[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

If you think that is the case what would you speculate is the origin of this image?

fw7G4.jpg

I saw that earlier myself, and although off today, I called one of the managers at the store to find out if there had been more specific info given to us so as to have a better grasp on everything the tiered pricing entails, and the answer was 'no'...

Keep in mind as well that policy changes like this can change...two weeks before the launch of the iPhone in February, there were three changes in policy regarding whether or not it was to be insurable...I realize we are somewhat comparing apples and oranges, however the press release of the upcoming change could act as a trial balloon that allows the decision makers to make adjustments prior to July 7th should the feedback raise enough of a stink .

As for the image above, it could be real but neither myself or my colleagues have yet to see that in out intranet, but it could also be doctored/manufactured (I did notice that it said 'Indirect' on it, which is a reference to authorized dealers and not the corporate stores, and I cannot recall in the past the indirect agents having info such as this before ourselves in the corporate retail channel).

I hope that it's real... that would make many like myself feel better about the change, no doubt about it. TBV

I'm pretty shocked at the general attitude by people in this thread who are taking Verizon's side on this.

Our cell phone bills are outrageous. As I've said in other posts, my bill is 97 dollars a month and I have a 22% discount. I bought a feature-rich phone, that's why I pay the 30 dollar data charge. Why should I not expect to be able to use the features that are the reason why I have the phone, and that I already pay a charge for?

As other people have said, the text messenging is essentially free for the cell companies, yet they charge us 20 dollars a month for unlimited? It's laughable.

And what really cracks me up are the people who defend Verizon because they are a business and they are in it to make a profit, that they aren't here to make the world a better place when they probably live in rate-capped energy markets.

Please. Going to a tiered pricing plan is a scumbag move, no question. And don't think people won't leave, because they will. If i'm forced to pay more for my service (this is pretty much my max, 100 bucks a month), I'm going to another company, no question. I just refuse to pay more, and I'll deal with the worse service.

OK, so it says exisiting customers can keep there current pricing, even when upgrading, etc.?

I currently have the DX, will I be able to upgrade to a 4G phone and still keep my unlimited data plan? Or is that only if I upgrade to another 3G phone? How does this work. I'm pretty sure if I buy the SG2 when it comes out or a similar 4G phone that VZW will make me pay for the 4G tier pricing? I'm confused on all this.

Anyone clear this up for me? Thanks...

Whatever you have for data today, should be the same two, four or six years from now. As long as you don't cancel your current account, and there is no difference in price for 3G or 4G.

You people may hate Verizon, but it's not like they are crack dealers.

I imagine you are another person who is stating their opinion without reading any of the previous pages of this thread. So I'll excuse your misguided though deserved opinion.

3 weeks into my billing, I've used 0.033 GB of data. Why do I care if they limit me to 2 gb, I don't even use 1?

We're all happy for you, but your opinion matters little to us since we're the ones who are going to get screwed by this deal. Yes, I realize there's a chance we'll be grandfathered in even with an upgrade. More of what I've been reading seems to indicate that won't be the case than that it will. I'll be happy as a clam if I can upgrade to a bionic and keep unlimited data, I just very much doubt at this point that it's going to happen.

There's no reason to argue over it when the announcement isn't official yet. Why don't we wait for it before we get our bananas in the bowl?

And where will they leave to? Their only option is Sprint. AT&T is tiered, T-Mobile, while still offering unlimited, throttles you down to 100 kbps once you hit thresholds that can be as low as 100 MB, depending on the price point you are paying.

And sprint will go tiered too. What then? Sell your phone and become amish because you think you deserve unlimited data?

And how much of your data usage is WiFi versus the cellular network? I pretty much check weather, email, download the occasional free app of the day from the Amazon Appstore, and check the news and I average between 750 MB to 1 GB per month. Although I don't "take advantage" of unlimited data, I like not having to worry about making sure I am using WiFi.

Good point, I don't have any idea of course. But 0.033 is nothing. Double that and you probably have what I really use.

My opinion I'm entitled to, just like the person I quoted is entitled to his. I feel for the people who stream music, I understand that for them this is not good news. But as I have said (in previous posts) this isn't being done to punish anyone. It's being done because of 4G and they need to manage the amount of data that's being used. With more people buying smart phones, using 4G, they will have to provide more data then ever before. If the system gets overloaded, nobody gets data period. They have to contain it somehow.

Again, these are MOBILE devices, not a replacement for your ISP. If you want to use it that way, you SHOULD be paying upwards of $80.

Also, these plans aren't so bad. Included tethering might have been nice, but for $20 you get 2 more gigs that includes tether - same price as just plain old 2 more gigs.

I think VZW is a bit stingy only giving us 2gigs, but you have to consider they are protecting several revenue sources. Family plans, for one, will see significant savings (and VZW would lose too much money if the individual plan was 5gigs, but they could have worked around that with extra line/device charges).

Plus, if you have a tablet you actually make out if you add the 2gigs of tether - 2gigs for $20 is much better than the old tablet plans (but still pretty lousy).

I also take issue with $10 per extra gig. IMO, VZW shouldn't charge much over their marginal costs, which is probably closer to $5 per gig. (although, theoretically it could maybe be as much as $8/gig). - I'm basing this on carrier access fees to the cable companies of about $3.50 per user, the average user eating about 500megs of data.

Why does everyone assume people with 4g are going to use more data its the same amount of data just at a faster speed .Example iI used 2gb a month with my D1 and i still use 2gb with my TB . I dont lookj at more stuff orstream more music than normal i just get it faster.

If I upgrade to a 4G device/plan before then can I keep my 30 unlimited and not be tiered? Running an unlimited DX @$30

Um...just like he doesnt speak for everyone, I really dont think you do either. When you say 'us', 'us' dont use our phones the same way.

If you notice he said why do I care if they limit me.

I am in the same boat as hook. I used between 100MB - 500MB in the last 6 months. Now I did just sign up for Netflix and was suprised how it worked over 3G. But even still, the only time I can even do that is on the ride home to and from work or days when I'm out running the streets, which isnt alot.

So for me too, why should I care if they limit me to 2GB? 5GB for me could be seen as unlimited..
