[Update] Verizon's New Family Data Plans Begin: It's Called the Share Everything Plan

So it appears, individual plans will remain the same. is that what you got from this?

Kinda, sorta maybe. LOL I am guessing that people will still be able to have a family shared minutes/text plan but add individual tiered data plans. Kinda like they do now.

VZW really dropped the ball with this. If they had given the option for just a shared data plan with a reasonable data cap and cost it would have been great for many. But to surcharge us a premium on each line, make us get everything unlimited and charge out the yazoo for it is way off base.

You know what I find extremely disturbing about this beyond just the greedy price tier? The fact that Verizon shared this with the general public before they bothered to train their customer service and sales reps about it. We tried talking to some of our industry contacts, but they were told to be hush-hush about things. So, to try and get some additional information on this, we called the regular Verizon sales line twice, and in both instances, the sales person on the other end had to "him-haw" around because they got these new plans dumped on them this morning.

They had no idea how to answer our questions regarding these new plans. The only thing they could say was that the documentation appeared to tell them that there were no other plans but these. This leads them to assume that even the individual plans will be done away with. How on earth can a company as huge and profitable as Verizon, possibly think its a good idea to conduct business this way? It makes me shake my head dumbfounded.

This reminds me of the bone-headed move Netflix pulled recently that drove away their customers in waves.

Wow, Verizon is really trying to f people here, especially those grandfathered into their unlimited data seeking to keep it. The fact that they expect people to pay $50 for 1GB of data is beyond comprehension, there is no damn way it costs NEARLY that much for verizon to transmit 1GB of data especially when they treat 3G and 4G data as the same. Im sure the costs behind delivery of data via 4G vs 3G differ especially based on consumption. My bionic goes thru 1GB/month just updating my weather and gmail and some light web browsing, once google play music is streamed to my phone, my phone alone tops 6-7GB/month and I dont even tether. This is ridiculous.

I may be one of the few, but I'm showing that it would actually save us money on our family plan... I'm already capped at 4GB, so I can't cry about Unlimited anymore (but I do wish I still had that ability like most of y'all)... I think this type of plan is geared to benefit the family plans that don't use a lot of data but have more devices... $40/line just to be on the network still sounds steep tho... sounds like a lot of corporate greed to me.

I actually feel kinda bad for all of those CS reps that are getting blind-sided today.

my b if this has been covered in the last 20 pages...but, if you buy/order a phone prior to the 28th (i.e. razr maxx today), are you still able to retain unlimited or is it too late for people that were looking to upgrade?

No you are good till the 28th. You can also preorder the SG3.

I went in three weeks ago when I first got wind of the tiered data and bought a Razr Maxx. I am comfortable with that device for two years.

If you upgrade and make no changes to your contract before the 28th, your contract stays exactly the same for 2 more years. After that all bets are off. It is either upgrade to get a new device and go shared or tiered. Or buy unsubsidized or used to stay the way you are.

thanks guys. just found out the same thing from the vzw rep online.

now the question is, can i really handle a samsung phone or just go with the razr/maxx

I agree that VZW should have everyone trained prior to this rollout but I disagree to characterizing this as being greedy.

Sure its pricey but that was the whole point to generate added revenue streams from current customers. Remember they are a profit making company and shareholders are always ever so demanding. If the collateral PDF is read carefully they are forcing everyone to get unlimited talk/text but limited data. Most of the complaints will come from people like me who have limited talk/text and unlimited data and that is because VZW is trying to split traffic between the 4G/3G nets until they can roll out VoLTE. They won't be able to do that until they have complete coverage so its an offloading to manage network capacity.

My 2 cents

Spoke to a rep, Individual plans are not being forced into this. whew. AND I found out my employer has had a 15% discount for verizon. 5 years dammit, could have been a lot of money saved right there!

Hmmm I just had a thought. Knowing now that I will never renew any of our contracts I think I may just transfer my two available upgrades to my unlimited data lines, pre-order two S3's and turn right around and flip them. Bank the profits for when the time comes to have to buy outright.

This share everything plan might actually work better for me. My hubby has just has a basic phone and I have a the Razr Maxx. I Iike the idea of unlimited messaging and minutes on calls. I actually dont even use up 2G per month but I might just get 4G to have a comfort level. Does anyone know how I can check to see how much Gigs I use per month? I think there is a way to check on my phone but I cant find it.

Yes you can, it's called my Verizon data app widget, you can find it on the app market under Verizon apps, it's been around for quite some time, I use a few of them, like Fios voice to check on the phone calls received and messages on my home land line.
