The "Got my D3"/ first impressions thread

Cool post BleedungPurist :)

I was going too wait on the Bionic, but am pretty sure the Bionic will be more battery challenged and I think 4g chipsets and the network are immature.

I shall get the D3 next week. The kb will also make game emulators more playable :)

Not plastic overlay. Reminds me of my old htc touchpro 2 keyboard

That is a fine compliment and with an even roomier kb, implies the D3 has the best kb to date, of any phone. Even reviews commonly point to the TP2 kb as the best.

The kb on the D3 may be its killer app feature.

the droid 3 is amazing i got mine yesterday and i love it even if its running "motoblur" my only complaint is that it has no camera button and the battery cover is hell to get off but thats also good cause its not gonna pop off like my OG droids did all the time. it doesnt come with an sd card because the phone has almost 12 gigs of internal memory.

i would highly recommend the d3 it seems to have very good battery life and the new keyboard is FREAKING AWESOME its better than the orignal env and the voyager keyboards. if youre coming from the OGD its gonna take some getting used to but it is well worth it.

Wow i woke up this morning and the Droid 3 was totally dead. It had 70% battery left when I went to sleep. wireless was off, and it was set to nighttime battery saver mode.

Wierd. Hopefully this doesn't keep up. Not gonna be fun going to work with a dead phone.

BleedingPurist, thanks for your post, and yes I also agree the phone is Droid. Not OG not D1, just Droid.

I'm looking forward to my time to upgrade. Hopefully the allowance is there earlier than later.

I'm having the same problem. I love the phone but I've got to figure something out with this battery. It's being nuked while it's supposed to be on standby.

You know, my X did that when I first got it. It would absolutely not hold a charge overnight. After a week or so it stopped. I have no idea why. Possibly the battery breaking in. But in either case, standby time has been phenomenal since.

I havent had any issues with the battery so far, I've been using it normally (Texting, browsing, occasional D/L) If I could screencap my battery use I would :/

Don't like that too much at the moment. Its tiny, in the corner and dragging it down so it hopefully locks is difficult one handed. More difficult than what I'm use to anyway.

However I have hope that I either get usse to it or find an app that works better for me. ;)
So is this your first android phone, period? Cause that's normal for all. It's a great feature. You'll grow to love it and it will become 2nd nature to you.

Notification bar is definitely the bee's knees, so much so that Apple is copying it. Don't worry, they'll be sure to sue themselves for it.

There are a lot of good messaging apps out there. The stock one isn't all that great. As someone who's job depends on texts, I can't afford to have a one-and-done notification so I use Handcent, which is a very popular market application and is free. The customization can be intimidating. But if you plop that on your main screen, you can see how many new texts you haven't looked at are awaiting you and you can easily open it with a thumb.

There is also Go Launcher.

I'm playing with Zumocast right now and I think I'm going to love this.

I had an issue initially with playback where it said something about a streaming error and ran a string of 'skipping track' messages as it went through the album. Not sure what the issue was. I had just turned off wifi to try it on 3G, though. I rebooted the phone and is now working flawlessly on 3G streaming the tracks. It does plenty of buffering to make playback flawless. I'll have to try it out while driving in a bit.

I'm currently trying to download Abbey Road over 3G, which is working just fine if a bit slow. Doing it over wifi is very quick, less than a minute for the entire album. I may start to retire my old iPod now that I have complete access to my entire library and then some, especially now that at least PowerAmp provides gapless playback on Android (something that STILL is not fixed in the stock player.)

Oh, and Zumocast does stream/playback FLAC!
