[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

i've been telling my friends here to do it but they haven't. their loss.

I somewhat disagree :p I believe they are smart! Or in other word of Mr. Charlie Sheen " WINNING!" :rofl2: . TBH, screw Verizon's fear mongering, and in this time to save kinda economy, $300+tax ain't dirt cheap either to replace a fine working current phone. DancingNexus

Apparently Verizon is also changing their policy effective June 28th that if you do an AOL, you cannot keep unlimited data and have to switch to plans that are effective at the time of the AOL.

I've talked to a few who told me that unlimited was never going away. So yeah, definitely some clueless ones out there. I wasn't able to pre-order the S3 yesterday or get the online price for any of the phones since I did an early upgrade, so I had to pay $199 for the Rezound.

You should be able to keep the unlimited as long as you don't change anything on your plan or get a phone for a subsidized price. I wasn't sure if I believed that or not, so I went ahead and called loyalty to get upgraded early.

I can't hold my laughter at that... :rofl2: Verizon are such a Looney Tunes! I do hope AOL here meant for Assumption of Liability . I experienced this myself last July of 2011. I did AOL before July started to be grandfathered in Unlimited data (and not be forced/fear mongered into tiered data once new rule began), or I will lose it once I change the account holder (Basically what you wrote but a year ago :D). If they said that a year ago, doesn't it sound foolish at how they can say it again? :rofl2:

Two days left before D Day (end of Unlimited Data upgrades) anyone going to make the plunge?

It's not the end of unlimited data upgrades, you ca still upgrade and keep your current unlimited data plan, you just have to buy phone at retail cost, or eBay craigslist, they don't care where you buy your phone or at what price.

Wow, you must be new here, and you are wrong, do some reading up on this before posting false information.

What if I upgraded in Feb?

You will lose your unlimited data plan if u upgrade in Feb. Your only option in Feb to keep ur unlimited is buy a phone at retail cost from big red or as others have stated via ebay, craigslist, etc....

You will just have to go buy the phone outright " not subsidized from Verizon", just get any phone you want and just ADD it to your existing account, you will no longer be locked down and be on a month to month payment plan. At the moment I am on unlimited data and on a month to month payment plan, I have an upgrade available but no reason to use it and be tied down for another two years, as I am really happy with my current smartphone.

Who said they would have gotten a 300 phone?

One actually needs a new phone. Heck, the rezound is going for 80.

So they're going to add the retail cost of both my phones on a bill sometime soon?

Only if you want them to do it that way. They will not bill your account for any phones at retail unless u want them to. Even still I believe you get up to $400 to bill anything to ur account. Keep in mind these phones cost about $650 at retail. If ur talking about a iphone then ur looking at about $800 at retail.

Lets say I sell my Bionic & iPhone via Ebay or craigslist then turn around and buy 2 of the same phone. Can I get those activated & keep unlimited? I honestly cant afford 2 phones @ retail price

Oh Maybe the confusion started at the beginning of the second sentence where I need to put (IMO) on it :p . Cuz same thing can be applied to why should I get HTC Rezound? The real matter is users preferences are different to one another. :)

e.g. I had a new Bionic as soon as they're introduced. But since I had few problems with it, they sent me a refurb phone (under a year of purchase). I loathe refurb phone! Once Razr Maxx available, I jumped the gun and purchased it. Not all should follow my step tho. There are always two or more sides in taking actions ... "One actually needs a new phone" VS "One actually needs a working phone". :icon_ rocker:
