[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

I've gotta agree with Squires. I'm looking heavily at purchasing my phones outright from now on as much as possible as well. Sell the old ones to defray some of the cost. In many cases, you'll be surprised how close to the contract price of a new phone you can get when you sell your old to defray the full cost of new. This won't always work, but it's better than getting hung up in contract periods.

Exactly. If you upgrade every year, your phone will still be pretty current and there are tons of people that will pay top dollar to get a phone out of contract. They can pay $300 for yours, or get a slightly newer one for $500+.

If they buy yours, they don't have to have a contract and they save some money, and that cash basically makes your full retail price go down to what the contract price would be.

Hope you and the wife can make it to the party on Sunday! Allison loaned me her GoPro, so we should have some good videos from the race track. I can mount it to my gas tank and it should work great.

I planned on that too till I saw the bionic might cost $799 outright

Don't put any faith in rumored costs. Wait till they are released. Rumored prices are typically all over the board. About the only prices you can actually make plans around are the iPhone prices, as Apple is very specific with those.

Going to try but think we are going to have to head out to Oconee to see her parents. If we don't make it, we'd love to meet up with y'all for dinner in the next week or so. Somewhere up your way.

I spoke to a verizon rep and even the grandfathered customers won't have unlimited data a few months down the road from now

I highly doubt that rep knew what they were talking about. We have all seen two different internal documents from Verizon stating that current unlimited data plans from smartphone users will NOT have to go to the new tiered structure when upgrading to 3G/4G phones. Even if that "grandfathering" ends after their next contract cycle, that is still 2 full years of unlimited data. If they only grandfather people in for "a few months" and then pull the bait-and-switch tactic, I would be highly surprised, and they would lose significantly more customers than they are now.

The regulatory fee is just a "because we can" fee. It should technically be illegal. But lobbyists in Washington keep the things the same day in day out.

I can understand charging extra for tethering when on the unlimited plan but having a tethering fee when they are charging for data use on a tiered data plan is completely bogus for me.

34 pages of this? I'm gonna wait for an official announcement before freaking out. I hear so many different things. I called VZW and they told me I will not lose my unlimited data and to just relax. I mean who the frick knows?

I actually talked to a verizon rep this morning and confirmed that this information is all correct.
