at least keyboards are black now. white keyboards were one thing. white keyboards in a manufacturing facility were another. there's nasty, and then there's just NASTY!

LOL yeah the keyboard I first showed looks HORRIBLE in pics but in person it looks just fine. Damn droid and its Flash of Truth

I am going to have a give a try to the infinite focus thing. Thanks to everyone who went through the trouble of taking pics and experimenting!

Resized to 640x480 on ImageShack, so this is after compressing the image... This actually looks pretty sharp considering I got four red corners!

So resizing it is the best thing to do. What app do you use? Photoshop or that picpro?

A quote from FAUguy on HoFo, who got his phone early and has proven trustworthy in the past as far as I know:
My insider sent me a message regarding the camera issue(s), so I thought I'd update everyone...

I've finally updated to the latest candidate release for the next update, and I can tell you that your camera concerns should (most all) be relieved. Camera focuses like a champ, and the bar code scanner is so quick to pick up the bar codes that I don't even get a chance to "center" them now. I'll leave the picture quality comparisons to you experts, but I've noticed a vast improvement! And this is on the same phone... again, this is most definitely not a HW issue.

This is good news indeed and you can bet when the update has been applied, I'll be putting the camera through it's paces again. :icon_ devil:

camera update will fix the shutter speed/focusing issues, but i don't see it fixing the noise... time will tell. 12/11 sounds like it's going to be a good day for DROID owners.

That picture is awful! The camera made that pretty spring meadow you were taking a picture of look like the parking lot behind a building! :icon_eek:

LOL

I know about cameras... my wife is a camera freak. You have to look at the image fullsize to see the issues.

Yes I can resize it down and massage in Photoshop to improve.

My memory of the pics taken with the Storm was obviously skewed as my test image taken just now proved to be less that awesomeness.

The Storm did take much better pictures, I noticed it immediately. I am very relieved it is a HW issue.

Technically, this is a software issue, if a firmware upgrade or any electronic information push will fix it.

The last line of page 5 of this bulletin speaks about here.

woow---this forum really goes IN on everything about the Droid. I love it!!1

MY problem is hardware I think... I've scanned almost every page here (at least p1-11) and I'm not seeing anyone having hardware problems. I'll check the rest but wanted to note that my camera and video act up quite a bit.

I faithfully used my treo 650 (yea, I know--ooold) in both pics and video. The quality was crap but I do journals and take lots of fam pics... sort of paparazzi-like) and it's getting more and more frequent where when I snap for a pic, it clicks weird and doesn't take the pic or I'll click for a journal and it doesn't acknowledge the click and I talked for 30 secs before I realized the video's not recording.

And the kicker is when I've done a journal and I click to end it--IT WON'T END! That's hardware. I'm gonna love taking this to the store to get looked at because I just KNOW when I try to show this problem to them, it won't happen. lool... the problem's not consistent but I'm hoping it's fixable without a lot of lost time with my Droid. It's quickly become indispensable to me.

If your going to compare the two phones, you really should take a picture in the exact same environment.

Not only did you use different angles for each picture, but you can tell the outside lighting from the sun is very different in both pictures. It is not uncommon for darker environments to have richer colors than brighter environments.

The outside light conditions of the DROID's shot is what makes it appear more washed out than the other phone.

Have someone hold your other phone and make them take a picture at the same time as you, or immediately after you take your picture. This would provide more accurate environment conditions, making it easier to tell the difference from the phone's abilities.

It just doesn't seem right to compare one picture of a brick wall to the second picture showing more of the trees, in my opinion. Notice how there is more light shining on the cars in the second picture? thats why it looks more sharp, not due to the camera.

I guess you only looked at the first page. I did a level playing field comparison a couple pages in.

Sorry, this thread is like 11 pages long. Didn't want to go through all of that. You might want to consider updating the main post so others like me would notice? Not being rude, just suggestion.

I'll see if I can find your other comparison.
