The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

ok my source has informed me and trust my unicorn knows all. he said the phone shipped but due to the power of the phone they all burned up in transit. thankfully someone broke the rules and opened their boxes early and discovered this.
as it seems truss was the only one who remembered that verizons goto delay tactic is to shut off 4g so they can use this as a reason for a delay and play it as they are doing you favor. but now that we know the problem he said that it will definatley be released on the 9th or the 12th or the 13th or before the 20th or after the 21st. but none of that is confirmed really.
the important part was he told me the phone would definatley be released before the months of delays for ics on any other phone. of course that's barring complete cancellation because the phone doesnt have paper thin kevlar on the back. but they may be putting in a set of acme head phones to compete with some other product. the headphones are called hissers that way if there is a hissing sound from them it looks like a design feature. and of course this will all be on verizon. and with the phone comes a new motto.

Verizon ruin the air!

Ok guys...just came from verizon store. First, I was messing with the Rezound as I was waiting to be helped and clicked on the Gmail app. There was one email on it from the "Android Team" to Gmail account prefaced with a "VZW" that said "Welcome to Your Galaxy Nexus". I pooped my pants. But I had to stay strong and investigate. Not too much info on the email except some "how to" type things. At the bottom of the email it said "This email was sent in response to you activating your Gmail account on a nexus." So my conclusion is that obviously the store has them. Not ground breaking info I know, but I figure I'd pass it along.

The story gets a bit more interesting when the CSR comes over to me. I dont mention the email I just read, as I wait for his reaction to my nexus questions. Surprisingly, he was very up front with me. I'll give the bullet points of what he told me:

Tomorrow was the confirmed release date for the phone. But it is %100 NOT GOING TO BE TOMORROW. I asked when. He busts out his phone and open his email up and says next week. I say Tuesday? And he says no. Later in the week, but not Friday. I say so I shouldn't stop by the store tomorrow at all? Defiently? He says don't come by, it won't be here. And this is the killer part, which made me laugh. I'm quoting him, "Right after I'm done talking to you I'm going to the back and play with one. We just got our shipment in and haven't seen them yet." Haha. So then I say I'm going to come back after work to see what he thinks. He said sure.

Finally, he said two reasons for the delay: 1) The 4G network issues 2) Google is updating the software and wants it to be ready when the customer buys the phone. So instead if getting prompted to update 4.0 within an hour of activating our Nexis(i like saying that) it will be updated at time of purchase. Obviously take this with a grain of salt, but I have a good read on people and he was sincere.

Good intel, where in NJ?

Tomorrow on this thread: Two Scenarios

Scenario One:
100+ Posts of...

"Walked into my local Verizon store today and asked for the Galaxy Nexus. Turns out they do have them and stock and are selling them! This post from my Galaxy Nexus!"

Scenario Two:
100+ Pages of...

"Walked into my local Verizon store today and asked for the Galaxy Nexus. They told me they didn't have the phone and a release date wasn't known yet. After a brief attempt to sell me the RAZR or Rezound they realized they weren't getting anywhere. I could tell from the twinkle in the salesman's eyes that the phone is definitely going to be released on the [insert date]. I know most of you will write this off as another rumor but Mr/s. [insert name] is clearly the most knowledgable Verizon employee in the country. You can all continue the guessing game but remember what I said. It will come out [insert date]."

Each followed by...

If the phone stock is already in store, it can't be updated unless turned on, so this doesn't hold water.

The 4G network problems could definitely have thrown a wrench in the Friday release though.

Those 2 reasons make sense for the delay to me, especially the OS update. I don't imagine Google wants that image of a brand new OS needing an update only an hour after purchase, how they push that update to the units already shipped out, I don't know...Verizon better not be opening packages to update then re-sealing them...

As for 4g going down, could speculate that it was done on purpose to provide a reason for delay, but I'm not gonna get into that and start another fire regarding the Nexus lol.

So carrots and mayonnaise sound better? carrots and sour cream? both in ranch.... Haha i realize its not the normal dip but try it before you hate. btw love the avatar pic. better then the stock droid eye.

Carrots and sour cream might work... glad you like the avatar 8D I was going to use just the face but figured no one would know what it was.

I know this is out of topic but the market has ADW EX Launcher for 10 pennies! and I like their new ICS look alike theme

A bit off topic, but thanks. Just downloaded it and WOW, light years better than the version I was using with cm7. The ICS like functionality is amazing. The folders are great! Everyone should jump on this for 10 cents.

Thats a good point. I honestly took the whole "Google" reason as a way to blame them as well. Because I said to him, "Is the reason for the delay because of the 4G problems?" he said yea but made damn sure to get that Google update comment in...

Updated at the time of purchase. Makes perfect sense. They turn on phone, activate it, update it, and hand it to you.

Edit to be clear... I do think he made up those reasons and really has no idea. But he might!
