Seidio 2600mAh extended battery

Seidio Slim a Dud

I bought the Seidio slim battery for the Droid and tried different charging routines. The battery has about 1/3 the life of the OEM battery. I have returned it. I have bought many Seidio products over the years and find them to be of good quality. This is only the second issue I have, but this battery truly was a dog. YMMV.

I got abput 16hrs of usage my first day. Mv's were right around 319X when I took it off the charger. Battery left is installed but I. Was in the middle of a rom change so that made it a little more difficult to for it start calibrating. I used LED hack to turn off the flashing red when light when the os reported a low battery.

Hello,

We are sorry about your experience and suspect that you have an isolated defective battery! Please PM us your order information and we will be more than happy to see what we can do for you!

We need a better solution..... turning it off does nothing for notifications of emails or new text messages either... I would almost rather have it blinking just to remind me I'm in "overtime".
Even if we could overide it to change the color would work for new notifications etc.

This time I"m at 46 hours since a charge and battery left tells me I have 13% more to go "5 hours, 22 min per the readout on the widget", system has been on 5 % for some time now. I"m at 3773 mv right now too so I expect the eta battery left is giving me is an accurate readout unless I start heavy use. Last time I think I got 49.5 hours before I accidentally put it on charge by hooking up my datacable... I fixed that by downloading "websharing" that allows my to fully access my computer and phone via that wifi connection I'm on to transfer anything I need.

I am using task manager "by rhythm software" to keep apps at bay that I don't want running... this "may" be giving me more battery life "not sure" but it does make thing run smoother IMO.

I bought the 2600 seidio battery in Feb 2009 and now it is being flaky like it has a bad cell. It will show as fully charged and all of a sudden during a web search or something that requires more power and it resets my Blackberry 8530 and does not come back till I put back the OEM battery and get past the low power looping it was doing. The warranty is only 180 days seidio says. So now either I get a way to recondition it or have to buy a new one. I paid $50 then, but now they are $60. OEM battery here I come.

i just contacted them, and they are sending my replacement out today.
you gotta folloa the procedures, and if it doesnt appear to be as good as everyone elses, just contact them.
customer service is very good.

Hi all...

I'm the developer for the Battery Left widget. Thanks to windstrings for sending me over this way!

I'm making some changes this week that should support better estimation of Seidio extended batteries. I don't have one to test with so I'm working in the blind a bit but I think I have some good ideas. Will post on here when I've updated the market.

Regards,

Matt

That's awesome. Thank you so much for your great app.

Seidio should really consider sending you a battery so that you could perfect the settings. I think it would benefit both. It's too bad the Seidio representative seems to ignore anything on here that we are looking for a response to.

I'll say this about the battery...as annoying as it can be, the battery life is ridiculous. I pulled it off of the charger at 8:30 am yesterday, and it's 8:30 pm now. That's 36 hours and it's still going. Granted, my usage hasn't been as heavy as a lot of days, I have downloaded about 50 programs (I traded in my phone because of some problems and had to reload my programs because of an error). I also have had GPS and auto-sync on the entire time, just to test the life of the battery.

If I could get an accurate reading on this thing, I think I would be extremely satisfied. When I traded in the old phone, I was routinely showing -200% or more "remaining" on battery left after about 4-5 days with the widget. Hopefully I can get a better reading as time goes on...either through the phone or through the battery left widget.

If your getting -200 it sounds like you are using it far less than you did when you initially calibrated it.

I used mine heavy at first just to test it and then later went to normal use... I decided to just "recalibrate" my battery left app since my use was so non typical .. that way I will achieve accuracy faster than if it kept those earlier readings and allowed them to be averaged in with current readings.

Right now I"ve about 52 hours of use and only 3646mv. That will last several more hours unless I go into heavy use.

After a fresh recalibrate and this being my first full discharge since the calibrate, its only showing -35% with "moderate" accuracy.

I expect once I fully charge it back up it should be accurate for how I use it.

I've had this app in now for almost two weeks. At the moment it reads 46%/accurate, but OEM indicator at the the top shows me as almost full (closer to 80-90%). This is with the OEM battery.
I've decided to go with the boosted slim battery when I upgrade. I keep the phone charge OK and have a portible charger just in case... I really don't need a lardy cell phone (this is based on my own needs).
Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like a lot of time and effort to get a simple program like this to "calibrate" itself and function properly. I'm convinced it's reading me low of maybe there's something that I'm just plain missing. I just want to be able to install a simple utility rogram and have it work without having to pay too much attention to it. I'll continue to keep my eye on this thread and see what happens.

In an effort to study and learn it, many of us have gone to great lengths to watch it.....

Ideally, you do as instructed when your first install it.... just honestly use your phone as normal.. . play like you didn't even install anything until a week or so later, then it should be accurate.

When we do things totally abnormal from the norm it only throws it off.

I texted Matt about factoring in mv readings into the algorithms to help the app stay on track of whats really going on with the battery.... not sure if thats feasible...but I believe just being able to see the mv readings helps alot as they are usually pretty indicative to battery state, regardless what the percentage monitor says.

Sometimes getting back to the simple works the best..... 4200mv = Full.... 3400mv = empty, then figure out the inbetweens.

I fully understand where you're coming from and can relate. I did just what you said, installed the program and acted normal (That's a scary thought to begin with). I'm leaving it in for now and see what happens. It's better than having it state I've got 20% left as the screen goes out from a dead battery. I've only let it drain enough once to where I got the warning for a low battery. maybe I'll give that another shot and see what happens there as well.

Hi all,

I've updated Battery Left and published to the market.

This includes (amongst other things) preliminary support of Seidio batteries. Note that I still don't have a Seidio battery to test with (nudge nudge Seidio!) so this is a bit trial and error. Hopefully this will help better calibrate your batteries.

To calibrate, charge your phone up full (keep it charging for an hour or two even after your phone says the battery is full) then use it normally until the battery is totally empty and your phone powers itself off. Plug in, turn on, charge up, and keep your fingers crossed!

Any feedback, please leave here or e-mail ([email protected]).

Let me know how it goes!

Matt

Forgot to mention - if you get any crazy values on the widget then go to the app -> menu -> send data. Drop me an e-mail with the ID you get after you've sent the data and I'll take a look.

Thanks a ton! Should I wait until I am fully charged to install the update, or should I start a recalibration after the update?
