The Ultimate Droid 1.0.0 - Droid 1 Only

Questions:
1. anyone notice a performace difference between using compcache vs not using it?
2. UD1.0 runs really hot on my phone; even with setcpu profiles running. anyone suggest has any suggestions to keep the heat down
3. anyone recommend a good kernel thats worked for them for the battery AND heat?

Thanks

I'm using Chevy's ulv 1.1. Never goes above 98 and haven't gone below 70% battery with a whole days moderate usage. Not using setcpu at all either.

good call. i was using the same kernel, but opted for slayers for the compcache, but never really noticed a performace increase. so im going back to chevys kernel and going to try uninstalling setcpu and just letting UD's CPU scaling do its thing.

Thanks for the suggestion

Is there anyway to get the stock launcher with this rom instead of launcherpro? I am really digging this rom except for not having the stock launcher....

Follow-up

Ok, I wanted to followup on some comments I made a few days ago when I first tried this ROM. After using LFY for a while, I liked the speed but was missing some of the extras and features that UD has, and wanted to give it another try. This time again I wiped before installing, etc., and this time I opted for using SetCPU and a Chevy ulv 1.2 GHz kernel in lieu of the stock kernel and UD governor. Wow, what a difference that made! I could tell right away that the scrolling in the app drawer was much improved, even after removing LP and installing ADW. I then ran the "controversial" Quadrant benchmark, and at first I was only getting into the 1000 range, but I noticed that the ROM was still "settling in" as others have described. After about 30 min. I rebooted and ran the benchmark again, this time I was getting scores in the 1500's and the snappiness that I was accustomed to in UD8 was now present in UD1.0.

I am posting this for those others who had similar issues that posted, and maybe those that had issues and didn't post that if you are having lag issues, install the chevy kernel, disable the built-in governor, configure SetCPU to your desired levels and profile, reboot again and see if that makes a difference. It definitely did with me.

I also had the Google Search issue, and I resolved it by going into Titanium Backup, Uninstalling the Google search there, then you have to restart the phone, make sure that the Google search entry has a line through it, then try to download from the market again. Hopefully that will work for you as well.

So far I agree that it is a great ROM, and I'm glad I gave it another chance!

So far I am very pleased with this ROM. All the little nick knacks really make this my go to ROM.

My only major gripe, just like most people, is the lockscreen sliders. I really wouldn’t mind the positioning if we had the sliders with the little red arrows that are in the preview pictures.

UD8 battery life didn’t seem to be very linear for me. I thought I would be getting great battery life since it would take quite some time to drop in the 40%-100% range... then it would plummet rapidly after getting to 40%. I am only to 60% battery right now, so I am not sure if this is an issue on this ROM as well.

I am not sure if we had the ability to adjust all the brightness levels and thresholds in UD8, but I just noticed this feature and it is ingenious. It's also really nice to be able to considerably lower the dimmest setting.

Another convert. Nice.

But I don't think it's the Chevy kernel, specifically, that helped. I think the problem is the one included w/ the ROM. I swear to god, anybody having the same problems that this dude had needs to follow suit and switcheroo. I tried the stock UD kernel and what-not for about two seconds and experienced the same problems. 5 mins. to install a kernel and set up SetCPU and it's done son.

Some people are having success with the stock stuff. I just wasn't one and it seems to be the most pervasive gripe about this ROM.

ROM's perfect otherwise.

Thanks for the verification...I just wanted to make the point that the kernel, not the ROM may be causing some problems and to at least try another kernel and SetCPU to see if that helps. This ROM has too many nice features not to pursue a successful install. The thing is, it may be more of an issue with how the kernel/rom coexist, because when I was running LFY, I was using the same slayher kernel that comes with this ROM and it was fast also. So there doesn't seem to be a definitive formula for success, other than to try different combinations until your droid is happy!

hi, noob here. i've got my droid 1 rooted finally (used rooting droid 1 regardless of OS version instructions) and then did a nandroid backup (used sirpsychosis 0.99.3b to back up).

now want to do my first custom rom and would like to choose ultimate droid 1.0 to try. i also bought titanium backup pro. and i also bought ROM Manager and i see UDv1.0 listed in ROM manager.

anyway, i can't seem to find instructions on how to get UDv1.0 installed (should i use ROM manager? or do i have to use ROM manager?) can anyone help me with some instructions please? thanks

Since it sounds like you are still on SPRecovery, if you want to use ROM Manager/ClockworkMod, you will need to first:

Flash a Custom Recovery Image

1. Open the ROM Manager app and click on Flash Recovery, choose your phone model and wait for it to finish. (You may need to click Allow if Superuser Permissions pops up).
2. After it says success, you have a custom recovery image and can continue.

Then, DO NOT download ANY blackdroid/ultimate droid roms from ROM Manager - (don't ask ;) just download the link to the .zip in the OP.)

Next, you cannot install this via the ROM Manager GUI (at least I wasn't able to) so you will need to do this:
Flash a Custom ROM

1. Plug in your phone via USB cable and mount the SD card so you can transfer files to it.
2. Copy the ROM’s zip file to a folder that you remember...if you don't have much on your SD card yet, you could just copy to the root, but I like to keep my ROM's in folders to help keep track of them. (Do NOT extract the .zip file, leave it as a .zip file).
3. Unplug the phone from the computer.
4. Reboot into recovery by either opening ROM Manager and clicking on Reboot Recovery, or hold the "x" key while powering on your phone.

5. Once in the custom recovery image, do a Nandroid backup (Sounds like you already did this, but since you now have a different recovery, you should probably do it again.
6. Once the backup is done, click Wipe Data / Factory Reset (three or four times apparently helps).
7. Once the wipe is complete, choose "install zip from sdcard" then browse to your saved .zip file and flash the ROM you put on the sd card.
8. Once it is done, select reboot system now. Enjoy!

You can (and should) choose a different kernel than the one supplied, just to make sure your droid is happy with the kernel you are using. Links to compatible kernels are also in the OP, and you can use the same procedure, minus the wipe/factory reset part to get a custom kernel installed.

Make sure you look into SetCPU as well, as that is mentioned here frequently, so a Google search should suffice there.

Good luck!

Oh, I bastardized this site for the walkthough in case you get stuck, or I missed something:

LED Customizations

Any idea when they are coming back to UD? I have switched to another ROM until we have the ability to change LED notification colors in UD again.

Did you already try the rotary lockscreen? On my phone that relocates the lock buttons to their normal position.
