The "Got my D3"/ first impressions thread

So, if you actually insert an sdcard, it gets mounted as sdcard-ext, and apps that normally talk to a mounted sdcard, do not see it. So you will have to treat it as raw storage for now it looks like.

is there a fix or workaround for this?? this may be a deal breaker and make me resend it...
mostof my apps had their settings and stuff backed up on SD card... if i cant get that back that would SUCK!

Been taking pics with mine, and boy do they look terrible. Also, when using the camera, my launcher falls out of memory, so when i get to the home screen all the icons have to load. I looked at the running processes and wow, there is a lot of junk on here.

It has backup assistant built in, which is totally useless to me as all my stuff was synced with google. So far, i'm leaning towards sending this thing back. Not impressed. It's fast yes, but not what I would expect from a current generation phone.

I know the bionic won't be a whole lot different, but at least it'll have enough memory to run all this crap.

as bad as it is now, keep in mind it came out today basically. How many things have your bought on day 1 that haven't had issues.

Just keep thinking of how it will be once we have root, no more bloat, custom everything, it'll be beautiful :')

Also if they Bionic doesn't come out in 14 days your kind of SOL on the return policy.

Download another launcher from the market...you might also have to download a home switcher app to use another launcher

Makes me wonder why moto can't just let us get a pure aosp barebones android phone (hence barebones, it's also a case of "gun-on-gun ya done" except with phone hardware, D3 hardware's pretty high end for the most part). I mean, the speed difference between cm4D2G and blur is staggering. Imagine the difference if the D3 had cyanogenmod or just plain aosp. Unsanely fast I will believe.

Very true, good points.

I still have my Droid 1, so I can send back the Droid 3 anytime in the next two weeks and reactivate the D1.

So no worries.

You mean verizon? Motorola doesn't decide what goes on the phone, Verizon does. Verizon wants branding on each phone because it helps sell more phones to the retards. Its the same reason why the device is locked down.

I think motoblur is one thing Motorola puts on though...hence the name MOTOblur? I'm no expert though...
Btw reading through all the posts about the D3, it seems to be a fairly good phone but is still somewhat of a letdown from what so many expected

Nice. Version 1.3?

And people saying they are opposed to alternate launchers, you should check out the Zeam Launcher. It's very lightweight and pretty awesome. You can get up to 7 screens.

Just an fyi, the icon redraw issue is not confined to the d3, i've experienced the same thing on my d1 running gingerbread, if that is one of the reasons you are dumping it just keep in mind bionic may have the same issue if it runs gingerbread.

Same here, I had CM 7.0.4 on the Droid 1, same thing would happen, except it would take a very long time for the icons to come back, or occasionally it would just reboot. The Droid 3 does seem to handle it much better and recovers much much faster.

I just power used the living crud out of it for the last couple hours. I played some games, played pandora, browsed the web, shot off some texts, took some pics, etc. It kept up pretty well and stayed with me.

Gaming performance was very good too, so it's winning me back for now. :)

Wish i could change the led notification color easily. Still hunting around for anything like that.

My OD running GB doesn't have redraws, not since 2.3.4.,
D3 has twice the RAM, why should it have that problem?
Is it just coming from camera?
Maybe it's the camera app?
