***Updated*** Easy Root Available. 3 step process

I appear to be rooted :) Ran Fix Permissions, root requested and granted! Here are my notes going through the root process and what I gleaned from reading 20 pages in this thread:

Prep work-
1. download the RAR file containing Rooter.exe and other files, unzip anywhere on

your HD. If you have a 64bit system there is another download with replacement

files. Do not unzip the ZIP files that are inside the RAR.

2. download and install ADB for Dummies
3. Download and install HTC sync and reboot your PC

on your Thunderbolt, disable the wifi, turn off Fast Boot and enable USB debugging

Now plug in your phone to the PC
Choose Charge Only when prompted
Launch Rooter.exe from your PC
In Rooter.exe click Step 1

**Refer to PDF attached in first post**

Tips:

once you have successfully completed Step 1 never repeat. The key is SUCCESSFULLY.

You may have to do it more than once (I did). If your phone doesn't reboot, step 1

didn't take. Restart Rooter.exe and run again

To skip phone setup just keep hitting next or skip:

If you see 'No Image or wrong image' on Step 1 checking stage, just wait and it

will eventually keep going.

If you see "No Image or wrong image' on Step 2 checking stage, just wait and it

will eventually keep going.

Debug must be re-enabled everytime the phone reboots.
You may need to restart the Rooter.exe for each step
If Rooter says your device is offline after a reboot. Unplug your phone and plug

it back in.

On Step 3 there was no delay, it instantly said I was rooted in Rooter.exe
I ran the step again to make sure, same thing. I opened Rom Manager and ran Fix

Permissions successfully.

After litterally the sixth time, I restarted the Rooter.exe process, clicked Step 3 twice, after the final reboot - I know have root. Was about to do the manual method...not a big deal for me but finding time today because I have a ton to do would've been rough. Thanks for the post.

I am a noob and trying to root my thunderbolt but keep running into a problem. I connect the phone start rooter and when i click step one it seems like everything is working it sees the phone but does not push anything into the phone. I takes a second then says choose bootloader ect....on rooter like it went through. i thought it was supposed to take a few mins. on the phone it comes up to the bootloader screen i choose it it goes to another screen for fast boot. never did it ever say update. so i choose power down and started the phone up again tried all over and same thing. what am i doing wrong.

i just read a couple posts up the rar file should have rooter.exe and other files the one i downloaded only had rooter.exe in it. is that the problem?

@RonB - Im assuming your still on step one correct?

Is HTC Sync installed? Does the PC recognize the device when you plug it in?

Did you install ADB for dummies?

Are you on windows 64 bit? If so there are special files for 64 bit versions of windows.

Before you start is wifi off?

You need to set the phone to CHARGE ONLY when plug it in.

Is the phone set to USB Debugging mode?

i have htc sync and it sees the phone- i have adb for dummies installed-i have a 32 bit system-wifi is off-debugging on- charge only
i am still in step one
i guess i just downloaded the updated rooter.exe not the whole rar.
is there any other place to get the complete rar except megaupload? i tried twice and it say it can not find a file and stops downloading every time. is there any direct link. thanks.

So when you're in the Bootloader menu and you select Bootloader to extract the files it skips the scanning process and just reboots?

[Updated: 3/26]Easyroot + S-Off [Version 1.6.3.11] - xda-developers

Under the downloads section.

Sometimes it will scan and just says image not available. It never rebooted. There was an option power down so I choose that then powered up the phone again. I am going to download the complete file when I get home that should take care of everything

Obviously they are not not my tips but its everything I gleaned from you after reading this thread. I am a Helpdesk Support specialist and train users as well. Part of my job is writing detailed guides and how-tos....so I get a little anal about covering every little step. I have learned what is obvious to me is not obvious to everyone else.

Thanks for your ongoing patience and help for all of us!

If the megauploads isn't working I can place the RAR file in my dropbox for people (even better if you will use my referral link and INSTALL the DB software and help me get more free space) or I can put it on my hosts server at least until it starts eating up my bandwidth.

@Dae - Good tips for sure, and congrats on getting it rooted!!!
