Unlimited Talk and Text now only $89.99

A buddy of mine who is a Verizon reseller told me that those phones that have browsers built in such as the Env3 texting phone will be required to have the 9.99 data plan. If Verizon pulls that with me, I will be moving my wife to a different provider. I will not pay for something I do not use.

yes, I was going to upgrade my daughter to an enVtouch and was told that I would have to pay a 9.99 data plan, so I went with the free Eris for her line when I got my Droid, and just bit the bullet and got her the full 30 data---she wouldn't be happy if I didn't and she saw me playing with my phone (she's spoiled yes lol)

I'm just calling B.S. on Verizon for this. Yeah, they are lowering prices on some of their plans BUT knowing how many people have Texting phones like the Env3, they've decided to recoup their discounts by forcing a garbage $9.99 plan on everyone. So if I upgrade my wife to the Env4 (if there ever is one) or she loses her phone and I get her another Env3, my bill will go up $10 bucks for a 25MB plan. What garbage. Let me put it this way, they will not force it on me if they want my money at all when it comes to the second line. They will either eat the $9.99 a month OR they will not get the 60 bucks I dish out now when that time comes. I will fight it, trust me.

Not to be a Jerk but the system will not allow you to have these phones activated going forward without a data plan. You can fight it all you wan't however it wont change the fact that the system will not allow us (as a rep, supervisor, Associate Director, Call Center director, or executive inquires) to place the phone on the line without a data plan.

Does your wife have data on her phone? I have the same (700 min) plan as you... but also both my line and my girlfriend's have the $10 (250) text plan added.... I'm at ~$180 a month. (GF has data on hers too.)

My wife no longer has data included on her phone as she has a work bberry that she uses to look stuff up online with when needed.

With the unlimited plan you get the text included for both lines so you would not have to worry about that extra $10 anymore...

So I have everything for my Droid and she has talk and messenging on her phone.
You said you have a discount as well? Maybe this is the difference.... because even if you were to add data to your wife's phone you'd still be $30 cheaper than what I'm paying... So do you have a discount applied? :)

Thankfully my wife has the Dare and did not need the $10 data plan anymore. That said if they tried to force that on us then I would have just cancelled her line and moved her all over to her work's bberry. No sense paying for something she woudl not use.

When I went into the change plan option the phone plans for unlimited talk and text were all still discounted the 20% I get off. For instance the 700 minute plan was not $81 I think. My data plan is $24 as I get 20% off of that too. So my bill breaks out as follows now:

81 - Nationwide unlimited talk and text for 2 lines
24 - Data access for the Droid
8 - Insurance for the Droid

After taxes and fees I am sure it will be closer to 120 but that is still a significant drop from the 158 I have been paying the past 3 months.

i changed my plan this morning. none of the unlimited plans allowed for my corporate discount.

I wonder what is different with my old discount in that I was able to still have it applied???

Though it will be a cold day in Hell before I call VZW and tell them about it. HA HA

EDIT:Attached a screenshot so people dont think I am talking out my ass about the discount...

Other then a money grab what is the reason for this? Why do these phones need a data plan to make calls and text? Or am I completly missing somethign about the phones????

I will be honest three of the huge reasons they are moving to data plans are as follows:

1. When a customer has a data plan they are 40% less likely to leave Verizon, then they are without a data plan.

2. Generates less calls. When a customer has a data plan they tend to call less because they know what to expect on their bill. Instead of using web and wondering how many mb they used this month and calling and complaining about their bill, they get 25 mb which covers most of their usage.

3. It generates revenue. (obviously)

I understand and that is completely your decision. Just setting the correct expectations that threatening your service over the phone, in store, or online wont change the fact. Obviously hate to see you leave Verizon Wireless because I know we are the best wireless carrier in the country, but its your money do what you gotta do.
