Seidio 2600mAh extended battery

No need to wait until fully charged - install now, then next time you charge it up just recalibrate.

Should we always do a recalibrate after an update? Or does it take the last info and keep adding to it?

As discussed in an email, rebooting the Droid "before battery is dead" totally throws all the settings for a loop... does that wipe calibration efforts off the map and cause a need to recharge and recalibrate if calibration was not completed before the reboot?

This is nice. I just looked at my phone and in the widgets place was a label "Problem loading widget". I rebooted the phone and the notice was still there so I trashed the widget (did not uninstall) and reloaded the widget and it seems to be working. Yesterday it went down to -5% while the OEM battery indicator showed almost half charged. This was after loading the newest version.
Like I said before and IMHO, this program sure seems take a lot of tado to get it to function properly (I'm still on the OEM battery). I'll give it a few more days.

The last update did that... I Had to trash my widget and reinstall it on the desktop too.

This is still considered a beta program, but I think it has lots of promise and seems very accurate till you have to reboot for some reason... but I think that fault is with Droid not the app.

Somehow the app needs to know the difference between a reboot and draining till dead.. maybe if the reboot occurs higher than 3400mv it could be ignored and the app remain locked on previous settings and readings?

Any telemetry that ties it to the droid system makes it vulnerable after a reboot.
It needs to be independent somehow and the mv reading is the only thing I can put my finger on that remains constant before and after a reboot "allowing for slight changes due to the battery drain of the reboot itself of course".

Its been so long since I"ve ran the stock battery.... does this reboot issue change with the stock battery also or is it only Seidio batteries?

It just registered my Droid's battery from 100% to 91% in less than 10 minutes (fresh charge) and after only 1 game of Solitaire. I emailed the developer about the posting above. I basically like the program and hope it'll do what I want... but...
As for what you described above, I don't know except that after rebooting before reloading, I still had the no-go notice.

- no need to always recal after update unless specifically noted in app info.
- charging the phone before dead shouldn't affect calibration data, however it does temporarily affect estimation data. The app depends on knowing the time it takes to drop from (for example) 90% to 80%. It then knows when the phone hit 90% and can extrapolate the position between 90 and 80 based on the time elapsed since it hit 90%. If you plug in the charger - even for a few seconds - when it reads 90%, the app no longer knows the time since it hit 90% as the charge will have affected the charge level, therefore has to wait til another level drop (eg 80%) before it can estimate again.

Rollingbones:

- sorry about the problem loading widget. I've just found how this happens and without going into too much tech detail it's my fault! I'm changing how the widget gets updated to try and sort some excessive update issues for certain phones causing battery drain which is causing this. Unfortunately this may happen again with the next release, but hopefully it'll settle down after that.
- 100% - 91% drop - did you take your phone off charge as soon as it read full? I've noticed on my droid (OEM battery) that if I do this it drops to 90% very quickly indeed. You need to leave it on charge after it claims it's full to avoid this. Technically this is probably correct, although admittedly it looks weird.

Just like to say thanks to everyone for testing and providing feedback, as well as being extremely patient. I'm the sole developer and have no resources to test across multiple phones, so the info you guys are giving me is absolutely invaluable in getting the algorithms and functionality working. Thanks!

It was rather quick, so I'll recharge, give it some extra time, let it run down and see what happens.

Rollingbones, I've discovered that as soon as it hits "full" during a charge, its not really charged as you can witness the considerable mv drop as soon as you pull it off charge.
Seems the device used to measure "full" or not, is simple voltage and during a charge that voltage trips before the battery actually gets charged.
The Lithium cells are protected against over-voltage so once they reach full "as indicated by "full" the charger simply holds the voltage at around 4228mv or so "depending on batt temperature"..... the cells of the battery don't always reach capacity at the same time as some are stronger than others and so it takes time for them to "equalize" so they all arrive at the finish line.

Like matt says... 2 - 3 hours longer after it says full is pretty good.

When you take it off charge, if the battery is around 90 F it should show pretty darn close to 419Xmv's. If the batt temp is in the high 70's, Ive seen it only show 418Xmv's..... but it certainly shouldn't drop below 4180 when immediately taken off charge, if it does, its not charged yet or your battery is bad.... I'm getting 50+ hours of use with my Seidio extended now... but thats just lots of text and a few phone calls, frequent checkin's to the market and a little browsing.. I leave wifi on all the time but not gps.
thats pretty much normal use for me.

It hit full about 50 minutes ago so I'll give it a couple of hours from that point. By habit, I usually plug it in before I crash for the night and unplug it first thing in the AM. I've only had the phone for about 6 weeks so I doubt the battery is bad. Right now, plugged in, it show 4198 so I'll give it some extra time.
My plan is to go with the Seidio extended slim version as soon as it comes out. I really don't want the extra thickness on the phone body. I've tried that with other phones and it didn't wok well for me. Thanks

Hey windstrings. Just out of curiousity, can you give us a bit of a breakdown on your usage when you receive 51 hours (or something close).

Like, how much display time you use. Phone time, etc. If it's too much trouble, don't worry about...but I would like to see how my time compares to yours. I am doing a full cycle today to recalibrate Battery Left, and I'm currently at 3870 mv with about 1 1/2 hours of display time and only about 5 minutes of phone calls.

Unfortunately, with DroidMod, you can't get readings on any other uses like specific programs...but these are the two big ones that drain you, I think.

I"m recharging now... but basically thats has a fair amount of standby time because with 50 hours, you have two sleep periods "at least" involved.

Usually its just for calls and texting at work with light browsing .... I'll try to remember to spell it out when I get discharged again...... I have posted similiar reports in the past.. but this thread is getting pretty long.

so basically....this battery does work and give you double the battery life..but from what i'm reading.. it just doesn't show accurately on the battery meter? Is that all? I mean I can deal with that until a fix or something is out... jus want to clarify this before I buy one

in short.... yes double or more even as far as triple. battery left is your answer for the battery meter. im a VERY heavy user, i was only getting 6-10 hrs on my stock battery. i normally get between 26-32 on the seidio.

I would say that I'm a moderate user, running a rooted Droid o/c to 800. Right now I'm running on about 26 hours since my last charge. The only real usage during that time is 30 minutes of phone calls and 1:45 in display time. I can't breakdown the specific usage on the display because DroidMod doesn't list that, but I know that I spent probably 20 minutes on Homerun 3D Baseball, and the rest was general browsing, market use, etc. I also listened to DroidLive and RadioTime for approximately 45 minutes last night (without the display on).

Currently my mv reading is 3805, which according to what windstrings has posted, should give me a decent amount of time left. I usually charge every night, but I'm going to allow it to drain today to give me a good reading on Battery Left.

On that subject, I have a question for preinvent! I am calibrating my usage today and yesterday at work. On my days off, my usage is much heavier. Does Battery Left adjust based on schedules that are drastically different, or will the readings simply be inaccurate on the weekends when my usage is heavier. If I understand correctly, the readings are based on time rather than actual battery consumption...but I may be wrong about that?
