....never had the time. I know it works though.

I've got to update the first post too. some folks are reporting problems trying to use the sprecovery file on 2.2 and say it works better if they apply the stock 2.01 file first and then flash sprecovery's sbf file.

This doesn't make sense to me because when you boot your phone you either boot up the operating system or boot into the recovery tool. Both aren't running at the same time. So while you are in SPRecovery and getting ready to flash a rom, it doesn't care what rom is currently running. Or maybe I'm missing something.

I haven't looked at all of the posts here yet (because alot of them are praises), but a response to the issue of

"i did the SPRecovery and it doesn't reboot" problem is because you haven't upgraded to 2.1 (ESE81), which this SPRecovery is designed to take care of.

This should be put on the top of this thread because i had a problem with it until i realized what was wrong.

Here is how to manual update. Once that is finished, it works like a charm.

There's also a 2.1 SBF kicking around and Pete has a 2.2 SBF on his website for download. I've heard people having problems flashing any but the 2.0.1 onto their phone. SPRecovery works flashed onto 2.2, though, for anyone I've heard try.
