The demise of a mobile app, Apple cult-style

It comes down to Apple wants to lock everything down their way and Android wants everything open .. thats why u wont see android news in their market and you will see apple news in ours .. might not be censorship and its not "good business sense" like everyone is saying ..its personal to them, especially if you have heard Jobs' rants .. i would rather them lock down more things so they can keep shooting themselves in the foot ;)

Has it occurred to anyone how unlikely it is that Steve Jobs heard about this app before it was rejected. That one person, and possibly his boss, made the decision. That we've heard one side of the story from the developer that submitted the app, and from the scant info available that developer expected the app not to pass.

It is too early to tell if this is going to be Apple's policy. Given Apple's tendency to keep their mouths shut until they are sure of what they are going to do, we probably won't know for at least a week or two. There are always two sides (at a minimum) to a story I can wait that long before I decide whether I'm outraged.

Seriously, never assume evil when simple incompetence and confusion will do. There is far more of the later in the world than the former.

People always use the "apple locks everything down" argument yet right now in front of me is my mac and I can open it up and change many things on it, which I have. I can dual boot into windows and download anything that you could on a windows based computer. I could put Linux or Ubuntu on it as well, I just don't think that argument holds any weight at all here or in any other case against Apple.

it's some childish attempt to convince themselves that they have made an amazing consumer decision by choosing android and that those who choose apple have no common sense or idea what they're doing. frankly, it's odd.

the people who are most adamant about apple being "locked down" are the ones who have probably never even seen an apple product, let alone used one...

So Apple is open source?

About it being smart business for Apple and not wanting users focusing on Android...well by that logic, satellite tv commercials should be banned from Cable TV, no?

Not the same thing at all, cable TV is made up of hundreds if not thousands of separate entities. But if you have DirecTV, you won't see commercials for cable providers. Atleast not when I had DirecTV as of a year ago. Like I said before if I sell OneTenderRebel products and only profit off of those products, please don't sell or promote you izoom products in my store. My private store that I am free to do what I want with.

no, did i say it was? when you buy your android phone are you able to use all its "open source" qualities out of the box? yet, android is touted as open source, right? you have to root first, right? so for the most probably 99% of people who don't root and own an android phone, are they somehow making out like bandits using this open source phone and able to do things that iphone users can't, simply because they're phone is "open source"?

no cuz the satellite companies dont own the stations they broadcast .. it just comes down to Apple controlling what people see. . if they made such an amazing product and everyone should own one then they wouldnt need to control it .. its just insecurity on Apples part

LOL wut? so the reason companies don't promote other companies is because of insecurity? and that's it? if you're product was super duper awesome you should just start promoting other companies' products because you know that yours is the best one? hahaa...o...k.

no but you cant use the arguement that Apple hasnt "locked" anything down .. using the term "locking everything down" is extreme but they are more locked down then Android is .. you cant argue that point .. i dont see Apple releasing their source codes any time soon.. the people using these forums do their homework. . thats why they have a droid .. it's not a childish attempt to convince themselves that they have made an amazing consumer decision by choosing android .. just sayin

You dont think so? Have you listened to any of Steve Jobs' press conferences .. he believes he has the best product since the wheel was invented .. so yeah if he has such a great product why not let an android centered app on your market? .. if your product is so great its not gonna hurt your bottom line .. If that's not the case why doesnt Android ban Apple related things on their market?

my argument wasnt that apple hasn't locked anyhting down...what i'm saying is to benefit from android's so called "openness" you have to root and the people on these forums are less than 1% of total android users, so my point remains. an android phone is "open source" in the sense that if you were to root it you can do whatever you want with it. 100% of the people on this forum dont even root there phones, so that number is even smaller. to bash apple and talk about "open source!!" is no different then apple fanboys talking about "700,000 apps in our app store!!"...it doesn't mean anything, because 99+% of android users are not benefiting from the "openness" of android.

do i believe that the reason companies don't promote other companies is because of insecurity? no, i don't believe that. i honestly can't believe you believe that. companies spend millions on marketing and advertising, and its not because of insecurity. its because marketing and advertising is a part of every business model known to man, probably from the stone ages when some caveman was trying to sell a wheel. it's business. you're not going to sell a product unless you advertise.

but the difference is is that people have the choice to root if they want to .. look at the nexus one .. its practically rooted out of the box .. the manufacturer of the phone doesnt want you to root, thats why the have e-fuses now
