Verizon announces HTC Thunderbolt with March 17th release date

I can't seem to figure out what type of charger the HTC thunderbolt will have? From the pictures it looks like the OG Droid's charger might work? Can anyone confirm this?

I'm very strongly considering an HTC Thunderbolt. Assuming it doesn't have the WiFi problems that my OG Droid does (can't keep wifi reliably) and that 4G has been in my area since December, I'm going to do this. 8GB of internal memory sounds too good to be true. :)
It charges via microUSB, I think.

Thunderbolt takes a Micro-USB charging/sync cable. Same as most of the newer Android phones and Blackberries.

My only worry about a single core phone is that if I'm going to sign a 2 year contract you can bet that dual core OS and app optimization will happen long before I'm due for an upgrade. That means you'll have to watch all of the dual-core owners have fun for several months (possibly even a year) before you can upgrade your hardware to see what you're missing. This looks soooo juicy though.

Can't resist... hand... reaching... *ugh*... for wallet...

...body...too strong... *ugh*...mind...is weak...

But that's just it. This isn't new for a technology to be moving from single to multi-core. OS support and app support ramp up very slowly because the masses will still be on single core devices. Even now everything on a PC only needs a single core or a dual-core. Most Quad and Hexa cores are completely under utilized on the consumer level. This is why I haven't built a new desktop PC. My Q9450 @ 3.2GHz is more then fast enough for everything I throw at it right now. Even new games can't really hurt it as they don't fully utilize the CPU either.

That is why I have no issues with upgrading from my Droid to the Thunderbolt. Multi-core devices will only be starting to hit their stride by the time the TB contract is up. Plus after seeing the extreme ass beating Tegra 2 took compared to the PowerVR chip in the iPad 2 I'm not exactly high on Tegra 2 anymore.

Don't forget the class 4 32GB SD card that comes with it, for a total of 40GB out of the box.

Does anyone know if there will be demos available before Thursday now that an official release date is out there.

Also does anybody see there being supply issues, I will be there first thing Thursday morning but i don't want to show up to a line a mile long for this phone.

Sounds like you have questions for your local VZW store manager. I know there is a Demo "app" for display purposes, perhaps as soon as today in-store?

It seems there could be supply issues, since they aren't letting us pre-order it.

yeat it seems like most all android phone launches have supply issues. Evo, droid, incredible, dx, i dont think I can name one major handset that didnt have the same issue.

Dang! Now I'm really ticked off. With the Bolt coming out, these TB release date threads are going away. They were the best entertainment I've seen in a long time. Maybe I'll have to watch the Bionic release date threads now.
Sweet that TBs here. I want to see some real world experience for a week or two before pulling the trigger. I hope the battery life issue is resolved with the release.
