verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

" That'll be pushing aweful close to my self-imposed February deadline. "

I have to agree with Sam here. A line must be drawn and I will be sticking to that deadline.

Noticed that the VZW corp contact thread has disappeared. Guess we aren't officially allowed to post that.

Haha. I was banned from Motorola support forums. I thought was doing rather well staying tactful. Next time I'll just say what I really want to say. Anywho, Samurai's plan doesn't look to bad. Might go that route too and just sell the bionic.

Lol, score! The official moto forums are pretty much useless tho, as we all know, unless you're looking to ask how to add a widget to your home screen or something else dumb along those lines! Haha

I know the idea of taking your bionic to Verizon with a leaked update has been frowned upon here. But instead of lying or hiding the fact of what I did to my phone, I told them straight up. I walked into the store and I put my name in to get in line for service. Once my turn I was helped by this girl and I explained to her that I could not update my phone because I installed an unofficially leaked update from Motorola. Because the version I have will not allow the current official OTA to install. I even showed her the kernel information on the phone and told her it is different than a stock phone. She didn't say much except she would try to see if she could get the update to install. I told her good luck getting it to work and I walked around the store until she called me back. At that point I wasn't sure if she had some special equipment to get the kernel back to stock or maybe she just didn't understand what I was talking about. After 15 minutes I went back to the counter and she told me it didn't work. She told me to give her a few more minutes and she would try another way to install it. She soon failed again and she told me that she would get me another phone. So I have one being shipped to me.

I'm can say if this would work for anyone. Maybe I was at the right Verizon store at the right time. I made sure to explain the truth of the matter to the verizon employee.
 
Yea, I've been told to try that by several people and see what happens. I have no problem with that as long as you're up front and honest about the fact that you screwed up, did something you weren't supposed to, and are looking for mercy to rectify your mistake. That's something I may try next week. I'm not keen on them having to give me a new phone cause I did something idiotic. I mean, as long as your honest about it I don't see the harm if that's what they decide to do for you. But, I still don't feel jazzed about that.

As for my "plan", yea, I mean if I can't get the phone upgrade situation resolved by then I'm not going to end up stuck on this version forever. I'm not recommending that solution to anyone else, but, don't blame anyone for going that route. I think I'd be happier with an unlockable phone. Honestly? I simply wish the Bionic was unlockable. I *LOVE* this phone. I REALLY do. But, I screw with things too much and I'd be afraid that even if I do get it fixed I'd be impulsive once the ICS leaks hit. And you KNOW they will....
 
I think if mine would of not had severe data drops in the first place I would not off bothered to install any leaked updates, anytime I would go into any fringe areas the data would be completely useless, and I just wanted it to work. I would even get drops if I just drove across town, some spots it would work one day, the next day I'm fighting the thing to get the data working again. However, my bionic broke on me two days ago, I could not get it to power on, and the Motorola screen would just flash if I plugged it into the charger, when the replacement showed up I did install this 901 update, and the phone works how it should, and if it continues to do this, then I can be a bit more patient and wait for official updates, its just when the phone is just not working, I cannot quite live and tolerate that.

It has been done. P3Droid is working on a script to make this all painless. I'd hang out til he gets that done. I'm upgrading to 5.5.893 as we speak and am nervous as hell given all the trouble I've had in the past 2 days. Here's hoping!
 
901 doesn't take us off the update path though right? my phone is perfect after 901 update.
