[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

You will lose unlimited on all lines if you get the phone at a subsidized price. You will have to choose a family share data plan where your data limit is shared on all the phones in your plan.

You are wrong, Verizon is NOT, for the thousand time they are not forcing anyone of their current contracts, may it be a single user or family plan, once you do an UPGRADE AT SUBSIDIZED PRICE, only then will you be moved to the new TIERED DATA FAMILY PLAN, you can continue on a month to month payment plan after your current contract runs out and still remain on your current plan, for as long as they are going to offer it, now if you want a NEW PHONE AT SUBSIDIZED $, your old contract will be voided. This has been discussed in these forums at least a thousand times.

Huh? I experienced this myself last year as I did AOL (Jseah main pt) . The manager basically told me that I'll be forced to move my Unlimited plans to tiered data after July 2011. A.K.A No more Unlimited DATA! Please Remember there are Varieties of why an individual do an AOL of their current account. Doing AOL is up to Individual choice, for that why Verizon will force you to the available plan at that time. I am correct in this matter. Go ahead and try do an AOL, let's see if Verizon allow you to keep your unlimited :icon_evil:. The only sense of Verizon "not forcing" you out if your contract is inert. And I am also correct in telling the other individual that your old plan can still be moved to Tiered Data plan as she's a current costumer. New Customers after June 28th Can Not get Tiered Data any longer (as a family plan) and must use Share New Family Plan. So she was right that she still can get tiered data plan if so she choose. Any changes to your current contract will void your Unlimited data.

Clarification : Regardless of June 28, OLD Contracts can have 2 Choice. Tiered Data (an individual get 2gb @ $30) or Shared Data plan (1gb share across your family plan $50)

New/ Old Customers who move to their own contract will no longer get Tiered Data as a family plan after June 28. Share Everything plan will be the sole option.

That's what I thought. People keep saying "Verizon isn't voiding anyone's contract. You'll have unlimited data until your current contract expires". But in this case, upgrading one of my lines with a subsidized phone WILL void the contract on my other three lines.

Another Clarification: Jseah, VoodooCC, and Tismydroid all have different issue regarding this ... so don't get confused.

Jseah: Was talking about what I did... changing the current Plan owner from A to B. As of July 2011, All AOL will immediately be on tiered data (I have to lose all of my Unlimited). Verizon will not care even if that "B" was under "A" beforehand. Verizon will count that "B" As new customer. I expect the same after June 28 that Unlimited Users will be move to share everything plan as Verizon count them as new Customer. Before June 28th, that Person can do AOL and also will lose Unlimited data, this time tho, Verizon will give you 2 options Tiered data or Share everything New Plan.

VoodooCC: To be honest it is unclear of what a customer can do and the website still updating about that chance of loophole in transfer upgrades from others to your Tiered data phone. Please check this website for further updates. How will Verizon's share everything plans affect you? | Mobile - CNET News

"Verizon says it won't force any of its subscribers into a plan that they don't want. When it comes to the feature phones, you can keep your existing plans. And when it's time to upgrade your phone, you can upgrade and still either get your phone for free or pay a much reduced price. In fact, any customer who wants to keep his existing plan can keep it and get the phone subsidy, except for customers with unlimited data plans. Those customers will have to change their plans when they upgrade if they want a discounted phone. Or they can pay full price for the phone and keep the unlimited data plan."

I think she's available for a question to this matter
:). Ask her if you can keep your current contract and add line (smartphone in this case) later (tiered data ofc) and still maintain your old contract as long as you don't upgrade your unlimited phone.

Or Verizon are forcing you to stay constant with your current contract (in other word, any modifications to it will void and move all your unlimited smartphones to Tiered data plan) after june 28 in order for you to keep the old plan as you have 2 unlimited data in it.

As for Tismydroid,

Tismydroid was talking about getting the
son out of the current contract and make a new one in hope to keep Unlimited data. He (son) Cant. The son can get tiered data available tho before June 28 as after June 28, his only options are either Individual plan or Share everything plan.

I think were the confusion comes in is with those on a family plan now with unlimited data.

For instance, I have 4 lines, all with unlimited data. The first line to be eligible for an upgrade will be in August. If I want to upgrade that line with a subsidised phone I understand that I will lose unlimited data on that line. The question is: What does that do to the OTHER lines on my plan? Can I have 1 line with tiered data and 3 with unlimited data on the same family plan?

It automatically puts those other lines in the new shared data plan including yours, all your lines are tied down to one plan. You can not change one without changing the others. Unless of course you buy the phone outright and just add it to your current plan, that goes for all the phones on your plan.

Here is the article....the writer said that they have confirmed with Verizon (section in bold) that this is happening.

Verizon Will Ban Unlimited Data Plan Transfers on Thursday | PhoneNews.com

Don’t die! Your family will lose unlimited data, if you do. When Verizon Wireless shut off unlimited data plans, PhoneNews.com was the first major member of the mobile media to tout that you could still get one — by taking over someone else’s account.
When the unlimited data plan shutoff first occurred, many were still unaware of the value of these plans down the road. Since even a 3G smartphone with unlimited data can be transformed into an unthrottled, uncapped 4G LTE smartphone with a simple handset swap… obviously, this is of interest to the tech-savvy.
The process, known as an Assumption of Liability, is not new in the industry. It was first created to allow customers to take over a plan if a family member registered on the account passed away. Later it was expanded to allow customers to hand off their plan to someone else, and avoid paying an early termination fee.
But today, it has become an attractive option to lock in unlimited data. Verizon appears to not be happy about that, and appears to have picked the same day as rolling out Verizon’s shared data plans to close it off.
Verizon Wireless has confirmed to PhoneNews.com that, effective June 28, Assumptions of Liability will be stripped of unlimited data plan codes during the account transfer. New customers receiving the account will be required to select from Verizon’s metered data plan add-ons for legacy Nationwide and America’s Choice II accounts, or switch to a new Share Everything plan.
The main problem, is that this will negatively impact those who suffer a loss in the family. If someone passes away, say a husband, the surviving widow can no longer keep the same plan terms. Worse, a customer cannot port out without an assumption of liability. This creates an awful Catch-22 potential for families looking to keep their phone numbers; either accept massively higher bills under Share Everything, or pay massively high Early Termination Fees to port out.
For many, the move is seen as unsurprising. Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo stated that “all customers” would be forced onto a Share Everything plan once they went into effect, and upgraded devices. Verizon quickly clarified that customers who waived handset subsidies would still be permitted to keep their unlimited data plans, even when migrating from a 3G smartphone, such as an iPhone 4/4S, to a future LTE smartphone.
The carrier does still have economical unlimited data options. As we reported yesterday, Straight Talk will soon begin offering an LG Enlighten, its second Android smartphone, on a $45 unlimited plan powered by Verizon Wireless. However, evidence indicates that the plan is relatively not unlimited, and faces a “soft cap” of around 4 GB per month of data.
Grandfathered customers on Verizon Wireless proper continue to enjoy truly unlimited, unthrottled 4G LTE data, even on alternative devices. 3G smartphone owners (again, such as iPhone 4/4S) have faced throttling, but only when the Verizon Wireless network is impacted. For now, Verizon’s workaround for throttling in 3G markets, is to upgrade to a 4G LTE smartphone, which is unthrottled even on 3G CDMA.
Certainly this change will have customers rushing to Craigslist to quickly try to lock in a change before the deadline. 4G LTE grandfathered data plans, such as AT&T’s coveted unlimited iPad data plan, have been sold for well over a thousand dollars on eBay… device not included.
Verizon Wireless defended the lack of a specific mention of this change, citing that they have said all along that Share Everything plans will apply to all new customers. For those suffering the loss of a family member, and use a Verizon unlimited data plan, it will be adding insult to injury that they may be forced off their plans.
We’ve followed up with Verizon Wireless, and we’re checking to see back if there will be some exception crafted for losses in the family. However, we doubt it.

This is for VoodooCC as that your case really need a wait from Verizon. What others said really just  as there are no response from Verizon for your case.

Basic Summary: "The last question that we are seeking an answer on has to do with accounts that have multiple lines and upgrades at different times. What would happen if one of those lines uses an upgrade with Share Everything live? Does that force the entire account onto Share Everything or will just that single line move onto it? We have this question into Verizon already and are hoping to have something official back soon. Stay with us" Site is updated as of June 13, 2012.

I think this may clear it up. This is from Verizon's own website at

Share Everything Plan: Unlimited Talk & Text with Shared Data.

I have an unlimited data plan on my account. Do I need to change it?

You're not required to move to Share Everything but if you do, unlimited data will not be retained on your line. As a Verizon Wireless customer you have choices when you upgrade at discounted pricing. You can choose from a standalone data package starting at $30 for 2GB or a Share Everything Plan. If keeping unlimited is important to you, you can choose to upgrade and pay full retail price for the phone.

Look at the bolded text. It appears to say that you can choose a tiered data plan without needing to switch to Share Everything. Being that this is Verizon's own website, I think this is official enough.

So in conclusion, if you want a subsidized upgrade, you WILL have to give up unlimited data. You DO NOT have to switch to Share Everything. You can keep the voice plan you currently have, but have to select a tiered data plan starting at $30 for 2GB. If you switch to Share Everything, then this will cause ALL of the lines in your family share to switch to Share Everything. This only applies to existing customers, as new customers will only have the Share Everything plan available to them.

Wow dude, read it VERY SLOW. I just got a phone UPGRADE on my UNLIMITED DATA account, " I bought the phone on eBay" went to a Verizon corporate store and had them put a Sim card in the phone and activate it, previous phone was an Incredible, my contract has expired and am on unlimited on a month to month payment plan, as long as I do NOT ADD A PHONE AT A VERIZON SUBSIDIZED PRICE, my plan will not change. How much clearer can I and Verizon be on this matter.

Anyone talked to a "clueless" rep when it comes to unlimited going away. Seems like most of the reps i've spoken with don't know what i'm talking about. Went to upgrade & pre-order the GS3 yesterday & the store wouldn't accept cash. WTF

Maybe I missed it, but did they tell you why they wouldn't except cash?

:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: I got you from now on. Troll time! Alright then, I just continue my best helping others with their different situations, and have fun with your current contract till your month to month contract begin in the future. Keep gunning for that mantra " Verizon is NOT, for the thousand time they are not forcing anyone of their current contracts, may it be a single user or family plan, once you do an UPGRADE AT SUBSIDIZED PRICE, only then will you be moved to the new TIERED DATA FAMILY PLAN, you can continue on a month to month payment plan after your current contract runs out and still remain on your current plan, for as long as they are going to offer it, now if you want a NEW PHONE AT SUBSIDIZED $, your old contract will be voided.
