Log into the Verizon Wireless website and check your data usage. Download the My Verizon app and check there.

I just wonder....We already have data, if you're in an LTE area and activate an LTE phone would it require an actual plan change? Wouldn't it just start picking up the LTE signal?

I called asking about this, and basically the 3g and 4g plans are different in the system because you need a SIM card for 4g, but switching from one to the other doesn't affect your contract.

no there not... every day a new group of people become eligible for upgrades. At the rate their rolling out LTE everyone with a smartphone will want an LTE phone. They'll gain customers and the few people that say "I'll shop elsewhere, will realize that they're still not better coverage and service and stay anyway" It's an internet forum not even remotely close to the real world. Lots of talk and no action...

I *just* bought an unsubsidized Thunderbolt off Swappa. I get it on Thursday, and I'll have to take it into Verizon with the account holder and have them activate it onto the LTE network and have the system mark my data plan as 4G. My family typically holds onto devices for several years, so I'm hoping that we don't renew our contract, and I can hang onto the unlimited 4G. I honestly don't mind being behind in devices, and purchasing a slightly used one - I'd rather have the data.

I'm not really sure how much data I'm using every month, but I know it can get up there (never over 5GB, I don't think), as I flash ROMs and have to redownload stuff every time.

The boyfriend and I are eligible for discounted upgrades right now... so we're both talking about just getting the Thunderbolts. I don't like any of the others, and I figure, if I don't like the Tbolt, I can just go back to my DX, and sell it... until something better comes along, and then buy that as cheap as I can get it via whatever means. We don't want to worry about overages or anything.

So if I'm not due for an upgrade for a while...how can I get a 4g phone now to lock in my rates? Is there any way possible that I can get the phone subsidized, or will I have to pay retail for it? When I get it, do I just activate it with my phone number and I should be good to go and it will just start billing me for the 4G rates?

add a line for 9.99, activate an old (already owned) dumbphone on that line, use the new line upgrade for your currently used line, voila! new phone! (put the dumbphone in a desk drawer or in ur glove compartment. doesnt need data plan so just shares minutes with current line)

I don't work for verizon. But you are right. But it's a waste of money. Pay 9.99$ just to get 2 year pricing.

Before I had WiFi with all the romming I was doing I was using over 5gb a month. I just looked at my last 3 months... I was only using < 2Mb.

Wifi has saved me. I hope they allow something where you can pay less than $30 a month. Seems I don't kneed it like I thought I did.

Beyond that I think the current tiered pricing is a bit steep. $30 for 2GB is crazy. I pay like $40 a month for Uverse and use like 80+ Gig a month.

"Sir, that only affects NEW customers. Current customers with unlimited data will be able to continue with that until they change THE DATA portion of their plan. Upgrades of devices after the tiered plans go into effect will not effect you at all. You will continue with your current unlimited data plan"

I then asked......"why would anyone change the data package?" "it's $30 for 2 GB or currently you have $30 for unlimited? That doesn't make sense?" I was then told that there would be lesser data packages to choose from. Though, he could not go into any more detail due to his superior approaching.

SO. How trustworthy is this VZW employee? We will have to see

If you work in a brick and mortar vzw center... you dont know anything until days prior to them making the change. They make crazier more inaccurate claims than most people here.

Voice your anger towards the thousands of rooters who illegally tethered hundreds of thousands of GBs a month by running their home network through the Verizon data plan. Verizon didn't have to do this, but the incessant selfishness of the idiotic few completely forced their hands, and now we ALL have to pay for it.

So to you, the idiot abuser who streamed 200GB per month in data while using their phone as a router, PS3/XBox server, while downloading and uploading countless amounts of Torrents, I want to personally thank you for gouging our pockets in the future. You are awesome! Hope the Torrents of SpongeBob and the blazing speeds while playing Halo or Modern Warfare were totally worth it.

I do believe that tiered data will kill most interest in Netflix, as far as using the phone radios. No point, since two movies will breach 2gb.
