The "Got my D3"/ first impressions thread

After 2 days, I gotta say, I'm liking my D3. Fast, responsive and good looking phone. I also have to say that the PenTile display doesn't bather me at all. Coming from a D2 I thought it was going to be an issue after reading how people freak out about the qHD PenTile. I'm a little dissappointed in the fact that we didn't get gtalk with video chat, netflix or hulu but expect we'll get them pretty soon. Loving the physical keyboard and camera. Blur is nice, but I still think LP is better. Anybody just not liking theirs?

i'm actually a little upset about the ram. there were rumors it was going to have a gig. i'll see how i like the phone but i may switch to the bionic and give this to my fiance if she likes it.

i keep refreshing fedex's tracking page to see when it gets delivered so i can take my lunch and pick it up haha.

Bionic is also only 512 MB of ram breh.

Actually last I heard it was 1GB of ram

It has 1GB of RAM, but like the Atrix half is partitioned for the webtop app.

Nah. That's not really true. There probably is a section of statically allocated ram for web top, but it's nowhere near half.

Bionic will be the same as the Atrix, it WILL have 512 of it's memory DEDICATED to the webtop. Go ahead google it, read up. Which means this phone is no less than a phone than the Bionic aside from no LTE but better battery life. If you were to ask a lot of these new Droid 3 owners, Why?!?! They'll respond: "all I needed was a better performing phone with a physical keyboard and better battery life."

This thread lost it's topic several pages ago. *Sigh*

There IS a bionic forum.

If you want to discuss Bionic memory, could you please take it to a bionic forum?

Pretty please.

Well, Apple does make some sense in the last part.. they've stated, why add flash and slow down web browsing when it's not even complete?

That's understandable in some ways. But at the same time, it's not THAT bad and has gotten a lot better, especially on 4G. To me it's a great add-on to what you can already do. I don't wanna go on a webpage and be missing stuff. I can watch full episodes online with flash on my DROID without any lag 9times out of 10. So.. never mind I guess, it is dumb they don't add it.

I think they are taking the strategy that, if Apple refuses to support Flash, it will help force the demise of Flash altogether. They may be right.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not in love with Apple, and I hate some of the thing they do, but I'm willing to acknowledge the good things they do as well.

I really wish that Motorola would do as Apple did, and not let VZW put any bloat on their phones. That was an awesome move, and almost got me to buy an iphone.
Yeah.. but all smartphones (I'm not sure about Windows phones, haven't really followed those, correct me if I'm wrong) besides Apple really are allowing flash. And to me, it's only going to better with time. So Apple is at loss in that department if that is the case. But who knows, you, and they, could be right in the long run. I just don't see how it will fail unless flash completely dies out and something else starts running most of the video software and stuff out there.

I agree, some other software or add on will probably come out that does videos and animations. But I know for sure that it will come out on android, unless Apple makes it.

Video Review!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY0u3EMsV3o]YouTube - ‪Droid 3/Droid3 In Depth Review‬‏

Another video review. I haven't watched it yet, but it is only the third video I have found on youtube that actually has video of the droid 3 (and one of those is the CRT animation).

coming from a D1 I was not looking forward to D3 and the motoblur...but honestly it's not that bad..it does have hick-ups and if they continue i'll install lp or something to see and if it does i'll return it and go back to D1 and wait for the bionic or something...

i do hear some speaker pops i attribute that to having my speakers on high...

but this thing is solid built... it actually does feel nice and i can see some evolution from the D1... i'm a bit disappointed this isn't LTE but next year D4 will be LTE and i'll buy it...i need a keyboard, altho i am hearing that the vzw version of the sgs2 maybe keyboard...i hope more news comes out by my 14 days is up...

but for some reason the 3G on this phone is flying... maybe it's because so many people are moving to 4G and the congestion is reducing on 3G or verizon is making 3G even better or its just the phone...

but i like this phone and barring some major news in the next 13 days it looks like a keeper for me.

I think 3g is faster on the world phones for some reason. My inc2 which is a world phone also has fast 3g. It's twice as fast as my fascinate or Droid1 were.

I am unfamiliar with the effects of having a locked bootloader are... is this why I can't delete some of the bookmarks that have a locked symbol by them, or is there a way to get rid of them?

No, you will need to root. An unlocked bootloader will allow custom kernels and make your device unbrickable basically.

People, specifically the ones that persist in referring to "MotoBlur" or "Blur' in regards to the Droid 3....

Motoblur is not installed on the Droid 3. You are not using Blur on the Droid 3. Here is a listing of Droid phones with MotoBlur installed: Mobile Phones - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA. On the same site, there is a demonstration of Motoblur for you to view. This should clearly illustrate to those who have been slow on this detail that the Droid 3 is not using this interface.

This is not news. We've known this prior to the Droid 3 being released. Persisting in referring to the user inteface as Motoblur is showing and promoting ignorance.

If you really want to nitpick you should notice that the Droid 3 isnt even on the site you posted if you check for all phones(when I check view all)
