[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

Do you think it's a coincidence that those of us who purchased the original Droid on release day are eligible for New Any Two on July 8th?

I hope we're still grandfathered, and I wish they'd hurry and release some of their planned phones before July 7th.

how we package our data solutions
Did anyone else find this verbage funny? Like data is a PROBLEM, so they have to give us solutions...

I love how the letter drips with how much of a favor they are doing for the Verizon smartphone user. I'd truly be lost without them meddling, I mean, looking out for me...

I like this line "the vast majority of our customers will be able to enjoy their typical level of data consumption for the same value that they outlay today."

Our outlay is their value, not visa-versa.

To anyone who is royally peeved about this leaked announcement, don't voice your anger at Verizon.

Voice your anger towards the thousands of rooters who illegally tethered hundreds of thousands of GBs a month by running their home network through the Verizon data plan. Verizon didn't have to do this, but the incessant selfishness of the idiotic few completely forced their hands, and now we ALL have to pay for it.

So to you, the idiot abuser who streamed 200GB per month in data while using their phone as a router, PS3/XBox server, while downloading and uploading countless amounts of Torrents, I want to personally thank you for gouging our pockets in the future. You are awesome! Hope the Torrents of SpongeBob and the blazing speeds while playing Halo or Modern Warfare were totally worth it.

Its like a buffet. You can eat as much as you want, but you can only use 2 plates and you have to get a clean plate each time you get up.

They should have been more specific on their gay "unlimited" plans. As data gets cheaper and cheaper, they hike their prices in a huge way.

BTW, I don't use much data. I am sitting at 3.7 gigs and I have a week left. That's with downloading music, streaming Netflix and doing everything off my phone. I am going back to Sprint...

Well, that letter seems to confirm in my mind that something will be announced soon (meaning by the end of July).

As far as details, only one thing really matters: does this apply to every customer entering a new contract, or only new ones?

I'm definitely getting a 4G phone. As far as I can tell, access to higher data speeds will not cause me to consume more data in principle alone. The only impact will be that I'll probably watch "HQ" videos on youtube instead of SQ. So I will use more data on Youtube, but how much will that be? If I only use less than 1GB now, will it go past 2GB? I doubt it, so I guess I'll be okay.

Brandon *fingers crossed*

So with the tiered data plans coming out right around the same time the Bionic is "supposedly" coming out, I have an upgrade question. My upgrade date is on July 18th. Will I be able to upgrade to the Bionic from my D1 at the upgrade price without having to get a new tiered data plan or can i upgrade and grandfather in my unlimited family plan? Anything thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Background: Currently have a D1 and use anywhere from 1-4gb per month. Wife has a basic web phone and uses maybe 100 mb per month.

I'm not expecting any new phones until July 7th or later. I doubt they will make you downgrade to tiered data.

The simple answer is that nobody knows right now.

I would consider buying a phone outright and starting a new contract to lock in 4G for 2 years, but:

1) There isn't a phone I want to purchase yet and

2) There's no rock-solid guarantee that Verizon wouldn't try to weasel me into the new tiers (while giving me the option to break my contract).

OK, posts are about to start getting dumb on here again. Keep the discussion mature and don't play with language.

I know for a fact people that have a 3G or 4G plan WILL be grandfathered in. But When I go for a 4G phone in late 2012 I'll be bending over and paying out my a**! If they atleast offered 5GB for $30. I use roughly 2GB in a month just streaming internet radio and some live tv. 5GB is plenty for most.

As more and more people use tv on their phones and use their phones for everything their usage goes up. As their usage goes past 2GB, they are already paying more for their service then they did before. Who wins then... verizon does.

That's true, but unfortunately this is going to be a necessary evil. Do you remember all of the complaints about constant dropped calls and data on AT&T? That was due to a system incapable of supporting the amount traveling across the system. If left unchecked, the exact same thing would happen on Verizon. Under 3G it wasn't as much of a fear, especially since talk and data couldn't occur at the same time. That's changing with 4G. It sucks, but if something like this doesn't happen, get ready to look for crashing systems and dropped calls. That's the reality of the situation.

I don't watch alot of TV on my phone. Primarily internet radio. EVEN THAT is usually 64Kbps and under. When I do watch it's usually just live stuff. (Nascar races, etc.) I'm just hoping when I get a 4G device and even better when 4G comes to my area (2 years at last check) there will be better data plans or allow upgrade to 4g w/ unlimited data. I don't have a upgrade til Sept 2012 and my contract does not end til Jan 2013.

I asked this over in the Bionic forums but I guess here would be a better place. Can I get unlimited data now for my 3G feature phone and not have to switch to tiered when they new plans come out or would I have to get a new contract and new phone to keep unlimited after tiered data comes out?
