[Updated] Verizon Plans To Eliminate 'Grandfathered' 3G Unlimited Data Plans

Lets say I sell my Bionic & iPhone via Ebay or craigslist then turn around and buy 2 of the same phone. Can I get those activated & keep unlimited? I honestly cant afford 2 phones @ retail price

Yes, you can get any "CDMA" phones that are designed for Verizon to be activated and keep your Unlimited data (dunno for how long tho). Don't take this retail price phone to heart. Take care your own good finance first. The point of the matter is that you can't any longer get phone @ Subsidized price which as we know it are varies in price range :p. You are not forced in any way to buy phone @ Verizon period (.) You may get special deal on never used phone for below the retail price for that matter. Just need to be Shop savvy I guess.

Wow, you must be new here, and you are wrong, do some reading up on this before posting false information.

Where and how do you know this? I am thinking this is exactly what verizon will do. At some point I will want to move my son off my plan onto his own but I am expecting that doing that will mean that he will lose his unlimited data and maybe I will too.

So they're going to add the retail cost of both my phones on a bill sometime soon?

If you got the phones at subsidized price, the full cost of the phone is spread out through your new two year contract agreement.

By moving or adding anyone on any plan voids your current contract and will automatically place you into a new contract, may it be shared or any other new plan Verizon is offering at such time the move is made.

On another note, we all know that unlimited will not be around forever, it could be nixed next year, or two years from now, no one really knows, only Verizon does, maybe they are not there yet at this time to make such decision, the shareholders will let them know.

Apparently Verizon is also changing their policy effective June 28th that if you do an AOL, you cannot keep unlimited data and have to switch to plans that are effective at the time of the AOL.

Now I am really confused because it seems that is what jseah said.

Not that the verizon rep knows for sure but when we called about this, she said that each phone has its own individual contact and that, even after the 28th, moving my son off my plan would not change his contract nor mine. But I absolutely do not believe her. I think as soon as we try to make that change, it will mean we will have to choose a shared data plan... which means that my sons are going to be stuck on my plan for life... Aaaghh!

"she said that each phone has its own individual contact and that, even after the 28th, moving my son off my plan would not change his contract nor mine." maaaannn you should've grab that chance! :rofl2: I smell lawsuit (huge hassle and pain I know. I rather avoid it) if they did something that wasn't meant in the paper. One thing I'm sure is that your plan won't change, but not sure about your son. This is why I said you should proceed further :p. All of that new agreements, they must make paperworks for it. After all that done, they give it to you to double check if you like it or fit to what you want. Once both parties agree, you need to sign that papers as to make it legitimate. This is sometimes what get some rep in trouble, and that's why some will say "Don't Quote me on it" dancedroid.

Or did you tell her that your contract carry 2 Unlimited Phones? That maybe her reason of why she said this.

I'm starting to get confused again. I thought if I added a line after the 28th, that it could have the tiered data and not switch me over to share everything. Is this true? After reading on here I'm not sure.

No, I think we pretty much know for certain that if you add a phone after the 28th that you will be forced to choose a shared family plan.

You are correct! Jseah was talking about Unlimited Data. A plan that since been gone a year ago. Under tiered data, you can also still get subsidized phone. Old users (contracts) are not forced to move nor get phased out of the available tiered data $30 for 2gb plan and so on. I said old contract, as even tho you are an old customer from old family contract, Verizon will either move you out to the new Share everything plan (after June 28) or get your own individual plan with tiered data (that seems unchanged so far).

That sucks then. I just got a Rezound, and the wife just got a razr, but we thought about adding another line down the road. I like my unlimited though.

You are wrong, Verizon is NOT, for the thousand time they are not forcing anyone of their current contracts, may it be a single user or family plan, once you do an UPGRADE AT SUBSIDIZED PRICE, only then will you be moved to the new TIERED DATA FAMILY PLAN, you can continue on a month to month payment plan after your current contract runs out and still remain on your current plan, for as long as they are going to offer it, now if you want a NEW PHONE AT SUBSIDIZED $, your old contract will be voided. This has been discussed in these forums at least a thousand times.

That other line will have to be on a separate plan, once you add another line to your current plan it automatically voids your current plan and throws you into the new plan structure that Verizon has in store for the foreseeable future.

I think you are confusing the whole issue. You need to know the question being asked that monkey man was answering before telling him he is wrong.

Clarification: After the 28th, if you buy a phone at a subsidized price, you will have to choose a shared family data plan.

Clarification: After the 28th, if you add another line to your family plan, then you will have to choose a shared family data plan.

Clarification: After the 28th, if you buy your phones at full price or get them from ebay, CL, etc then, so far, you can continue on your current plan and will not have to choose a shared family plan.

I think were the confusion comes in is with those on a family plan now with unlimited data.

For instance, I have 4 lines, all with unlimited data. The first line to be eligible for an upgrade will be in August. If I want to upgrade that line with a subsidised phone I understand that I will lose unlimited data on that line. The question is: What does that do to the OTHER lines on my plan? Can I have 1 line with tiered data and 3 with unlimited data on the same family plan?
