[Update] Verizon's New Family Data Plans Begin: It's Called the Share Everything Plan

Just realized, now that all the dust has settled, that I have a "free" upgrade to use before the 28th. My mom has been month to month for almost two years (she's a secondary line on my plan) and she has no interest in a smartphone, and doesn't like any of the feature phones they offer. I'm not in the market for a new phone right now, especially with ICS running on my Bionic. What would you guys suggest? Let the upgrade go? Transfer it to my line, get a smartphone and flip it?

I mean I know I'll have the upgrade after the 28th, but to use it would mean losing unlimited data, obviously.

I wouldn't let it go. If anything, buy something and flip it. If you preorder the S3, you don't get charged til it ships, but you lock in the contract.

"Others were given additional stipulations (i.e. NO iPhone, NO Razr Maxx)." Well.... that's such a Nazi rep  (I met a few, so ikr :icon_evil:) .. BUTTTT "People have had mixed success using an early upgrade on a Pre-ordered S3." That is the glimmer of hope he can aim for... Nothing to lose anyways as he worked his (you know what) off by asking multiple reps to get variety of feedbacks. :yahoo:

I know, it's crazy. Well, if first you don't succeed, call and call again...

Switch the upgrade to your phone, order the upgrade then you can keep whichever phone you want activated on your line and even switch back and forth if you want.

Well, we can't nickle and dime like that as well :p. That would be a headache! :rofl2: I know tho that it is kinda mind boggling once you know that Verizon are doing $300 for 2 years thing  . Just remember, I believe you are one of the users who will benefit by using Unlimited Data. 10GB should costs you $100 and every 1GB overage is an additional $10, is that still not enough to give you a return even though you may need to purchase full price phone?

You said you needed to keep it below $150-160? 10GB of data should cost you ($40*2 + $100) $180 a month, so that should be $20- $30 savings (not include overage fee if you use beyond 10GB). I believe that buying retail phone @ $500 still be beneficial to you.

- I'm kinda confused with your second one tho. Verizon stores are willing to give you an early upgrade but not with costco? If so, your main concern is that return policy that Costco offer 90 days while Verizon only offer 14 days? If Verizon store reps are saying they are willing to give you an upgrade, why haven't you utilize that by pre-ordering SGS3 instead of getting the available phone in store first? You can lock in your contract to new 2 years contract, and like tisdroid said, it should get you 14 days once your phone arrived.

My situation is muddled since I have the promo discount on data. I pay 175 a month for unlimited data on my 2 lines and an unlimited hot spot. With my corp discount to get 10GB I woudl be at 160 before taxes so pretty much break even at around 175 in terms of monthy spend BUT I would have to now share 10GB across my 2 lines and hotspot. I use anywhere from 6-15GB right now since I have wifi at home. Now I do pay for the added hotspot so I dont want anyone throwing me into the illegal tether group....

The second part is muddled due to how Verizon uses their systems. I could upgrade to an existing phone in their line up on the phone with a Verizon rep to a phon ein their current lineup (released). I woudl have 14 days to return that should I wish but that time frame woudl not leave enough days to get the GSIII. I can not preorder the GSIII due to the date being in their one system that they can not modify. They could only adjust a price on a current phone. I tried to argue that I could order the other one online using the same system so why could they not adjust down the GSIII price but for some reason they could not. I wager they have been instructed to so as to force us to get onto new plans. IF they could have changed the date in the computer then third party sellers like Costco would be able to upgrade me and then I woudl have their 90 day return policy. As is that was not possible.

:icon_eek::icon_eek: ICS on Bionic? OTA or Rooted? I'm still waiting for mine (razr maxx) :noupstoday01:.

Anyways here is a song for you :D:

If you're happy (with Bionic) and you know it, :clap:If you're paying (for the upgrade) and you know it, :clap:If you can sell it and you know it,And you really want to know it,If you make profit and you know it,

"I pay 175 a month for unlimited data on my 2 lines and an unlimited hot spot." ($69.99 + $30 for First phone + $40 for second line + $30 Hot Spot Fee (your "burden" isn't it? :D) Why can't you get your 20% corp discount on here as well? AFAIK, Corp discount works on First line + accessory ofc.

"
I use anywhere from 6-15GB right now since I have wifi at home." :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek: That's alot :rofl2: still ... but again user preferences varies.

"Now I do pay for the added hotspot so I dont want anyone throwing me into the illegal tether group...." The Evil Stigma of that :icon_evil: ... But Monkey See... Monkey Do... my friend :)... As long as you don't gloat your massive usage... then erm erm you know :happy3:.

Lastly, yeah that's the trick for them lol... save every penny they can..... Customer Service my *beep* :icon_ nana:. Anyways Get Razr Maxx (cheap and not bad to own) and sell it maybe? Really... get your hopes up on flooding SGS3 :rofl2: Always be grateful I guess that they still letting you do an early upgrade :icon_ peace:.

I ask the opinion of the good people here at Droid Forums: Do I scrounge up some change and call in some last minute favors to lock myself in for that SGS3 preorder with unlimited data intact, or do I save up my own hard earned cash, buy an Unlocked GNex and go to T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan?

Unlocked Gnex? What's for as it still is a CDMA phone (GSM phones don't work on Verizon or Sprint). Can you get it less than $300? T-Mobile prepaid is nice... but here is the main thing to consider "we haven't get the boot yet!" (Unlimited users). I have 3 scenarios to take.

1. I quit once my 2 years are up, so I don't take stupid early termination penalty fees.
2. I quit once my phone broke.
3. I quit just cuz they told me I have to quit :rofl2: .

I meant buy an unlocked GSM one directly from Google to use with T-Mobile~

Ahhh ok... I gotcha! This is what I have in mind since this whole rumour started.

1. I don't talk alot... Well, I do  just not focused on cellphone. That T-Mobile helps me alot as they are cheap to get as long as I get my own phone, While with Verizon, They just don't care to adjust their price for Unlimited users after June 28.

2. (If and only If I'm not Unlimited any longer) 5GB throttle afterward is way no-brainer than the fake feel good factor created by Verizon about Twice your data event. That twice the data event that could raise 2GB to 4GB (same amount of money with T-Mo+ talking mins), still can cost you more money of about $10/gb.

3. Verizon are known for their Telecommunication Network that so vast in United States. I must take that into consideration if I travel alot. That's why I rather carry 2 phones. (basic phone based on Verizon Network and T-Mo for Data and emergency rollover minutes would be nice to go along with it :happy3:). In the end, my monthly payment is actually reduced than any new plans that Verizon have offered so far.

A friend of mine switched this morning; she told me she is saving $40 per month. It seems like this plan only saves you $ if you were on a tiered data plan.

Looks like my bill will be going up by quite a bit. We currently have one smartphone (unlimited data, I use anywhere from 3gb to 5gb a month), three basic phones, unlimited text messaging and share 700 minutes (we use maybe 50 a month). Current bill before taxes, surcharges and all that stuff s $131.14. According to the chart on the first post, it will go up to $200 with the 4gb plan ($40+$30+$30+$30+$70).

I read through most of this thread and have a question. If it was covered, I apologize. But if you opt for a 6gb plan, but only use 2gb are you still charged for the 6gb's. They'll sure charge you for the extra data if you go over, but will they not charge you if you stay under? My guess is no.

Of course they'll charge you. If you have a 1400 minute plan and only use 650, do they only charge you for the 700 minute plan? No. So they'll bill you for the 6 GB no matter how little you use.

Big portions of this whole new plan was to satisfy those under tiered data plan. Like someone said here Verizon will charge you for your plan, for they don't care if you go under your allocated amount (Data/Minutes). Sadly, they have wide open eyes if you go beyond your plan tho :D. I also believe that since the introduction of their so called Tiered Data, more people used larger data usage than when it used to be Unlimited. Why? We are entitled to what we pay for. Hence, we had tiered minutes that can be shared into family plan. I absolutely believe that many new customers since July 2011 felt bewildered at how they paid $30 for that certain 2/4 GB/s, yet some family member(s) only used miniscule amount of it. Well then why can't we share it? Since I know/need to use that available data, then why can't I relocate that data like our minutes? Very reasonable suggestion doesn't it? Verizon oth are left reeling with the thought of giving us 8GB or more as that could burdened them more and slash the profit that they should've get from penalty. They're also listening at how many people used tiny amount of minutes and used huge data bandwith. So a year later they come up with a solution, they forced -the way it used to be price at- Unlimited minutes and text to those who don't even need it, and start really low by charging $50 for just 1GB. Ridiculous really and btw Simplicity my arse! Are we really that stupid ?
