The "Official" Waiting for an Update Thread

Because according to Verizon and Google, nexus means official updates straight from Google. Rooting voids your warranty. On a phone that is known for running hot, I'd rather not take that chance. Plus I like Google's software a lot more than Joe Shmoe making roms out of his mothers basement. I like pure android, not a company's skin or an Indy developers version. That's also what nexus means. Pure android. Updates straight from Google. Those are a lot more associated with Nexus than "meant to be rommed", except in a few techie forums and sites.

Not all rom makers are joe shmoe's working out of moms basement........its my dads basement darnit! :)

Just wanted to add..i thought this same thing from dec 2010-april 2011 when i finally got tired of waiting for froyo on the droid.
I was scared to death of rooting and at that time it was much more complicated than it is now adays.
Trust me if you were to root and install a custom rom you would never look back.
But voiding Warranty is a legitimate concern. and I have to agree with most posters here that verizon and google did a bate and switch and intentionally led people to believe this was a google nexus device (to include having source for it until most developers bought the phone than removed it)
with expectation of Nexus type updates from google.
Even with that its a darn good device and i heard a rumor it even makes phone calls.

Is it possible that Google or VZW,will release 4.0.4 or .5,after Sprint gets their Nexus sometime this mth?I think it's the 21st.

I only hope for an OTA by end of April... This phone is no faster at getting updates then another phone.... Samsung Google and Verizon .... This is not the kind of service we paid for when we bought this device...........

I mean I would not mind if every week my phone had a update.... Even if it was a fix for one thing at a time.... At least it would assure me that they meaning all 3 are willing and trying to fix the bugs.... Yours truly... The Forgotten Nexus

I'm with you I know they have some of the fixes, fixed already we just don't have fixes to anything that is fixed yet. I wish I could be on a development group to help test some of these releases and at least get some things fixed.

And before anyone comments on that type of group I have been a alpha, and beta tester and know while one thing gets fixed another normally breaks but then more updates means quicker fixes also. If they hold back til everything is fixed we will never see an update cause they never work out all the bugs EVER!

I agree. The most important thing for me is the fix for the pin lock bug. I have punch in an 8 digit pin every time I unlock my phone even though my exchange policy says one hour of inactivity

Im not having that problem... Lost data all the darn time weak signal strength but can't say I drop calls often but no signal and can't check email or go on line but most times can make a call most time..... Now I un boxed it and checked for a OTA update as I do once a week and bang!!!! Rebooted.... I'm all but fed up with it..... 10 more days is all it gets then I hate to do it... but it's gone... Probably going to take a beating in in to sell because who whats a phone noted to have trouble
