Verizon begins sending customers early upgrade promotions

I just switched from my BB storm to my Droid 1 on july 5th, and I got one of these in the mail yesterday. It basically tells me that I can upgrade to the Incredible, or X at the discounted price. I havent even had my droid for 30 day yet so I found that funny.

It also had my wifes phone, that isnt eligible until Feb of 2011, as able to upgrade.

I Might have to consider getting the X now.... I love the sbility to customize of my droid tho. Its a tough decision.

I just don't get this. I've been a loyal customer of VZW for 11 years, and I've had my Droid since November, and our lines aren't eligible. :(

I guess I should add that I work for a large Banks corporate office, and although my phone is not for work, I get a discount because Verizon gives it to all of our employees. They are one of our corporate clients. Maybe thats why they gave me the early upgrade? I don't really know.

I'm going to call Verizon and pretend that I got one of these. I want to get a Droid X in hopes that the headphone jack is STABLE (Ie: does NOT cut in and out and start up that stupid ass party mode with the slightest touch of the jack while you have headphones in). I could care less about the Droid X's features, if that is fixed, I am happy.
lol you will care once you start playin around on the X lol the thing rocks !!!

I was offered an early upgrade to any smartphone for all 5 of my family plan's lines. I took the deal on my 8 month old Droid 1's line and I am now typing this on my new DROIDX that arrived in the mail today. I could not believe the deal myself, but obviously it worked. Happy upgrading everyone!

Just tried again, and was denied. For the record, I evidently got routed to the Alabama call center.

Also tried upgrading online, and no luck there either, even tried chatting w/ customer service, and they directed me to call 611.

Well hey hey... I'm a new Eris user since May 2010 and I just received an upgrade notice by email of what you have described here. I was excited at first but I do not wish to pay the $199.99 2 year contract price. Now if they were to shave off $50 or more, well, I may think about it. But I know that won't happen! Aaaand I got my Eris for $30. Hey who's got their hand in my pocket!

Got an email back (24hrs later...) from a different rep saying yeah I get a sweet early discount, however I cannot do it in the store or online. It must be over the phone or through email (email? Seriously?).

Guess I'll order over the phone tonight. Wonder if stocks are still low, I know the stores won't get any until Aug 6th...

I got my DX on release day for $218 without having to extend my contract or anything and I've only been with Verizon since this past January when I got my Droid1. My annual upgrade date is still in January and I still get my $400 of deposit back in January.

Customer Service > In-store reps

Tips for haggling? I'm terrible on the phone, plus I don't know what kinds of deals they are capable of. $200 for the DX right now doesn't seem like a bad deal (email said I'd get the 2yr pricing).

Got bored on the way home from work and decided to call to see what they would say to me about an early upgrade...
My current 2yr contract is up (my new every two date) 7/21/11...

Rep said no, not eligible for an early upgrade.

But, he said when I am in my 13th month of my contract (8/21/10), I can call back and pay $20 for an early upgrade and receive 1 or 2 year upgrade pricing.

Anyone ever heard this? I never knew that..

Not that I am a big fan of paying them extra money to "allow" me to give them more money for a new phone, but it is nice I guess if the newest and greatest phone came out and I just couldn't wait...

Im getting a Droid X for $199.99 after $100.00 MiR. I just called customer support and they said I can upgrade one of my lines to the Droid X. I just don't want to wait until August 4th for it to be shipped. Oh well I can't wait I hope every one who tries this out gets it to work. dancedroid

called back for my 4th time this evening and finally got someone on the phone that was cool and allowed me to get the early upgrade for my wifes phone, since we were at the 20 month mark or something like that since shes had the phone for 4 months he said she would use the upgrade, AND not only that he said since her phone is still under warranty he said to call tech support and have them send her a newer devour and than put it on ebay he was mad cool, much nicer than everyone else i dealt with.

Plus FYI... if you look at droid-life.com right now there is a video thats being sent around to peoples phones and the number is different than the main customer service number, has anyone tried that number yet? the one posted at the end of the video on droid-lifes page???

and ironically i called the verizon customer service number and thats the guy that was finally able to help me not the *611 people, either i was lucky and got someone that was smart or the number dialed made the difference.
