The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

Exactly. If the device is still that unstable and buggy, why the heck did they hold the Nexus/ICS event? Put it off for another month or so until everything is truly ready, then the device can be released while consumers are pumped. Now they have to deal with disenchanted nerds like me. As much as I dislike Apple, they ride the wave better than anyone else.
100% agree on the Apple comment. This will be my first google/android phone and this is how you(google)welcome me to the fam?

You guys fail to realize that the failure isnt in the phone itself neccesarily but the fact its on vzw lte which is still in its infancy. This is a well anticipated device and you want to limit the amount of lte connection issues.

No offense, but i cant tell since their(VZW)pushing 4g like its the best thing since slice bread.

is anyone worried about the Front Camera issue that UK owners have on the xda forums??

"Front facing camera doesn't aim inwards towards your face. It points straight forward at 90 degrees, but it's positioned on the right of the device, so your face isn't central unless you hold the phone at a bit of an angle facing away from you. [EDIT - this is getting very annoying now. You have to have the phone scren pointing almost away from you to video call]"

I really hope this is not the case and could be something stupid, or this could be a deal breaker.

No, it's only one guy I've seen post about this problem.

If you look at the review videos, you can see people pointing the device straight at their face to unlock the screen and they aren't having that issue of having to turn the FFC at an angle to get in the center.

Most likely the actual lenses in the phone are angled a bit, which is just a hardware flaw specifically with his device.

And there have been plenty of issues with Verizon's new network with every phone that uses 4g. But since the last nationwide outage a short bit ago things seem to have been much better. I do feel Verizon has been having issues with their new network but they don't really want to announce it.

I'm not sure I buy the LTE problem being the hold up for the Nexus, it didn't hold up the Bionic or Razr/Rezound from being released. The Bionic is still having loads of connectivity issues and a friend of mine has the Razr and has the same problem, so it looks like this is a problem with the network most likely. Delaying the Nexus because of LTE connectivity issues when they've been fine with releasing new devices with the faulty network doesn't quite follow previous pattern.

I'm not debating whether the Nexus has LTE problems, I'm sure it does, all the other 4G phones do, I just wonder if that's the reason for it's hold up.

The problem with this theory is vzw is still pumping out 4g phones all the time. If it was such an issue that would straight up halt the release of the phone, we wouldn't have the bionic razr and rezound releasing weeks apart. There's definitely an issue with 4g handoffs on vzw, but there has to be some issue with the nexus hardware/software issue too.

It's tough for me to say that, since I'm a pretty big Android homer. I've been working on my coworkers to switch/stay with Android, but I've already lost a few to the dark side.

Yeah they are getting better but they still have work. Its no coincidence that every lte device released seams to have similar issue when the device switches from lte to 3g. Basically the handoff issues continue to plague devices and its more relevant to people who live on the edge of a lte area. Is this a deal breaker no but if you can limit the frequency you can avoid returns.

I think I just need to stop reading all the rumors and scan headlines for the release.. O wait I signed up for the email information... ;)
I simply can't believe the 16gb only rumors.
I simply cant believe next week phone in hand.

Just take everything as a rumor and start laughing about it or read bad iphone reviews. That always seems to help.

Yeah that may be.
