[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

to be honest I saw this coming. But here is my take. Since I am on a tiered data plan then i should be able to use a wifi tethering app. I am paying for my data and I should not have to pay an extra 20 bucks to do it. So If i go tiered Ill get the 5gig plan and I will not feel guilty using a pdanet or wifi tethering because I am actually now paying for the data I am using and I should be able to use it how I want.

Ps: This is not a green light to start a back and forth bicker about the tos.

@beardface-- i totally understand your aggression towards the tetherers that most likely ruined this for everyone, and i am by no means trying to start a feud with you, but do you think this is the only way? i mean come on, those prices are ridiculously inflated.. do you agree?

agreed 100% percent with this and go niners!! woot

Unless there is a family plan, where the family can buy 2GB for $30, everybody gets screwed. My wife uses less than 200MB a month and I have never used more than 600MB. If we can pay $30 for a shared 2GB then it is a big win for us. If we each have to pay $30 then we get no break at all and anyone who uses over 2GB a month has to pay more. I'm waiting to see the rumored family data plans, if they exist at all.

I think we all saw this coming to some degree. Still, $30 for 2GB of data... thats $15 per GB - why is the overage charge of $10 for every extra GB LESS than the amount in your plan? Isn't it usually the other way around?

Do you have to buy a 4g phone to get on a 4g "plan"? Meaning, could I just go buy a Thunderbolt, activate it, and get 4g service out of my current data plan with my Droid X?

I have never had to change plans just because I got a new phone. Even when Alltel became VZW in my area and I have since bought two Droids and a T-Bolt and am still on my old Alltel plan. Getting a new phone has always meant extending/renewing my current contract/plan, not having to change to a new one. Hopefully the same will still hold true. Conveniently my next upgrade is on July 7th so I guess I'll find out then

I highly doubt that the small amount of people that used that much data is the reason that verizon is going tiered. The reason is because they can make money off of it. If all the cell companies start doing it, then where can you go to get away from it? With that pricing and the ability of cloud computing.. there is absolutely no reason to think that people aren't going to go over every month or get a higher priced plan every month.

Right now 30$ < 6 Months Later 80$ a month because someone wanted to take advantage of the apps that the major companies are touting to use. Netflix, cloud documents, cloud music, pandora.. This is purely about money, the greed of the company. The company wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't going to make them money.

Looking at the grand scheme of things.....the reality as i see it.

This is NOT about the "tetherers". It's VZW making the mighty dollar. It's THEIR system and towers. The "amount of data" someone uses isn't crap to them. It doesn't cost Verizon no more weather i use 1GB or 20GB. Your monthly payment is all "capital gain" after employee salaries and system maintenaince

The biggest think that ticks me off about this is this: I purposely got unlimited "everything" on my family plan because I hate surprises. I want to know that my bill is going to be $X per month. I can appreciate that possibly prices may have to rise, but I don't want to have to worry about overage fees. Lame.

I'm almost 100% certain because it changes the way you look in the system. 4g has a sim card attached to your name for the LTE part of it. So i'm almost certain you have to have a 4g phone to have the 4g data part of it associated with your account. Though not 100%.

i get it and i understand, i agree this is mainly about verizon making money, and it always will be, i was just stating, i guess not clearly enough, that if that was the case, then there had to be a better way of compensating ..
