[Update] Verizon's New Family Data Plans Begin: It's Called the Share Everything Plan

Just curious, is anyone else planning on doing what I am? I have a Droid X which sucks. I pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S3 because well, I don't have a choice if I want my unlimited data. I am planning on not even opening it. Then, when the Motorola Droid Razr HD comes out, selling my New in box Galaxy S3 on ebay and buying the Razr HD on ebay at a severely discounted price as I am no longer paying full price for it. I just have to hope retail price on the S3 and Razr HD are the same.

Oh, I also forgot. Current plan: 1 smartphone, 2 regular - price just over $100 with discounts. Should I go to this stupid new plan, I lost my unlimited data and pay $70 more... Now, Verizon did tell me I don't have to switch, I can just pay the same amount I am now for 2gbs of data... Full price phones here I come. Glad I know how to ebay!

Many people are doing the same. I posted my intentions of this on the first day. But with so many people doing the same it looks like the secondary market is gonna be flooded with brand new SIII's. Kinda wish I had grabbed two Maxx's over the weekend when they were on sale and flipped those instead.

And when it comes time to sell check out swappa. Much better and cheaper than ebay for selling phones and tablets.

With my 2 lines I would about break even with the new plans even taking my talk and text discount into account. Reason for this is the additional $30 I spend a month for the hotspot so I can do work on the train (Amtrak's wifi is WEAK). RIght now I pay 175 a month which 155 or so of that being the actual cost of my plan and the rest is taxes.

You do realize the new plan includes mobile hotspot right? One of the reasons the plan costs so much more to the rest of us.

Of course I am which is why my move is priced as such. Hotspot is only included to make people bump up to higher tiers of data IMHO. The costs for the data were going to be what they are no matter what. It was added in an attempt to soften the blow.

You are purchasing CDMA phone. A secure phone, but lack of value (GSM is more attracting worldwide). 2 years are a long time, and there will always be changes. I will have to buy a high value phone designed for Verizon in hope to keep unlimited data (All depends on the old phone situation ofc). It is normal right that you expect some longevity in paying some amount of money for it? We all also know that in order to own a smartphone, we must apply data charges to it. Single data charge would cost a user $30 for 2 GB (remember current users are not required to move to the new share plan, yet). Why would I pay $500 worth of phone, if I can only be happy using it for few months? Verizon can at any time send me a letter to force me to comply by paying 2GB for $30 from then on. With that kinda situation, I am basically end up with a brick phone (for I vehemently refuse to accept to their new condition). Why would I pay full retail then? Knowing that tiered data users can still purchase phone at a subsidized price.

I understand where you are coming from in that you can't take your phone to another carrier so your stuck with it. It was the brick comment that threw me off. I bought the new Razr Maxx gambling that my plan will hold out for 2 more years. Wonder if they change the terms if they have to let you out without the cancellation fees etc?

If they refuse to honor your plan throughout the rest of your contract term, then they have to offer you a free way out. In other words, you accept the new plan terms or they let you out without an ETF.

I wonder how they will treat it with everything going on now though. For instance I am on a family plan with my second line just upgrading. I "could" remain on that contract but if I try to upgrade my phone July 8th when I come up then I would have to move to the new plan OR tier the data on my line but technically keep the plan in tact at least for the second line. I wonder if I woudl have to pay an ETF to get both lines off since they woudl force a change on one line and technically not allow me to remain as I am now...

Shame on me for not reading all 786 posts to see if my question has already been answered, but when I pre ordered my gsiii online, it took me through the entire list of options I was agreeing to. This included my txt allotment and phone insurance. When looking at the plan I was on, it still showed me unlimited data like the plan I was on. It did show show the new plan options, but it preselected my oldlhunlimited data plan. Will I then still keep that, our are the forcing me to go to the tiered plan soon? I can foresee that if Verizon breaks thecontract people signed up for they would sue?

You wouldn't have to read all whatever amount of posts to find the answer to this. It is the most commonly asked question about the new plan and is posted several places the forum and on just about every tech site out there.

If you upgraded now you will keep your unlimited plan. They can't take that away. After your contract is up who knows.

 yeah sorry for the confusion. I actually edited that post this morning :p as I was so tired... I barely remember what I posted :rofl2: Yeah brick phone usually a term used for those that failed @ rooting. I just basically stole that term with my own situation as I can't use smartphone without data plan. I will end up losing money. If you are under month to month, then there is no such thing as Cancellation fees. Both parties can feel free to widen their options following individual conditions (pros vs cons). I can see a lawsuit to stop Verizon changing my plan after the 2 years contract (2014), but lawsuit is a mess!

Do you have any unlimited data on your smartphone? If not, why worry? What you can do is this. Let your phone w/o unlimited data to runs out of its contract (seems to me July 8th?) You don't have to pay any fees once you entered Month to Month. You can pull that phone out of your family plan and create individual line for it. New plan is designed for Talk and text. If your old plan is not under 1000 Minutes, then the new plan is the way to go. I am stuck to the gut with my old plan :happy3: . I only pay $160 for 5 phones :icon_ peace:. Once I offloaded my smartphones, I can use subsidized (free) dumb phones and reduce my monthly to $100 .

How do you flip a phone? (I know what the term means) my contact says if I change my phone number or revive thurs phone from my account I have to pay the subsidy discount back to them. (both my phone from Amazon and NewEgg) I love penny deals (although on this phone I jumped in too early it was $19.99 when I bought it and $0.01 a couple of weeks later)

I have not found a search function from tapatalk, any advice to locate it would be beneficial, thanks. As I hate having to navigate the forums from my mobile browser, too much java slows things down.
