Seidio 2600mAh extended battery

Anyone else having a "?" mark appear in the battery display? If so, can I get some advice as how to solve it. I emailed Seidio already, but I figured I would get a response a lot faster than with them. Thx for all who answer this post.

PLease PM me your order #, we will send the replacement out ASAP

Sorry for the problem.

Seidio

Update:

So i just went to yellow icon after 8 hours 52 min 25seconds seems better

Right now mine is 11 hours and 31 min and still green....
Battery left shows 74% with an expected total runtime of 36 hours 29min and thinks I still have 27 hours to go till dead.
Battery life shows 70%.. so does Droid system.
I'm exactly at 4000mv right now.
86 degrees F

I haven't used my phone much at all today other than about 10 short phone calls and some texting.
36% voice calls
21% display
16% cell standby
10% phone idle
7% wifi
4% android system
3% bluetooth
2% Android core apps
2% Android OS

Wow, that's crazy! If those are the kinds of numbers that the battery can get, then there is definitely something weird with mine. I think I'm getting the same kind of battery life as you, but yours seems to read a lot better with the Droid than mine does.

Battery Left doesn't seem to be working with mine either. As soon as I took it off of the charger, Battery Left estimated that I have 2:22 of usage remaining. I'll be able to go until 24+ hours though. I just put Battery Left back on the phone two days ago however, so hopefully it's just learning the new battery.

Do you get that error or question mark with the stock battery?.. if so.. take it to verizon.. its your phone.

If not, send the battery back to Seidio and get another..... especially if you aren't getting the runtime everyone else is getting... the droid see's something wrong with it.

Have you altered the phone in any way?

I have not altered my phone in any way, shape or form. I got the battery yesterday morning, put it in my phone, turned my phone back on and there was the "?" on the battery display. Charged it for like 15 hrs., took it off the charger and the phone died.

Mr. Seidioseidio, can you please address the issues noted in this forum? Myself along with several other people are montoring this forum for the slim extended battery. If these problems are not worked out, I would assume the slim will have the same problems. I would assume have a battery that lasts a few hours shorter, but reports properly than spend on the money on something where I have no clue when it will die.

This is putting a negative light on the company and will no doubt hurt sales.

Thanks

are you using a rooted phone and deleting batterystats.bin??

I'm not.... I'm waiting for the 2.1 OTA, then I plan to root.

But I just got 49.50 hours of use and still have maybe 3 more hours to go as my mv reading was around 3730mv.
I accidentally plugged my phone into usb to transfer a file and the realized what I did so I just went ahead and I'm recharging now.

Battery left app just got an update in the marketplace so I did that too.

how did you get expected total run time so high? Mien is maxing around 10 hours right now, although i am obviously getting much more then that

Since you know more about this stuff than I do...how can you use your MV reading to determine how much life is left?

I've been off the charger for about 5 hours now and I'm at 4087 with about a 15 minute phone call and very little additional use.

I've been off the charger for about 5 hours now and I'm at 4087 with about a 15 minute phone call and very little additional use.

No special rules.... I've just watched and learned that a good charge means when you take it off the charger, it will be just under 4200.... "like 4196mv or so"
I reboot to start the system timer over as its easier to clock how long I've been up and running since a charge that way.

I've also noticed when it gets below 3700mv, you have maybe 2 - 3 hours left depending on intensity of use.
I've noticed when it gets in that area, that allowing the phone to rest a while without using bumps the mv reading back up a to 3750 or so.
The lower it gets, the less robust it is at holding voltage under load.
When it gets below 3500mv it will start getting unstable and you will literally see the mv reading bounce around as you watch it.....and usually around 3350mv or so it will die.

All this is a little variable based on whether you have a load on the battery or whether your letting it standby.

Right now mine is charging and has been showing fully charged for about the last 3 hours.
While on the charger as I'm typing it says 4218mv
but when I take it off, it drops to 4160.

So I know I'm not truly fully charged yet.

After its been on the charger all night or for several hours..... 6 -8 hours or so, it will be just under 4200mv when "off" the charger.

I don't know everyone's habits, but I've noticed some people never put their phone on the charger till its in danger of being dead, then they put it on just long enough to get it back to full "or they think its full".... so basically it never gets fully charged.
They sleep all night with it off the charger.... maybe cause they are always getting text, or who knows?.. but thats the most convenient time to charge IMO.

If you do this and your unwilling to change your habits, I recommend you allow battery left to calibrate with your current use. But just don't be bewildered when you aren't getting the runtime other folks get!.. its not the batteries fault if its not fully charged!
It does not hurt the battery to not fully charge it, although you should try to do it fully at least every so often just to equalize the cells.

The updated battery left app has a calibrate button so you can recalibrate if you want to start the calibration sequence all over again to learn your new habits.

Seems my "total battery usage" changes if my total runtime changes.
So to some degree it appears to be learning even though it says 'accurate" on the readout.

Just got a reply back from the "battery left" DEV.

I asked if once it said "accurate" it quit learning and if it was necessary to recalibrate if you have new habits.

Reply was:
The app is constantly learning how you use your phone. The way as your usage changes (ie: you have a new job and use your phone less or more), the app should pick up the changes without you having to do anything.

If you know your phone usage has changed, doing a recalibrate will get you there quicker!

Hi all...

I'm the developer for the Battery Left widget. Thanks to windstrings for sending me over this way!

I'm making some changes this week that should support better estimation of Seidio extended batteries. I don't have one to test with so I'm working in the blind a bit but I think I have some good ideas. Will post on here when I've updated the market.

Regards,

Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt!

Matt, I've talked with the Seidio folks and they seem very cordial and professional... I bet they would work out an arrangement for you to do some testing with one of their batteries if you asked.
Of course, then you would also need a droid to play with... not sure Moto or verizon would be so agreeable!

I certainly appreciate your efforts to bring accuracy to the Droid batt readings of the Seidio extended battery "as well as other batteries too".

I've noticed if I interrupt the discharge by intermittently charging the phone for a bit, it really seems to toss the accuracy of the reading.

Once I'm done with this calibration stuff, I will be naturally charging the phone many times before it gets fully discharged as that is my normal habit as I don't like risking having my battery die while I'm at work. Normally, my battery never gets close to fully discharged as I like the buffer for insurance.

Anything you can do to fix that would be wonderful. It may be a firmware issue with the droid thats beyond your control.

We are all also hoping the next expected 2.1 firmware update will fix the issue with the batt percentage reading going drastically up after a reboot also.

I'm not sure how that anomaly will interact with your product but the Seidio extended battery appears to be a fine product that gives lots of runtime... it would certainly be nice if we can get an accurate reading somehow.

It would certainly be in Seidio's best interest to invest in your project.

Seidio, are you reading this? ;) Luckily I already have a Droid to test with!

i suggest giving Seidio a call. You most likely have a bad battery. They will send another via usps. I just got my replacement today

To do Seidio justice, they have been helpful with the pm's here, alot more so than the on site online chat and the RMA submission form.

so well done for the support guy that's always hanging around here.

thank you.

I agree, if he's getting a question mark that would be a first clue something is wrong.
Battery Left also has a feature in "battery info" that tells whether the battery is healthy.
