[Update] Verizon's New Family Data Plans Begin: It's Called the Share Everything Plan

I agree that Verizon is bordering on price gouging.

But the simple fact is that no one comes close to beating their network. The only time I'm ever without service is in an elevator or the occassional parking garage, and I get 4G LTE in my parents' hometown of less than 1000 people. I can't say that about any other network.

Really?? I have no Problem with calling but With Data?? I have problems all the time with no connection and I live in a Big City for heaven sake. My plan was to go basic phones and dump my smartphones... sadly tho they've changed the whole structure . I went to Yosemite National Park and I get No Signal :rofl2:

this new pricing structure is ridiculous... do they think we're idiots? by throwing unlimited talk and text at us they think they can convince us that their data prices are justified?... unlimited texts now a days are almost useless since we can use apps like kakao talk... ebuddy.. etc..

i work at a MetroPCS/Boost/Virgin Mobile store and i get on average at least 2-3 people a day either breaking or leaving their verizon contract... granted these prepaid companies coverage and speed isnt the best... but it seems like people are more than willing to give up their contracts to stop getting bent over the railing by their contract companies... im thinking once these new prices go live and public ill be getting more people switching from their contract to prepaid

i ordered my S3 last week so im good for another 2yrs with my unl data... but im strongly considering a different company after my contact is up

Question...I am currently on my parents plan for the moment (I pay them the cost of my phone) My dad doesn't want to upgrade his phone, and therefore does not need to use an upgrade...Is it possible to use his upgrade for my phone?

You should be able to use the upgrade.

That is the main point of the whole shebang!!! Those are not Verizon's Services so they are going to be more selfish to force you to pay instead of giving us option. Why people just decided to move and not to fight??? Haven't you take the hint for the past few years that Business are taking different approach now? Costumers are no longer King!! Fight! As Companies now are copying each other out and give us lesser competitions in hope that we are getting fenced like Sheeps in the wild!!! Current and new Businesses will not do a thing ... Look at Ebay??? Was so popular because of the no tax and cheaper option... Always like that till the government steps in and force tax to all Internet sales... Double Taxation right??? Then again who cares when so many people in the retail businesses are out of a job!

yeah you use another line's upgrade if there under the same account.. so if your dads upgrade is up right now and hes not going to use it, you can either go online or call 611 and let them know you want to use your dad's line for an upgrade right now and they'll transfer it to your line

I don't get the new plan... I'm paying 110 dollars for two phones, one with unlimited and one with 15Mb / month. I'd have to sign up for the 180 dollar plan for 10GB per month on the new plan. If AT&T drops their tiered pricing I'll be making the jump.

I don't know if this is the same of all types of accounts (business and personal,) but the rep told me that you can continue to upgrade other phones on your account-- and use their upgrades and it will not affect your grandfathered plan. The only way to get rid of the grandfathered plan is if you opt out of it. So basically you could add some dumb phones and then just use those upgrades every two years for your phone. Once again not sure if this is just a business thing.

I did the quick math for my company. 3 smart phones (currently unlimited) + 5 dumb phones. If I go with the 10gb plan, it is $1 more than we pay today...wheee.

Note: This does not consider the new talk/text pricing compared to the old... Nikecar does a great job of this here.

I think VZW is definitely going after the biggest demographic with this as it will help the 4-5 person family that only use data for e-mail/check google/download apps, but on the other hand it is really going to hurt the power users and 1 or 2 line customers who will be paying a lot more for a lot less.

Old Plans
New Plans

2GB for $30

5GB for $50
10GB for $80
1GB for $50
2GB for $60
4GB for $70
6GB for $80
8GB for $90
10GB for $100

Ignoring people on unlimited because this is a bad deal no matter how you look at it:

1 phone who used 2GB was $30, it will be $60
1 phone who used 5GB was $50, it will be $80
1 phone who used 10GB was $80, it will be $100

2 phones who used 2GB each was $60, it will be $70
2 phones who used 5GB each was $100, it will be $100
2 phones who used 10GB each was $160, it will be impossible but limited to $100

3 phones who used 2GB each was $90, it will be $80
3 phones who used 5GB each was $150, it will be impossible but limited to $100
3 phones who used 10GB each was $160, it will be impossible but limited to $100

4 phones who used 2GB each was $120, it will be $90
4 phones who used 5GB each was $2000, it will be impossible but limited to $100
4 phones who used 10GB each was $320, it will be impossible but limited to $100

And of course you can mix and match on the old plans but that is to many iterations and I'm lazy.

So the large plans will definitely see the biggest benefit, but will also be forced into submission on how much data an account can use. Cutting back on data use is about the only course of action for a 4 or 5 device household with anything more than moderate usage.

So with the $40 line charge with the new plan I would be stuck paying about $130 for my line after taxes and fees. I am adding the full cost of the data plan to my line as I am the only one using the data.

Right now we have a 1400 minute plan with unlimited VZW to VZW and 10 Friends, Unlimited Texts and one unlimited data package @ $30.

I believe we pay about $160/month with a work discount. The new plan would stick us with approximately a $240/month bill. This is ridiculous.

Analysts are applauding the move. Hmmm, I think this will be yet another example of where analysts miss the mark very badly. There's really no incentive here to drive new user adoption.

And as for this being accretive by allowing multiple devices, when you look at the data caps people aren't going to be able to ditch home broadband. So the question remains if people will shell out additional money to get data for a tablet. Some will, but I really don't think the market is all that big for people who really need/use tablet data (away from wifi) to shell out all the extra money this plan entails.

I don't think that's true. They would never get people off the unlimited. To your point about grandfathering. That is a courtesy extended by Verizon. Every time you upgrade your phone and take advantage of special pricing you are signing a new contract with new terms. If you want to keep your existing terms you have to keep your existing phone or buy a phone full price. CNET explains how you can keep Unlimited and it ain't pretty.
