Currently, I'm the only one using smartphone with unlimited 3G data plan and 3 other family members have feature phones. It costs around $170 every month. If I were to change to feature phone (totaling 4 feature phones), how does the pricing work? Do we still have to pay $50 for the unlimited voice and unlimited msg + 1GB data? or is there alternative? because AT&T's plan sounds so much more attractive right now...
You sure about that, does that include taxes and fees.

So currently this is what you have? $100 Minutes plan + $30 req data plan + $30 per line (3 additional phones). If you still have Unlimited data and available upgrade, then you may utilize that to get new phone at subsidized price. This way you can enjoy unlimited data with faster phone for the foreseeable future.
Verizon now have new Structure plan so the old plan gone to the trash bin quick.
If you are willing to drop your Unlimited data and get their Subsidized phones x4 this is likely what will happen to you.
1. 4x $30 Upgrade Fees. (one time)
2. 1x $40 smartphone fee.
3. 3x $30 Basicphone fee.
4. $50 1GB plan for your phone only.
So this will amount you (one time w/o the price of the phone) $300/ month. Monthly payment for your next 2 years contract should be around $180+tax. I wonder if your $170 is already with tax as the new plan should cost you $20 more/month.
once you change your CURRENT plan, may it be you or your better half, your unlimited is GONE, so if you and she want to stay on unlimited do not change anything, since she is VRZ and so are you, why would you want to change, unless you will end up picking up the TAB on her unlimited data package family plan:icon_ devil:
OK, please help me understand what my options are. Here's my plan:
5 phones, 3 smart, 2 dumb.
Primary line: droid2 --3g unlimited data (ready for upgrade)
2nd smart-- droid2 -- 3g unlimited data (not eligible for upgrade)
3rd smart-- droid razr--4g 4gb data (just purchased 12/11)
4th dumb-- (ready for upgrade)
5th dumb-- (not ready for upgrade)
From what I'm reading it sounds like I should upgrade the primary line and switch the upgrade from #4 phone to #2 phone to upgrade it also so both are 4g phones on unlimited plan. Does that sound right?
Here's my next question--when the dumb phone comes up for upgrade if we upgrade with a discounted dumb phone will it force the entire plan to the new family plan with limited data?
Is that new? Everything I'm reading on the Verizon forums and places say since I'm on the same account he could just transfer upgrade..
and when I logged into his account, there was a button there that said transfer upgrade..didn't press it yet, cause I have to make sure It's ok with him lol
lol nope, wrong math... and too many beers. $260 + $20 give or take for fees and taxes, divide that by 3 $93 yup same.. and thats not even including my 22% discount i get... so idk how they will add that in. but i should roughly pay the same.
I see but if I(only smartphone user in the family) were to drop the smartphone and use feature phone, how would that affect the monthly plan?
I guess I'm one of the few that will save money on this plan. My wife and I barely use any data because we're always on wifi. 3g is weak where I live and 4g is nonexistent. We never come close to 500 mb let alone 1gb. But I also understand it's really lousy for the majority of people in here. Maybe the uproar will cause VZ to back track. Thankfully I just signed a new contract with my Rezound. My wife isn't due for an upgrade until December so we'll see what happens then. Right now she's happy with my old dinc2.

Yes to the first part. If you wait to upgrade those two phones, you will have to pay full price to keep unlimited our pay subsidized price and be forced into family share plan.
For the second question, I don't know if this had been ironed out yet but I would assumed that if you are upgrading dumb a dumb phone to another dumb phone, if the phone does not require a data package, you should not be forced into the share plan. The family share plan should only apply when subsidizing a smart phone. Again, just my best guess and it could be wrong.

Would it still be unlimited voice and message? You just need to drop that $50 from the calculation and Substract $10 from it ($30 basic compare to $40 Smartphone fee) so ~$120+tax
