The Official DF Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release Thread

I am a bit disappointed that Matias Duarte didn't know what he was talking about when it came to when we would be able to buy this phone. I know he doesn't work for Verizon but I would think he would at least have reliable information.

I have not heard anything else out of him lately.

I'm sure he's disappointed that the Nexus and ICS aren't hitting the US market for another two weeks.

so just to make sure, we dont know jack about this phone right? except the camera with no lag and the 1.2 dual cpu the screen size, resolution and lte right? everything else is just made up bs?

While Matias Duarte is a director/exec, it isn't his department. I am sure he just hears some bits and pieces from conference calls and meetings that pertain to both areas at the same time. I go through this a lot and routinely give wrong answers that changed 30 minutes after a conference call when it doesnt relate to me. This is why managers not knowing anything is a very true statement. Unless it directly relates to my group I am wrong 50% of the time. If its in my group I am only wrong 40% of the time..

We know everything about the non-LTE version. And we know pretty much everything about the LTE version except for the storage (32 vs. 16gb) and a release date.

Release date was pure speculating. The only announced date was November 17 for Europe. The LTE version of the phone wasn't even at the press event. I wonder why. Since no official announcement from the carrier, no one owes us any confirmation of anything. Even specs com Google aren't official until we have an official release from Verizon. As entertaining as this thread is, the sense of entitlement is a bit nauseating. What if the bugs can't be worked out to vzw's satisfaction and vzw pulls the phone? Post traumatic stress syndrome?

And its never been known for a exec or board member to spout off at the mouth with information that turns out to be misinformation.

Sense of entitlement?? Relax buddy. Please exit the Nexus forum and go to the Razr one please. Thank you.

Well, I did it. I finally had enough of the GNex release hype. The latest is the volume bug found in the international version of the GNex. Don’t get me wrong, I want this damn phone, but I’m willing to wait and not be a beta tester for all the kinks to be worked out.

I took the plunge and bought a slightly used Droid Bionic. Hope to get it in the mail soon. Since I bought off-contract I still have the option of upgrading to the GNex whenever this ridiculous U.S. release has come and gone and the phone has time to mature, maybe around spring-time. Then I can buy it at a reduced rate. :) In the meantime I’m looking forward to playing with 4G over the holidays on the el cheapo Bionic I bought.

It’s kind of ironic, I upgraded from a Treo 700P (loved that damn phone) to my OG Droid, but it was five months after the OG’s release and I got it for $50.00 on Amazon wireless as an upgrade. When I first checked out the OG Droid I was not impressed from a physical standpoint (don’t worry, I’ve changed my mind now). What sold me on the phone were the Android OS and its anti-crapple attitude.

Heck I can even wait for Moto to dump ICS onto the Bionic to test drive it before upgrading to the GNex, or root the Bionic and Rom ICS myself.

This thread is like a drug... I need to completely detox but I know I'm going to keep coming back.

How come part of me still thinks there will be an announcement saying it will be released Black Friday, it could be Thanksgiving and I would still be combing this thread for the headline. If only this phone would have been kept under raps better, I could be a happily bliss RAZR owner.

In the mean time though,
DroidForums app still working great on OG Droid. :)

Yup, the SD storage is 16g and the internal is 16G

Haha so thats how u explain googles tech specs page stating 16gb... their web teams are stupid? Gimme break. Post when you have something worth posting. Posted my proof. Googles own webpage.

I find it funny you are all overlooking the images I posted. They are from the same source as the 2nd image Droid-Life posted showing the 8th as the new date. I'm telling you, without a doubt, you CAN trust OMM (Verizon mechandising). It's an internal (intranet) portal only, accessible only from VZW-intranet connected computers and is a 110% legit corporate system. You even need a special login to get access - this isn't just any e-mail sent to all VZW employees. This is how store managers often know what is happening but won't say anything to reps (who are purposely kept in the dark) - usually just managers and the OMM/merchandising person in the store (sometimes a rep, sometimes an assistant manager) have access. And they are *not* allowed to speak of launch dates/releases to other employees unless it's their superior. If you're a rep doing OMM, you do not discuss information you see in OMM with others. After all, someone has to change promos, call-out cards, get inventory ready, etc. It's the OMM person. And they have to know stuff ahead of time. To ignore this as a source is asinine.

The 8th, at this point, is less of a rumor and more of a proven but tentative date. And yes, OMM can change and will be updated if the launch date changes. And if the date changes, I can do what I can to get more pictures to show the new date, but it may be that the 8th comes and is indeed the launch date. I am not loyal to this date, but until I see a different date in OMM, if it even happens at all, I am sold. Pretty hard to argue with this when the piece of paper is in your very own hand.

They don't tell anyone, not every their reps. Except they do tell droidforums.net.

I don't think anyone is overlooking them... it seems most people have settled in on it being released on the 8th with a dash of hope that it comes sooner. The bigger debate is what specs said device will have when it is officially announced and when that official announcement when come.
