***Updated*** Easy Root Available. 3 step process

My problem is htc sync does not see my phone when i connect it to my computer. Is that a problem or can i still go through with the root.

Several times. What really irks me is that with my friends cable in work it worked fine but now i have gone through 4 others and none will let me connect to htc sync. It will connect to the computer and charge the phone fine just not sync. I have even uninstalled sync from the phone and plugged it back in the computer same thing.

When i connect and look in the computer it comes up as another cd drive and a removable disk drive. Is is supposed to do that?

Eventually when the phone is hooked up to the computer an autoplay windoe will pop up for the verizon cd drive and you can choose install drivers but when you click it it just freezes and goes into not responding.

have you rebooted your computer?

i have restarted my computer. still no luck. I left the phone hooked up to the computer and maybe after 45 mins if finally linked up with sync. So i tried unplugging it and plugging it back in still says no device. The computer sees it just not sync. Should I root it or not until i fix this sync problem.

Most basic thing... On the usb connection menu, are you selecting htc sync then done?

do you have usb debugging checked on your phone..I think you are go to go. You should go this route for rooting [Procedure] How to Root the Thunderbolt with ADB (Windows) - Android Forums

This method above is the easiest way just copy and paste...also really good directions!

This is frustrating me so much. Now that i have everything downloaded and ready to go the computer sees the phone but when i open htc sync it does not see the phone. I tried several times to uninstall htc sync and the driver from the computer and reinstall them with no luck. It just so happened that i took my computer to work yesterday and borrowed my friends cable to hook up the phone to the computer and it work perfect but now that i am home it will not work at all. I went to verizon and got a new cable that didnt help. Went to radio shack bought a new cable that didnt work. and i tried an lg able i had no help. when i open htc sync on the computer it sees the phone for a second then not and same thing with the phone says connected then not. I dont want to root till htc sync works in fear of bricking my phone. does anyone have any clue what is going on?

Are the working computer and non working computer running to different operating systems. That would be my guess as to why one computer could see it and the other couldn't.

It was not two different computers. I have been using the same computer the whole time, my laptop. Just tried to root did not go through same thing as before- pushes for a second then goes to the next screen- nothing happens on the phone. Think i might take the phone back to verizon and see if i can get another one or something.

When i plug my phone in and put it on charge only a bubble pops up and says HTC sync port of my adr6400l is not responding. Is that normal just because i choose charge only?

hello,im guessing im rooted,can use fix permissions ,have su,evrything seems good,except i cant boot into recovery or make a backup,if i do the pwr vol down into recovey the boolloader starts to redo step 2 on its own,what could be wrong??
