The "Got my D3"/ first impressions thread

I thought it was Microsoft trying to make Samsung pay 15 a phone. They're getting 5 a handset from HTC. Pretty much everybody is profiting off of Android. Back on topic though, I can't wait to get mine on Monday. I'm really hoping that I like it and don't have to send it back.

Same here... but I really doubt I'll send it back. I'll wave goodbye to Motoblur when we get it rooted, and I'm sure I'll love it then. Probably hang onto it until I get something with a quad-core, keyboard, and 4G (not worried about 4G right now, as my area has no coverage).

Time to deploy...ummm...anyone got any ideas how to intimidate them into not putting blur on our phones? I'm thinking an A-10A thunderbolt II

The only way to do that would be for all of us to stop buying their phones (a week before they're even available in the store)... lol.

I'm a firm believer that Moto makes terrific hardware, and junk software. Add to that, Verizon throws all their junk on it... bad recipe. Rooting and ROMing is a must.

Same here when I got my D2 in February. Luckily somehow my parents got verizon to put us on a one year contract :)

Sent from my Droid Bionic!

How did they get the one year contract? Please tell me- im desperate!

I think just talking to Verizon you can get a 1 year plan...only thing is you don't get the full discount on the phone

So you mean you have to have them give u the one year plan when u get the phone? U can't do it after u have had it for a while?

In my honest opinion, if you wanted an android that worked out of the box, the D1 or any Nexus would probably be the way to go...
I mean, I've never had a problem on my D1, like random reboots or freezing. Ever, before and after rooting/roms. It's probably just a result of the skins and ui's that we see so many problems. If the D3 had aosp 2.3.4, it probably wouldn't have any problems like reboots and such...

I loved my D1 at first, but after an update (2.2 maybe? Can't really remember), it started having all kinds of frustrating bugs. Had VZW send me three replacement phones (all with the same exact bugs) before I finally convinced them to let me upgrade early to the D2G.

Had I known about rooting and ROMing at the time, I imagine I would have ironed out my own bugs... but there you have it.

Good idea..but im thinking of maybe a platoon of Infantrymen ( myself included ) that swarm their HQ and blow up their motoblur lab and demand they take ideas from HTC Sense and even Apple and make the best UI ever..

Or leave it vanilla android and let us rom our own UI.

I just don't like apple as a company...especially lately since I learned they actually make more revenue off of silly royalties forced upon many Android phones and are currently trying to force poor Samsung to pay apple $15 per EACH phone sold over silly little copyright things...not saying suing over copyrights is bad, but from what I understand apple forced copyright on tons of features basically ANY decent smartphone uses (like they have a copyright on the main type of smartphone touchscreen I think)
Other than that I agree iPhones are good to start off but Android is better with a few modifications

I agree with you for the most part there.

But isn't it Microsoft that's making all the money off of Android? I think they are the ones (as well as Oracle) that are pursuing royalties off of manufacturers that are using Android OS.

Apple, on the other hand, is battling it out with Samsung over Samsung trying to make their products look like Apple's. Undoubtedly, that is the effect that Samsung is trying to achieve.

Really, all these tech companies are all suing each other. It must be insanely frustrating to be a part of any of that mess, but I guess it's inevitable with current laws.

Either way, I hate apple. They are profiting off android because they are (excuse my language) b****es. They think they own everything. Who gives a crap if samsung tries to make their devices look like apple's? TVs pretty much all look the same, but does anyone care enough to do lawsuits? No! And apple wont even enable flash player...

Too bad my UMSC bootcamp isn't till next summer.. I'd definitely join that!

Vanilla all the way!!! Wasn't that part of the reason for the huge success of the D1?

Which version is vanilla? I know 2.2=froyo, 2.3=gingerbread, and 3.0=honeycomb

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using DroidForums

Vanilla is Android minus all the manufacturer's modicfications (MOTOblur, HTC Sense, Touchwiz, etc). The Nexus phones and the D1 are the only ones I know of that have had vanilla android.

Any version of Android can be vanilla, it just means that it's pure, unmodified Android OS.

Well, Apple does make some sense in the last part.. they've stated, why add flash and slow down web browsing when it's not even complete?

That's understandable in some ways. But at the same time, it's not THAT bad and has gotten a lot better, especially on 4G. To me it's a great add-on to what you can already do. I don't wanna go on a webpage and be missing stuff. I can watch full episodes online with flash on my DROID without any lag 9times out of 10. So.. never mind I guess, it is dumb they don't add it.
