[ROM] The CM7 Gingerbread ROM (CM4D2-GB) is now ready for prime time!

i have downloaded the zip file from my phone. i want to make sure i do this correctly as this is my first attempt to install a rom. now that i have downloaded this file to my phone do i need to use bootstrap? or can i just go to install from sd card in rom manager? step 5 and 6 in the installation guide is kind of throwing me off. please help. thank you.

An update from my end.

Let's see, I SBF'ed back to 2.3.2 stock and downloaded the OTA. It flashed without any problems. The phone was performing the fastest and smoothest I have ever seen it and the battery life was pretty darn good. Then I started getting split-thread in my Messaging app. Seems like for certain contacts my phone decided to without a rhyme or reason split the texts. At which point I opted to give CM7 a try.

I did the one-click root method, reinstalled all my dev type apps, and pulled the 09/03 unofficial nightly from Rev's site. I also pulled GApps and v6 from Jake's Mod. I tried to flash it via ROM Manager and it failed ... tried it again ... it again failed. So I went the manual route. Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik then flashed CM7. Wiped again then flashed GApps and v6byJake. Now everything seems to be running just fine. I'll have to report back on the text messaging split threads (I did verify that there wasn't an issue with my contacts in the Cloud).

So a couple questions:
1) Do know when CM7D2 will be available as "Official Nightlies" for the OTA GB kernel?
2) Has anyone else reported at the failed flashes of 09/03 through ROM Manager?
3) To "return" to GBOTASTOCK one would have to SBF2.3.2 and re-pull the OTA, right? (For a clean install)

1. No idea yet.
2. Not supposed to use ROM Manager for it, not going to work for whatever reason.
3. Yes, until we have an SBF file for D2GB.
Bonus Answer: Please delete Bootstrapper because using it for CM7 activities now will cause bootloops. You can get into recovery with the power button now.

If you are on OTA GB just reboot recovery and wipe data, cache and dalvik. After that flash CM7, gapps and Jakebitesmod(if you want). Reboot and enjoy.

re:2, woah, didn't know that, thanks for the tip!

re:bonus, thanks.

mgarney, all of the instructions are in the OP. You need droid 2 bootstrapper from the market. Use the D3 rooting method, then use boot strapper, hit the top button, then the bottom one to reboot. You should see a black screen with green writing. Use the volume buttons to move, the camera button to select and the power button as the back button. Move to "wipe data/factory reset", select it and hit yes. Then go to "wipe cache partition" again, hit yes. Then go to "advanced" and select "wipe dalvik". Go to the main menu and press "install zip from SD card", select your CM4D2 zip file and install it. Then install the gapps zip. Wipe data and reboot. Should be running CM7.

I found a pretty big bug in my opinion since its something that matters to me. But if you have a ad2p bluetooth (a bluetooth that can be used as a normal bt and one to play music or listen to media on the phone) and have it on the ringer doesn't work on the phone. I noticed half of my calls were ringing and the others just don't ring if you have the bt on. I never experienced this bug on cm7froyo or any other roms for the matter regardless or eclair, froyo or gb.

So bt voice dial works and ringer doesn't work if you ad2p bt and its on while someone is calling. I've tested on two different ad2p bt headsets and two different phones flashed with the cm7gb and same results i hope this can be fixed since i prefer to have the bt on while i am at work. My cousin doesnt care since he only uses the ad2p while jogging to listen to pandora on the phone through the bt and would rather not hear calls then. I hope there is fix for this soon if possible.

You can use the bootstrapper to get to CM7, but after you are running CM7 you can't use it. Once you are on CM7, you can long press the power button, select "reboot", then select "recovery"

If you update to the latest nightly that will go away or reboot.
