This is brutal. My wife and I currently pay $142/month for unlimited data and all the minutes/texts that we need. Under the new pricing structure we'd have two devices ($40+$40) and then we'd be forced to use the 6gb plan at minimum ($80) which comes out to over $160. Unbelievable. I'm strongly urging my wife to pre-order a GSIII before June 28th so that we can keep our unlimited for the next two years. After that, we're done with Verizon.

Okay I have to admit my optimistic view didn't pay off. Those sating it is VZW greed were probably right.
Here is my two cents:
1.) I can't believe the pricing structure. (Lose data, costs more!)
2.) No incentive to buy a new phone @ discount
3.) No incentive to add family members
4.) Only reason to stay with VZW is 4G LTE is the fastest!
5.) Only two benefits: free tethering, (but no just eats more data you dont have!) and add a tablet for $10 (but uses more data you dont have).
6.) Why no tierd talk plans? Not everyone needs unlimited talk/text. This is so stupid!
7.) Only benefits VZW unless you are a crazy talker and text-er!
I Recommend EVERYONE call and complain, I will on the way home! BTW 611 is a free call! Light them up!

BTW, my new game plan. Ride out my contract September (skipping my upgrade option as of June 1) keeping my Rezound insured and running as long as I want to stay with VZW. If this doesnt change I will move to T-mobile PAYG or non contract family plan. As I mentioned before, my I moved my Wife in March to the $50 unlimited, she gets 90% coverage that I do and there is a 4G difference. For instance on VZW 4G I can use Google Talk (video chat) to her pretty smoothly. For her on 4G it is very choppy and not usable, she has to be on Wifi. I can live w/o these features and speeds when you are talking about $100 a month difference!
It has been a nice ride VZW, but I think it is coming to an end!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'll try to simplify the whole unlimited data thing:
If you have unlimited data right now, regardless if it is 3g/4g, as long as you upgrade before June 28 (when these Shared Plans go into effect) you will maintain your unlimited data and lock it in for 2 years. After that, upgrading phones by signing a new contract and getting them at the subsidized price will force you off unlimited data. You will need to buy your phones at full retail or get them on ebay/craiglist/etc.

This is correct. The best course of action at this point is to order a GSIII before June 28.
I'd strongly recommend pre-ordering the SIII now. You have the option to extend unlimited data if you pre-order from the VZW website. You will not get forced to a shared plan if you use this route.
No one is being forced into the shared plan. It is an option. Not a very good one but it isn't required. You still have the option to keep your unlimited plans by either doing nothing or upgrading before the 28th. You also have the option to still use individual tired data plans on a family call and text plan. No concrete rates have been released on that but it really shouldn't change.
Just remember folks. No one is forcing you into the shared everything plan. Thank goodness or they wold lose a good chunk of the customers faster than they are already going to.

I just called Verizon and to replicate my plan which right now costs me $174.95 per month, 2 smartphones - unlimited data on both, 2 basic phones, 1400 minutes/month, Friends and Family, Mobile to Mobile, and $5/month texting on one phone, it would cost $230.00 to give me 8GB (and I'll likely come close to that with both phones this month - I'm at 4GB and my billing cycle ends the 22nd, my wife's at .1GB). :blink:

Unless you use your phone for nothing but checking your email (where you could go to the 1GB plan for $50), and you text message out the wazoo (where my 250/month wouldn't work), and you make and receive lots of calls outside your F&F or M2M, this will cost more, without a doubt, and as time wears on and data becomes even more of your usage pattern, this will slowly eat into your mortgage payment.

I agree that Verizon is bordering on price gouging.
But the simple fact is that no one comes close to beating their network. The only time I'm ever without service is in an elevator or the occassional parking garage, and I get 4G LTE in my parents' hometown of less than 1000 people. I can't say that about any other network.
