Swype Android Beta!!

Thank goodness for the debate on the software industry in this thread.
It at least gives something good to read and ponder in these trying "swype-less" times.
:clap

Its not working for me. When I installed it said it was not for my devices and some features might not work. The BLUE LINE SHOWSup but it beeps when I'm done. I can tap out text but not swype. I went back to the old swype I had and it worked for a day and now it says my trial period has expired. Any sugestions? I should have stuck with the old version, it was working fine.

I have the same problem. No swyping, jut tapping. Hope they fix it on Monday. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3x, no change.

Are you sure you have Swype selected as the input method. When I reinstalled it, I had to re-select it. Now it seems to be working fine.

lots of posts here so forgive me for not going through them all... but bottom line I have the old swype installed it works great and I've not gotten a notice that its about to expire... should I download this new one?

Surprised that your leaked version of Swype is still working. But even so the beta version is much improved. If you're running a stock version of the o/s most folks have had few if any problems installing the new version.

However, the new version will (probably) not install over the old one. So you'll have to bite the bullet and uninstall the old version before installing the new one.

I spent a fair amount of time getting swype to swipe again. I was rooted on sg 5.0 which it seems others who got stuck also were on. Steps exist now to get things functioning again so others should be able to work through this faster.

I'm not surprised your version has not expired. Too much of a coincidence that a leaked version expires just as I install a beta version. Thanks for confirming yours has not expired.

My old one worked, my beta works. I'm not sure at this point if one is better than the other.

Can anyone point out a list of features and/or functionality that beta has that leaked did not?

For what its worth--I would advise everyone to upgrade to the free AUTHORIZED beta version of Swype--the other versions all have a timed disable feature, and you will have to update eventually. Keep in mind that you have to uninstall both the Swype app AND its installer app before the new version will install. The new version, BTW has some new features (like true auto-capitalization) that make it easier to use. They SAY that they are limiting the number of beta versions released, so you might want to hurry.
My advice, since they claim a beta version limit, is to register on their website, THEN remove the old version.

+1 :)

You might as well get the beta now for those who haven't.

It would suck to have the leaked version expire and not be able to get onto the beta version. I'd be fine with tossing them a couple bucks right now. What I installed months ago is what I have been using for my keyboard. I like it and it works.

However, I don't think the leaked version has a built in expiration feature. I don't know that it does not either. I'm just stating that mine expired yesterday right after I tried installing the beta, had problems, and tried to roll back. Others have gotten no expiration notice and have not installed the beta yet.

I'm posting this from the leaked version. I might be paranoid but this beta version seems like a good way to "clean up" any leaked versions still out there. I'd like to get the new version but don't want to be left with nothing when the official beta expires and I think swype has made it pretty clear that they aren't going to release this to consumers. I think I'm going to hold on to the leaked swype until we learn more or someone figures out how to get back to the old version.

I downloaded the apk using the links provided in the forum.
It seemed to install correctly, but it was driving me crazy that the app said I needed to upgrade. I didn't see anything about an upgrade. After a little bit of searching I went ahead and registered at the swype site and installed the beta apk they were offering.

It just asks you to register and it sends you a link for a download.

Installed and everything seems to be working right. I see why people find the app so interesting.
