The "New" New Phone Rumor Mill

Anyone seen the thread about the Droid 4?:

Motorola Droid "Spyder" XT910 Pre-Release Thread - Page 16

Might be some new info in that thread about the Spyder too.

This has me wondering....where are insiders for Samsung and HTC phones hiding at? For Motorola phones HoFo is a very good go to spot.

Good catch... I added the Masarati to the "Rumors without enough info/merit to warrant their own post" section. I didn't have a chance to read through the HoFo thread, are there any links or specifics, or is it mostly more speculation?

Just was looking around and there seems to be a lot of websites posting the rumored D4, aka Masarati. Only mentioned about having slide out keyboard,LTE and about 4 inch screen. This maybe what I may wait on, as i was thinking about moving up to the D3. Hope the D4 is more than a rumor,:)

I have a feeling that if you see the D4 this year, it won't be until mid-December, but I really doubt a 2011 release.... it will more than likely be Q1-Q2 of 2012 before the D4 drops. Moto has been pretty consistent with it's "Droids":

Motorola Droid 1 – released November 6, 2009
Motorola Droid 2 – released August 12, 2010.
Motorola Droid 3 – released July 7, 2011

Just info from the person(s) who dropped the info about the Spyder. No Dpad, LTE, 4" ..or smaller screen than the DX or Spyder, physical keyboard.

I guess because I replied to a post before yours but posted it after yours, I completely missed your post this morning. Sorry about that!! I will add your links to the DHD/Spyder.

Personally i do not know what to make of all these rumors concerning different screen sizes and resolutions. We have heard rumors of phones running everything from 4 inches with 960x540 to full blown HD resolutions, IPS displays and 4.65 inch curved glass panels. In recognition of uniformitarianism alone, it seems that a full HD display is little more than a mirage right now. 720p sounds legit, bit reso is not the chief problem facing 4g handsets. Ever since the screen became more important than the radio generations of phones have oscillated between the addition of features and increases in battery longevity. In my mind, batteries are next. Or, at least they need to be. A 4.65inch panel becomes cumbersome to hold when you end up having to slap a 3000mAh Li-Ion behind it. Personally I like my phones heavy so this doesn't bother me but then if others share my opinion, them phone manufacturers ought to institute a dichotomy between heavy hard hitters and lightweight dynamos. Without further digression, I think we can expect a trend through and after the holidays in devices to come. New OS experience, better battery life, streamlined data experience, & bigger screens. I don't think we'll see much performance increase after the Q4 phones hit. They're going to make a big splash and all for nothing. Why? 2 reasons. The first is obvious: hd screens will always devour batteries until devices can charge by induction at a distance. Secondly, theres no real motivation for so much processing power on a device with a poor cooling system and limited peripheral connectivity utility. The only thing I can gather is that at a time when smart phone interest is arguably at an all time high, they're going to test the water with a little of everything. 4inch, 4.3, 4.5, slider, candybar - all with a mix of 3g, 4g, and varying resolutions. But after the new year, I think we'll see a dichotomy between the 4inchers and the almost 5s. The 4.3 is a pain in the ass. Its too big and too small concomitantly.

On a side note, does anyone know where whether or not there have been independent studies done of battery life with Pentile versus AMOLED? If so, is there much difference?

More good points! I love reading your posts. I think after the last couple I have read, you've unlocked another couple % of my brain. I think I'm using around 12-14% now! Thanks! :)

Added some anticipated dates to the first post... do y'all see any dates I'm missing? (not sure how you could see something if it's not there)

About this thread: I wanted to make a single post with what (we think) we know about the upcoming top tier phones and links to sources for any pictures or updates. I will added/update info as I find it and/or it is discussed here. The primary reason I felt this is necessary is because all this info is scattered all over the place in forums and sub-forums across DF.net. While I feel that this make it necessary to have all of this info in one place, it also makes it very hard to collect and consolidate the info to begin with. This is where YOU come in!! If you could be oh-so-kind, please take a second to look through the phones listed and make a quick post with ANYTHING you feel should be included for any of the phones. I would like this to be a place where someone can come and a quick rundown on all of these phone we are continually speculating about and deciding which one is worthy our precious upgrade, a 2-year contract and, most importantly, our money.

Do you think the phones being released later will be worth the wait?

Which do you think will be most revolutionary to the World of Android? Which the biggest flop?

So I don't have to put "Possibly...", "Maybe...", "Rumored to..." before every single statement:
All statements are to be considered unconfirmed unless tagged with [Confirmed] and linked to a source.
Confirmations can only come directly from a carriers or manufacturers so there is no debate on one thing being "more official" than another.

November 3 - First Anticipated Release date for Nexus/Prime
November 17 - Second Anticipated Release date for Nexus/Prime
