hi, noob here. i've got my droid 1 rooted finally (used rooting droid 1 regardless of OS version instructions) and then did a nandroid backup (used sirpsychosis 0.99.3b to back up).
now want to do my first custom rom and would like to choose ultimate droid 1.0 to try. i also bought titanium backup pro. and i also bought ROM Manager and i see UDv1.0 listed in ROM manager.
anyway, i can't seem to find instructions on how to get UDv1.0 installed (should i use ROM manager? or do i have to use ROM manager?) can anyone help me with some instructions please? thanks
Since it sounds like you are still on SPRecovery, if you want to use ROM Manager/ClockworkMod, you will need to first:
Flash a Custom Recovery Image
1. Open the ROM Manager app and click on Flash Recovery, choose your phone model and wait for it to finish. (You may need to click Allow if Superuser Permissions pops up).
2. After it says success, you have a custom recovery image and can continue.
Then, DO NOT download ANY blackdroid/ultimate droid roms from ROM Manager - (don't ask
just download the link to the .zip in the OP.)
Next, you cannot install this via the ROM Manager GUI (at least I wasn't able to) so you will need to do this:
Flash a Custom ROM
1. Plug in your phone via USB cable and mount the SD card so you can transfer files to it.
2. Copy the ROM’s zip file to a folder that you remember...if you don't have much on your SD card yet, you could just copy to the root, but I like to keep my ROM's in folders to help keep track of them. (Do NOT extract the .zip file, leave it as a .zip file).
3. Unplug the phone from the computer.
4. Reboot into recovery by either opening ROM Manager and clicking on Reboot Recovery, or hold the "x" key while powering on your phone.
5. Once in the custom recovery image, do a Nandroid backup (Sounds like you already did this, but since you now have a different recovery, you should probably do it again.
6. Once the backup is done, click Wipe Data / Factory Reset (three or four times apparently helps).
7. Once the wipe is complete, choose "install zip from sdcard" then browse to your saved .zip file and flash the ROM you put on the sd card.
8. Once it is done, select reboot system now. Enjoy!
You can (and should) choose a different kernel than the one supplied, just to make sure your droid is happy with the kernel you are using. Links to compatible kernels are also in the OP, and you can use the same procedure, minus the wipe/factory reset part to get a custom kernel installed.
Make sure you look into SetCPU as well, as that is mentioned here frequently, so a Google search should suffice there.
Good luck!
Oh, I bastardized this site for the walkthough in case you get stuck, or I missed something:
