[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

Im in a transitional living situation atm. So I don't even have my pc running. However what I will do is compare my total data usage including netflix and home pc against the cost of a home phone line and dsl service vs a tiered plan.

Its like buying a hybrid car.. you just gotta do the math for how you are going to use it to see if its cost effective.

As I said earlier I saw this coming and I expected 10 per gig pricing, though I wish it would have been 5 per gig I am OK with 10 because compared to att its on par. For those complaining about the useage you have to see it from Vzw. If you gonna use their service as a primary source of data then they gonna charge on par to an ISP provider. I personally already had internet though my cable company and I just paid an extra 50 for a wireless router. That basically dropped my use even lower than my normal 2 gig range. And 10 per gig overage is not bad at all. I hear both sides but this is a business. If you don't like the rates get a home ISP or DSL and save and pay the extra when you on vacation. The loom and doom eh I see know need to panic. Now for Vzw I say you got what you want you basically put an end to people burning a hole through endless data, now stop messing with the phones and bring us our nexus device and leave people alone who use wifi tethering apps or pdanet. I paid for my 20-30 gigs if I want to be stupid and burn through 20 gigs in one day then you get to profit off my stupidity. Also to the people complaining about Netflix you know you can use that app over wifi and it works just as good and you are not burning cell data. Basically users need to pay attention about what's going on. And I am a power pandora listener and data user and I at Max hit 2-3 gigs so i am cool with the pricing. Rather it be cheaper but I can live with where it is at.

So if I'm not due for an upgrade for a while...how can I get a 4g phone now to lock in my rates? Is there any way possible that I can get the phone subsidized, or will I have to pay retail for it? When I get it, do I just activate it with my phone number and I should be good to go and it will just start billing me for the 4G rates?

Would we be able to circumvent this change by purchasing phones say via ebay and then activating the new phone at home without going into the store and simply rolling over our current plans?

Thanks in advance

very well put. I just checked my bills and realize that I'm not using more than .5 gb/month normally, so I'm a bit relieved. That being said though, it sucks having to actually monitor data now. I've had an upgrade burning a hole in my pocket that I may just pull the trigger on now to be grandfathered in.

I imagine the netflix and skype people will be a bit annoyed by this too

I was told that because I was already on an unlimited plan it would not change over to a tiered plan, even if I waited for my upgrade, or not upgrade at all, at the end of the year.

The biggest think that ticks me off about this is this: I purposely got unlimited "everything" on my family plan because I hate surprises. I want to know that my bill is going to be $X per month. I can appreciate that possibly prices may have to rise, but I don't want to have to worry about overage fees. Lame.

I did the same, have double the minutes and unlimited data so that there Are NO surprises, hopefully there will be some major grandfathering or great family plans it they want to keep my business. Cause I'll tell ya some of the offers out there look pretty good...

He's probably right. But let's not discuss that, it will destroy the paranoia and anger running rampant through the thread. ;)

add a line for 9.99, activate an old (already owned) dumbphone on that line, use the new line upgrade for your currently used line, voila! new phone! (put the dumbphone in a desk drawer or in ur glove compartment. doesnt need data plan so just shares minutes with current line)

[current vzw employees, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. dont wanna give incorrect advice]

Vzw corporate store & 611 - although a premium vzw retailer said I could only keep my unlimited data plan "if" I upgraded to the TB before my expiration date.

Come to think of it, can they force you to buy a data plan then, just because you want a phone capable of it?

I just wonder....We already have data, if you're in an LTE area and activate an LTE phone would it require an actual plan change? Wouldn't it just start picking up the LTE signal?

I'm still a bit skeptical. Haven't been following that closely, but what was first leaked was a family share plan. VZW has talked about buckets of data before, and AT&T has said they are going that direction. I just don't see VZW rolling this out, and then changing it again in 6 months. On top of that, they are still having some issues with LTE.

Anyone else notice how these rumors always crank up around, oh I don't know, the end of the quarter?

The way I see it, even if I were to lock-in unlimited data (which I hardly need), they'll get me when I want data for my tablet and it makes more sense to get a bucket plan, say 4gigs for all my devices combines.

Either that or they will throttle the heck out of unlimited plans after the basic 2gigs of data or whatever. I just don't see VZW continuing to turn a blind eye while people rack-up 10-20gigs. VZW is going to limit loyal customers that have been with them over a decade, some paying hundreds of dollars a month, while other people leech off the system (many of whom are marginally profitable and would leave over $5 a month)? I think that's a pipe dream.

im sorry

to be honest I saw this coming. But here is my take. Since I am on a tiered data plan then i should be able to use a wifi tethering app. I am paying for my data and I should not have to pay an extra 20 bucks to do it. So If i go tiered Ill get the 5gig plan and I will not feel guilty using a pdanet or wifi tethering because I am actually now paying for the data I am using and I should be able to use it how I want.

Ps: This is not a green light to start a back and forth bicker about the tos.

agreed 100% percent with this and go niners!! woot

ok here is the deal. the niners arent selling alot of tickets so i dont think they can win. i hear under the new collective bargaining agreement. its

30 billion for 2 wins
50 billion for 5 wins
100 billion for 10 wins
and if you acccidently win an extra game its 1 billion per extra win.

for 20 billion extra you can get 1 playoff win
but you will be shut off until next season if you attempt to go over that.

now of course you can be grandfatherd in to your previous record and continue it for your current price. but at 6 wins thats probably not an option.

Yeah, they force you to buy a data plan to use anything that qualifies as a smartphone.
