Task Killers... The Answer from Google & Developers.

Can't we all just say we don't really care what the other person thinks about task killers and watch some terminator 2 in harmony?

Down with skynet!

Sent from my Droid

it dont matter what works on "YOUR PHONE" with what you do isnt necessarily gonna work on the next person's phone and what they do

here i got pom poms todancedroid:icon_ banana:dancedroid:icon_ banana:

There's some truth to that... b/c you can't really compare unless everybody runs the exact same apps with the exact same data under the exact same circumstances.

love when people make points so easy ty
nothing even remotely important to the discussion just grab your pom poms and dance thnx again

BIASED!!!!!!

Really? Have you bothered reading my post? For that matter previous posts I have made MANY months ago after testing multiple task killer programs on multiple ROMs and kernels? No? OK then. What I have is empirical data backing up my claims. Not anecdotal crap that people spew. I have tested in a controlled manner, over the course of many weeks, using the phone for exactly the same things at the same time, sans unexpected phone calls. Needless to say memory management has NOTHING to do with a Droid being able to run a specific speed kernel. Memory and process management is a function of the Kernel/OS and is handled in the exact same way on every phone. Therefore the only thing you are adding to this conversation is gasoline to fuel the flames. Speaking of flames.... TASK KILLERS!!! BURN THEM!! BURN THEM WITH FIRE!!! :icon_evil:

So should I still get redraws of my home screen?should my phone operate sluggishly without doing anything to it?

First regarding redraws are you stock or rooted? Stock launcher or after market launcher? If stock have you just accepted OTA's and have you ever wiped your phone doing a factory reset and then format the SD Card? How much/often have you installed and uninstalled programs? The SD Card is formatted FAT32 which is an absolutely CRAP file system and prone to data fragmentation and corruption. There is alot of troubleshooting that can be done IF the user is willing to put the time in. So in essence should you? Well that all depends.

Bias assumes ignorance... Those of us that don't believe in task killers are going off what google and other developers have said themselves. Our experience confirms what they tell us, as well. That's about as educated a decision as you can make, given the circumstances. That is not bias.

If your experience dictates otherwise, fine. But given the facts we have from Google, from developers (the experts), and from guys like DS above that have done actual testing, the burden of proof is on the proponents of task killers, not those of us that are against them.

Are you a lawyer? Seriously? Burden of proof is just making me think.. If the glove don't fit you must acquit! :)

It runs fine when you don't have that many apps on your phone. But when your phone auto-starts apps that you won't run or don't even want loaded into memory that should be there for you when YOU want it, that's where the system breaks down.

you dont think others have tested?
and just to clear the air

biasedpast participle, past tense of bi·as (Verb)
1. Show prejudice for or against (someone or something) unfairly

it is unfair to think what works on your phone is gonna work on someone elses phone as seen with kernels and roms.

So by that statement. Google the developers of Android are biased against those that use task killers? Really? The folks that are responsible and know the OS inside and out are biased against task killers? They have no idea what's going on?

ty now we almost see eye to eye the only point i am making if everyone looks at what started this is people was telling him to get rid of task killers

If they have tested, I haven't seen it, other than experiential claims here and there. And the keyword in that definition that assumes ignorance is "unfairly".

Since I've flashed to UltimateDroid2.2 it runs smoother. Even updating from 2.1 to FRG01B helped a bit. I still use StartupAuditor because I still don't want certain apps even pre-loading into system memory (IDMB? Yahoo Messenger? MSN Droid? Paypal? Photoshop Mobile? all these are apps that I only want to run when only I want to run them, not the damn phone!)

Note I use a Startup Auditor, NOT a Task killer. The problem is that the system keeps pre-loading apps in the RAM. People kept treating the symptom (not enough free RAM), than the cause (absurd pre-loading apps).

Now if someone was able to mod a ROM to allow you to manage installed apps in such a way as to allow them to be "audited" in the exact same manner as "Startup Auditor" app then it would be perfect! It could be done entirely by the OS without adding an extra layer of processing onto it!

You know, that's probably why this will never be 100% resolved. Those of us who are anti-task killer have Google/devs on our side (which, to me, seems important). But, anything beyond that is experience based, and impossible to compare unless every one of us gets together with our Droids, wipes them clean, installs the same apps, etc...

i have tested but i am a nobody and before i did need task killers since petes new release i haven't even installed

-autostart
-advance task manager
-advance task killer

here i willl put up what i found with alot of roms ud, chevy, lfy, cyanogenmod, lithiummod and so on they put alot into personalization which bogs down my phone. not condemning any of them they all did a good job

But
bb off the jump is bare essentials and runs 10x's better "on my phone"

That's another factor that I guess could come into play... each ROM probably manages free memory differently as well, so task killers probably have differing effects depending on ROM vs. stock, as well... I *think*.
